You are correct in that one can do Google searches tailored to the SK forums by typing "site:http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node" in with other search terms. This limits the results of your other terms to ONLY the SK forums. Using Google in this way is free and can be a little helpful, but most people do not realize there are huge flaws that will skip good results AND provide bad results! Everyone should understand that before they use Google to search!
Allow me to illustrate why Google doesn't work as well as many believe.
Problem #1: Useless results outside of the Bazaar
Searching "(wts OR sale OR sell OR selling) chaos fire max site:http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/" gives you 336 results. "WTS chaos fire max site:http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/" gives you 85 results.
How many of those pages are in the Bazaar? How many are people selling the item? How many are people just talking talking about the item?
You will receive a large number of useless results. Slogging through those results can take a lot of time and pain.
Problem #3: Google is out of date and missing pages. Always.
Search engines only store data on the pages that they actually find and read. They need to crawl the entirety of our SK forums to find the text on every page. According to Google's Cache, my forum store hasn't been indexed since last month and Google does not have a full index of our forum.
If you use Google you're not searching every page--you're searching the pages Google has bothered to index.
If you use Google you're not searching the current pages. If someone posted that item you want in the past few months Google won't know.
My final opinion is that the Google search, while free and somewhat helpful, is still a huge time-waster. People must be aware of the problems inherent with Google searches before they use them. They should understand that they are not getting a full or accurate result list, not for UV'd gear (which can have varied verbiage) nor for accessories!
=======================================================
As an aside:
I feel that by changing the title of your own forum store, instead of posting something in the General subforum that you may be making a dig at me and my SK Bazaar forum search service. :D
I made my own search engine that addresses these concerns--I wanted to find all of the REAL results buried in our forums without the frustration and wasted time!
A few months ago I realized it could help others and made it available via my store.
1. My forum search only hits threads from the Bazaar. Nowhere else.
2. My forum search goes line by line in the website's code. It doesn't matter how someone names the item. If those words are all found on the same line of text I will find it!
3. My forum search is updated before every search request. If you pay me to find something you get current results!
EDIT: Updated verbiage and numbers
Hello! Thank you for the large advertisement post on my thread. In response, I hope you don't mind if I link to my thread on your shop either~
You are very right in a few aspects:
There are a few things you fail to mention though!
I will soon be investigating how to create a more efficient SK search engine/index [than Google] as a part of my CS course, and I will be sure to release anything I make to the public as well~
Every business owner is expected to feel threatened when there is a possibility of a sizable amount of lost customers, and for this, I apologize. My intent of sharing this information was to help the community utilize free tools and possibly learn something and have fun on the way! I am not promising miracles with my methods. I've already had multiple messages sent to me in-game about how easy it is to use this and how much they appreciate me posting it. Cheers~
#1 Search Methods
Hey there Ches, Luna. I took the time to read both of your threads, and I've got to say it was pretty interesting. I'd just like to give my two cents (because I lost my third cent last week) on both methods from my own personal experience. Do note when it comes down to spending money (especially mine), I tend to try every possible action I have before turning to anything that costs me. Enough about that though, I'll simply cut to the chase.
When I met Ches I was offered that service which I kindly refused at first to search for it myself. I was looking for a Dusky Scarf (using Luna's method) via Google for my first costume quite a few months ago. Of course I found my results for Dusky Scarfs, and regardless of how dated they were I messaged every player selling the item. The ones that didn't respond weren't in-game anymore, and the ones that did lacked the item. So I took it upon myself to save the nodes of my past searches, and I gave Ches a try. Of course the nodes were saved so I didn't go through the same threads again.
Ches got paid, and I got my results. Crossing out the nodes I already had, I was surprised at the amount I missed out. For me this is a big deal, because I'm exceptionally thorough with anything I want. Messaging the posters of the threads I didn't find, out of a majority only ''one'' had the Dusky Scarf I wanted for that costume. From my experience Ches's searches are more accurate, regardless of if it costs money or not I still got what I wanted. I believe like the second Dusky Scarf I'm currently looking for, if I did not use Ches's method, I'd still be in search of that first one months later. Though I fully agree Luna's method is free, from my experience it is not as accurate. It's fully encouraged people try a free search first (obviously because it's common sense), and then try Ches's method if you're still in search and can't find what you need. I used Luna's ''exact'' method of searching myself.
This is all I have to say regarding that.

#2 Business Conduct
No offense (you're my buddy and all Ches), but when I read both your threads, you two are looking pretty bad right now. I definitely understand if Luna poses a threat to Ches's business, but I do not believe it was the right move to post in Luna's thread regarding the subject matter at hand. Regardless of how one chooses to look at it, if someone has a business similar to yours and they advertise it on their thread, then that's perfectly fine as long as they're not calling names . I'm not sure if Luna had Ches's name in their original post before or after Ches made a post there or not, but if that wasn't the case.. Ches you shouldn't have. It's like if McDonald's said they had the best chicken, and suddenly Colonel Sanders barges in their front door and stated why his tastes better. It's unprofessional. However, if Luna had Ches's thread linked to the original post ''before'', then it's understandable.
In all honesty Luna, it wasn't necessary for you to post in the opposition's thread if your service is free. Fine, Ches stepped into your turf, but going into theirs simply because of that was an immature reaction. It literally looks like if you did it out of spite. I'm not saying you did, but it looks that way. Honestly, you posted in Ches's thread right away instead of kindly asking for the removal of the post in private. This is what they call a ''they ate my cupcake, now I'll eat theirs'' scenario. Or rather ''tit for tat''. If you both wish to represent yourselves in a more conductive manner, you should both just remove any links/statements to each other's separate markets and let the public decide themselves. Measuring carrot sticks (worse yet directly) is even worse.
My goal here isn't to help. I'm just one dude. I simply felt to point some things out. If neither of you are competing there's no need to have anything related to one another in either thread. I'll remove mine, if situation calls for.
I'm not trying to escalate anything so I haven't made a comment (even though I'd been considering it). I figured the two of you are more than capable of sorting this out yourselves in a civil manner. Though after Kazangen's comment, particularly in regards to your conduct, I feel the need to say that when I first read this thread, the way it was worded immediately made me think of Chesh.
"I was recently shocked to see how many players are willing to pay to search the bazaar forums for items with how easy it is to do on Google. All you have to do is type this one line in to your search bar, and bang! Tons of results!"
To me it seemed a little impolite in it's wording, even though I'm sure that was not the intent. The way it's worded implies that people are paying someone to do a google search (or some other equivalent) for them when they could easily do it for free with the same results, and it does reference Chesh's service in a way. Vanilla and Slice's comments don't help clear up that assumption. So it's not unreasonable for Chesh to make the effort to clear things up.
Like Kazangen, I'll remove my comment if necessary.
Just like any business, I try to get users to use my methods instead of others- upselling, if you like to look at it that way. Google does provide lots of results, and just as Chesh had failed to mention there are free alternatives, I failed to comment on their reliability.
@Lady-Deathstroke
Vanilla and Slice sniffed out what I believe anyone could as well- Google searches using tags and modifiers pose a threat to Chesh's service. There's no doubt about that- if it didn't, I wouldn't be sitting here typing this. Chesh is well-known, most likely a friend of yours as well. People are fast to overlook wording on a certain side because of this bias- this extends to social groups such as cliques, clubs, fraternities, sports, or even politics. Especially politics. Blunders from your own group may be overlooked while those from another are amplified or misconstrued. I mean this in no offense, just as I meant my original post in no offense.
I am very skeptic about the claims that the same information posted in a separate thread or forum wouldn't garner the attention this has.
One reason why I believe this has flared up is explained very nicely in your post Kazangen (thank you for taking the time to write that up):
"I'm not sure if Luna had Ches's name in their original post before or after Ches made a post there or not, but if that wasn't the case.. Ches you shouldn't have. It's like if McDonald's said they had the best chicken, and suddenly Colonel Sanders barges in their front door and stated why his tastes better. It's unprofessional. However, if Luna had Ches's thread linked to the original post ''before'', then it's understandable."
My original post made absolutely no references to Chesh's thread. I had planned from the start to keep my distance so something like this wouldn't happen, but here we are. I had never posted on Chesh's thread before, never hopped in to turn someone away from her service, or anything else of the sort- and I had no intention of ever having to do it. I couldn't sit back and let her not only step in my turf, but also shame me in her own though. Turning everyone away from my methods right off the bat tempts the consumer to get rid of their autonomy, and withholding the information erases it altogether.
And here we have reached the point where Colonel Sanders hasn't taken his flyers off McDonald's wall like suggested, but has instead updated them with calorie information and details of how McDonald's chicken is inferior and has posted these same flyers in his own restaurant. The restaurant business sure is hard.
