THEY TOOK MY SUGGESTION, LET ME CRY.
They're mixed of a Flourish, Callahan, and Shard Bombs.
It has a two shot combo. Before shooting you do one step forward and shot a shard. it explodes on impact.
The charge fires a rain of i think seven bullets, while you are flung backwards, just like those shocking shards from the tortodrones which explodes after a while.
Got one. It shoots shard projectiles on the charge, and is the great thing of all time. Its normal attack is like a cross between winmillion and final flourish.
Questions, from a an excited gunner:
- Is it a mobile weapon (can you turn+walk while shooting?) or does it force you to a movement like Callahan?
- Does it have an explosion radius (ex: callahan)?
- Does it have an explosion at the end of the shot? (Ex: can it kill grass )
- Range? Normal shots... similar to Alchemer (short), Callahan (medium), or Valiance (long)?
It's silly and I should really just go ahead and make one to answer my own questions, but I'm pretty hyped about this because I thought the shield was a gun at first, and now there's an actual gun XP
I'll complete my Vash cosplay with this, bwaaahahha
-----
Part of me wants the piercing for novelty the normal for looks (will probably be perfect with the rest of my red costume), and the elemental for PVP, because LOL @ shadow defense kids.
question:
what material does it need to craft? adamant shells?
it is created from scratch or it upgraded from something?
also, does it have invincitinks on charge?
@Ragnarok
Needs the pld Ancient Shells.
Needed are:
normal: Blaster
elemental: Prismatech Alchemer
shadow: Shadowtech Lachemer
piercing: Autogun
EDIT: Just got the 4*. So far it doesn't appear to be any different than the 3*.
@Seiran
I only have the 3*, but-
Not mobile. Think callahan crossed with winmillion. You'd need to surprise enemies, but it seems to deal enough damage to make it worth it. Again, unheated 3* in T1, so I don't know about that. The charge is even less mobile (think blitz crossed with callahan), but is very ranged and has a very large spread.
The explosions on the charge have a radius, the projectile on the normal doesn't seem to. The projectile shards are like shard bomb shards, but more akin to what the tortodrone shoots. It could kill grass with the first jab though? The range on the normal hits is decent. The range on the charge is about 3ish tiles, and scatters over a distance. It does get stopped by walls etc.
charge shards seem to damage on landing, but hang around on the ground for a while longer - mobs do not seem to be able to pass through them??
normal range shot seems shorter than any other gun, not sure.
melee attack seems to be weaker than shot but has some knockdown? Might make a practical mecha fighting gun..
releasing a charge and immediately recharging seems to function like a sword not gun - so a single attack between charges.
They have 4 different damage numbers.
Normal strike: Melee + Range.
Charge: Blast + "Walk over"
I'll have try and get the wiki damage table ready for the 5* once mine is done heating.
I wonder how the gun's attack animations are effected by invincibility frames. If it's like the hammer dash that's in that you take all of the damage during it, that's unfortunate.
I'm sad I just recently got off my lazy butt and made a new 5* torto shield from scratch using my shells. More grinding Ahoy.
- Does it have enough damage to warrant using?
- How does it compare DPS-wise to other guns?
- How well does it perform in Lockdown?
- Seiran's questions
Thanks =)
Go try; we're all as new to it as you are.
Judging by my 3* variant, I'd say it's not suited as a primary weapon. If anything, it's an interesting side arm for swordies as it closes ranges a bit. Useful if you get something just out of range. You switch to it and you can hit even then.
As for LD, I wouldn't use it as striker. As guardian or recon, I feel like it could be more relevant. Honestly, I think I'd love it as guardian but the problem is that it's so slow. You're gonna need some serious ASI on it, or you'll probably get screwed over every time you try to hit anything because even if you hit, you may risk getting punished.
Glad OOO finally went with the "shoot into the air and land" charge attack idea, it actually makes me wanna get into this update now. I feel like it will be a good and sudden surprise for those hordes of...um, devilites (the piercing one)
Those with Maskeraith can fire twice the amount of shards from the charge attack with the Cloak and charge technique.
Happy charging :x
"releasing a charge and immediately recharging seems to function like a sword not gun - so a single attack between charges."
This can be nullified by shielding after the charge, then shield-charging the next volley.
"Those with Maskeraith can fire twice the amount of shards from the charge attack with the Cloak and charge technique."
This works with Drakon's Frenzied Firestorm as well.
I got the 4 star Normal Version. Mighty Cannon I believe it is called. I'll work on getting to 5 star later but for now I just want to say a few things about it.
The damage seems pretty decent. I wouldn't put it up as number one greatest one hit killing machine in universe, but it's good enough to use. It functions uniquely as well.
For anyone wondering exactly what it does:
It has a two shot clip. Both shots root you in place but push you forward. Think of it as a Callahan Cutter. They do not have very long range. And the shots are not that fast either. Also, firing at point blank range will cause some melee damage. Making this a four hit handgun at close range. The damage values of the ranged bullet and melee strike vary, but I'm not sure by exactly how much or if the melee strikes are effected by gun bonuses or sword bonuses.
I should point out that the mobility is AMAZING. While reloading, charging, or recovering from your last shot, you run at full speed.
Where it really shines is the charge attack. It's not the most powerful, but it is very safe, effective, useful, and so fun to use. Like I said, charging has you running at full speed instead of slowing you down. The charge time is fairly long but not too bad. The charge fires multiple shards into the air. Like a mix between the Torto and the Shard Bomb shards. They land a long range away from where you fired, making up for the lousy range of the normal combo. The shards will stay where they land for a while, blinking and causing damage to any monster that walks onto it, before exploding.
The shards are, sadly, effected by inviciticks... this hurts it quite a bit. So don't be surprised if the damage doesn't rack up as fast as it looks like it should be doing.
Overall, a very cool weapon. Has many ups and plenty of downs to counteract them. If you are willing to get the shells, go for it. If you don't think the weapon is worth it, then don't get it. I myself love these things. It has replaced my Iron Slug for my Ironmight set.
Speaking of which, I should point out that this gun seems to be quite useful with defensive armors. You can equip defending armor and these guns, then just hang wayyy back and charge spam. This will help cause some damage while also keeping you out of range. If something gets close, your armor will keep you alive for longer. Then again, spamming charges with Chaos works too...
So the 4* version is different than the 3* version? Can anyone demonstrate a vid with the 4* or 5* versions?
I like how these new guns have the movement speed during charge/reload that was teased on the test server. But the main gun redux hasn't come out yet.
Still, very exciting stuff.
Looks to be magnus line damage from the visual tooltip stat bars.
I have a feeling that the elemental charge could be very good in FSC, especially with a vortex bomb in that small room of 5-zombie waves (as long as the shards aren't too spread out)
Since OOO defied the use of the handgun and implemented both sword and bomb to it, I smell like the old shard bomb mechanic is approaching when the torto bombs release in one of the future torto events...
The only thing that I havent checked yet is the shard decay time.
Everything else seems identical (except damage) between 3*, 4* and 5*.
So I just got the Grand Tortofist a little while ago, and I thought I'd let you guys know it doesn't seem to be any different from 4* beyond obviously doing more damage down the road.
Still a 2-stroke, 4-hit normal combo. Charge still fires 6 shards. Shards still disappear after 10 blinks (~5 seconds). Shards are still shot the same distance. Shards don't inflict shock (not that any of you thought it would; this was my own theory since 3* and 4* had identical behavior).
Overview of changes:
The functional behavior of these bombs will change significantly, while still remaining in the spirit of the bomb line. Currently, shard-style bombs create a series of bullets on detonation, effectively acting like a handgun attack in multiple directions.
...
Reason for the changes:
The current shard-style bombs are functionally, not very bomb-like. They are the standouts in the system we’ve tried to build whereby: guns fire bullets, bombs create areas of damage, and swords do a mix of the two.

After two years, the shard bombs still suck...[After all, the whole bomber "class" still suck] Congratulations OOO now go and fuck yourself.
I'm starting to think that this gun's role is to be a bomb+sword that relies on gun stats. So like, I could bring my seerus+nameless combo, and then use it alongside my other handguns and I would have far less sword/bomb related issues.
I'm loving the new mechanics and all.
But it's the winshardbombillion. Not sure if it should be classified as a gun.
Why are invinciticks even a thing with this? it works differently from shard bombs.
If shard bombs did the same thing as these shards, would they be good? AOE damage while planted?
If sudaruska had these shards, would the charge be even better? And more amazing?
Is it right to format a post in questions?
I have the 3* piercing version, thanks to dibsville... they're awesome, go give them things...
It's pretty funny hitting things and then shooting them in the face. I'm farming tier 1 fiends for glyphs, and the combo of a single hit is enough to kill them on depth one... it's rather amusing to watch...
The shards are really good against greavers... you can fire them and stand in them and the greaver will fly right into them, stopping it's attack - if you don't hit them with the initial shard landing thing and cause invincitinks raelly early on...
Invincitinks are killing this charge right now. I don't understand why it exists, monsters don't walk over them that often. Simply lower the damage of the shard damage ticks and get rid of invincifirames.
I'm starting to think that invinciframes are an issue with the game programming itself, surely no developer would put something as silly as that in intentionally...
Also, this is kind of annoying
Edit: @Parasthesia you missed out the iron slug in that name
Someone doesn't know how to be a bomber...
These new weapons seem to be a good side-arm, for anyone really. The normal attack can be used to hit switches, break blocks and bushes and crystals and stone blocks quickly, and detonate explosive blocks quickly and safely. As a bonus, the damage is pretty decent, too.
They are also super fun to use! The movement on all the attacks makes it exciting, the sound effects are satisfying, the charge attack looks amazing. Edit: the 360-spin-while-moving-backwards always happens.
10/10 for this, OOO. This gun-sword-bomb thing is probably my favourite weapon of this game.
Side-note: are you going to give the spur line it's movement on the first swing back, considering thiese new weapons do?
Its like a hybrid of Callahan and Flourish. You thrust forward and shoot a spike, I currently have the Wild Buster (3* Pierce).
I see this as something you would use as a sidearm rather than a primary weapon. I like the melee punch, and the spike it shoots through its main selling point - as I see it - is the charge attack. It serves well to spam it one after another (CTR helps) because you get a nice and unique sweeping once the opposing mobs are down to a sliver of health. Though one thing to keep in mind is the noticable recoil of it - I find it useful because I used this in tandem with my Brandish (5*).
You use the charge attack with Brandish, then another charge attack with the Tortofist at point blank range. Recoil retreats you back and I like it. Its good for getting out of places, assuming you got room to back off.
I've yet to get my hands on the 5* versions (I am actually on my way to getting all the Special damage ones, 23 Shells as we speak), so I can't say much though the stats for a fully heated one - yeah. Really lethal.
On a sidenote: I notice my movement speed isn't toned down like the other guns I am using. Something that was pointed out when I read the threads on the Gun Patch's test server, kinda neat to be able to do this. Real easy to using the charge as a retreating tactic.
Which do you guys think benefits the new weapons more? Asi or ctr?
Edit: Or is it like w/ drivers, based on personal preference?
Absolutely AMAZING. I think I just found my new partner! Got the 3* elemental handgun.
I gotta say, I don't care about the invisitinks. Fire up another batch of shards and you're as good as fresh. Great for large crowds, and what else...?
THE F&#&ng best part which I LOVE ABOUT THIS is that you can just quickly charge, and RIGHT when you shoot your shards into the air you can shield and run away. Absolutely no delay whatsoever, and you run as fast as you do normally. First time I loved no I mean drooled over OOO's updates! =)
Notice that dodgey mobs will still try to dodge the charge. (imagine that the charge releases an invisible shot that marks where the shards will spawn)
ASI vs. CTR is probably going to be decided by what mobs you fight, so for the pierce version ASI will probably be more valuable - I believe reserving ctr autoguns for needles will still be a safe bet. The opposite might be true for blasters?
GH training values for the 5* savage tortofist. Since most people are wondering.
I also added the blitz values in T3 area for comparison.
New 5* piercing gun. That is all.
Just came back to say Torto-switching is one of the greatest things to be introduced for gunslingers. I wouldn't say it's optimal, but it's pretty damn fun.
Suppose, for the sake of argument, that I have most of the other guns. Which of these new guns should I pick? Which one fills a badly vacant niche? Piercing?
Suppose, for the sake of argument, that I have most of the other guns. Which of these new guns should I pick? Which one fills a badly vacant niche? Piercing?
I'll throw out my thoughts here, since I'm trying to figure this out too.
- Normal: Powerhouse normal gun? But arguably Neutralizer's there... It IS more powerful than Iron Slug though. Can't hurt (you) too badly to have this as a choice. I made it cause it looks cool lol.
- Piercing: We have Callahan and Blitz as heavy piercing weapons. I was hoping we'd get a mobile piercing gun, but this isn't it. It does (with charge), create one of the (arguably) multi-enemy piercing weapons (blitz does spike damage on few enemies, and Callahan currently doesn't do a good job of hitting multiple enemies due to its weird splash and slow charge). Arguably, the enemies weak to piercing are exactly the kind that can get interrupted by this gun's normal attacks too...
- Elemental: Well, we have a ton of elemental guns in the form of Alchemers. Nova driver does the no-status powerhouse role already, but we don't have an immobile elemental weapon yet. As for enemies, there's a good affinity between the undead/mechanical monster behaviors and the gun's mechanics (they group up a lot).
- Shadow: Strangely enough (despite having a lot less use in T3 thanks to FSC being mostly elemental-weak), a lot of the gun's jobs are already done by Umbra/Biohazard. But again, it has novelty in being a heavy shadow weapon.
IDK, I'm really leaning towards piercing, but I hate the fact that all the piercing guns are fairly immobile. Though if you think about how this gun is a preview of gunner update mechanics (charge-based, no walk speed penalty on reload/charge), its charge is pretty mobile....
After getting it to level 10 on the first day, I will say Callahan feels so fast to use now, haha.
So yeah, having written that, I'm leaning towards piercing brobopp.
@Bopp
This gun is strange.
I would classify the normal shot as not even a gun. As most have pointed out - its closest relative is winmillion with the range aspect hitting harder. It would be better to compare this part with swords (of which we only have a normal 4*).
I would classify the charge as a gun with heavy damage crowd control. We currently do not have any non-normal/pierce crowd control guns (autogun line).
To fill holes in current existing equip, element/shadow would be the best pick (in my opinion).
In terms of usefulness, I'm enjoying a pierce weapon that devilites and wolvers do not attempt to dodge (I could be wrong, but the charge doesnt seem to trigger devilite dodging. Can anyone else confirm?).
awwwwwwwwww
I want one. but right now I'm locked out. dammit.
from what I've seen it seems a good all around gun, depending on the usability of that normal shot. that two shot clip seems a bit restricting but I'll have to test that out once tortodrones come back again.
I skimmed over some of the posts, so forgive me if there is an answer already: how about range? it seems a bit short, although the lunge makes it a little better. does the melee attack hit only once? how about knockback?
aww crap I did too many questions at once. I gotta test that out ASAP. darn clock.
(preemtive answer: I have a laptop clock problem, nothing serious.)
I went with piercing. The existing guns arent great for crowd control. And I literally just crafted obsidian carbine days ago so I've had enough shadow guns for now.
Callahan is too slow and tricky, as mentioned earlier. Blitz needle is pretty crappy uncharged or at range, and multiple enemies.
My question:
If you're standing behind some destructable blocks, will the shot go to the far side without destroying them? Can think of lots of useful tactics with that.
Also dropping the charge shot onto Vanaduke to bypass his little glowing orbs might be useful...if in fact that's what happens.
From my understanding, the Charge is either glitched or it's intentional:
The Shards seem to follow a general hidden line much like any other gun but there seems to be a problem with it... Rather than hitting the target where they are, it hits around the model, making sure that it doesn't land directly on top of the target, which makes the charge a bit less powerful than it should be. I personally think this needs to be fixed but again, I don't know if it's intentional or not.
As for the above questions, it will remain on your side. Despite being launched from the air, it still follows the normal rules of a gun.
However, it does bypass Vanaduke's Fire.
@Glacies
My guess is it is intentional.
When I first tried the charge, i thought awesome.
My second thought was "lets see if i can break any game mechanics with it".
Long story short: they designed it to not bypass solid objects.
Mechanics wise... That means it can hit things like the shivermist mist can. It also has the ability to go over gaps, like pretty much every gun. It does not bypass monsters, though (example: walled on a corner by greavers = the shards pretty much all hit the front greaver).
Also - related to the main topic. Anyone who has one... shield bump monsters into the charge attack. It is hilarious.
Grand Tortofist: normal
Savage Tortofist: piercing
Omega Tortofist: elemental
Gorgofist: shadow
No statuses. Speed bar is comparable to alchemers. That's all I know.
Edit: I also know that they look cool. I want rotating gun-claws.
