Gunner Update Patch stops Steam users from starting SK [Resolved]

Steam patches just fine to grab all the new files.
When the game goes to restart, no window is started.
No window ever appears.
Steam's build ID is 461948.
The first validation had about 600 game files that failed.
The second one had 2 that failed.
Launching the game through command line as a standalone [how I would normally access my alt] successfully logs in.
Something pushed to steam for the launcher options is incorrect.
RESOLVED
Solution Post. Steam wasn't sending the correct version and was causing an update-loop.

Since there isnt a crash log from the game crashing, the best I could do is open up the launcher log.
Parameters being shown other than resource locations are as follows:
-Dcom.threerings.getdown=true
-Xmx256M
-XX:+AggressiveOpts
-XX:SoftRefLRUPolicyMSPerMB=10
-Dorg.lwjgl.util.NoChecks=true
-Dsun.java2d.d3d=false
-Xmx512M
com.threerings.projectx.client.ProjectXApp
I will note that Xmx is used 2 times and the second one appears to be new and might be messing with the first?

A friend and myself both have this exact problem.

Same problem here.
Game was successfully updated (using Steam) and when I launched the game using Steam,
no window appeared. When i opened task manager, i noticed javaw.exe's memory usage
rose to 88000K (or sometimes 99000K) and is just stuck there. It's not going up or down.

I'm getting a similar issue.
These are the last few lines of launcher.log:

I'm using 64bit Windows 8. Every time I validate game files after trying to run the game, I get two files which do not clear and have to be re-downloaded. I was able to run the game right before the update, and Spiral Knight's patcher did run and download stuff. Then Steam thought it had to download a patch. I didn't let it download the patch at first, though, and the game still didn't run. (Then I tried to download the patch, but I'm still getting the same issue.)
I'm getting the same problem. Also on windows 8 64 bit.
Says that it is in use. have restarted cpu and it says the same. have exited steam. same error. any help would be nice

Just edited out the Xmx commands and that isnt the problem, testing other commands now.

same problem here, game patched, says in-game, but window never appears, even when I uninstalled and reinstalled.

As a bit of a techie myself, I've performed all the basic fixes (updates, java, verifying integrity of game cache, etc.) and nothing fixes it. I think this might be a job for you guys, OOO.
Fear not, fellow Steam users, you are not alone.

This issue appears to be affecting all Steam users. I've enccountered none who are able to log in through Steam. Something of interest is that the java process is still started, and stops after amounting to about 300k-400k KB RAM used.

Kinda happy it isn't just a select few here. Hopefully a patch by OOO doesn't take as long to come out as the update itself did.

Java parameters arent the problem as I just changes them to my standalone client and they the window still doesnt appear.

Same here, tried the usual and it's not launching. Process takes up to 128Mb RAM and just hangs there...

I'm having the same problem.
000: Here is your long awaited gunners update, go crazy!
Mob: GhudsadfkSJGHkdfshjafjnsdhgukjsbjfgbfskjsdv Omg we gotta log on quick.
*Most steam clients fail to open*
Mob:* goes back to hating on 000 *
Yeah.....
Thanks for the update 000, I guess this issue happened cause we rushed you so much:P
Sorry!
Oh well, back to bae Robocraft.

Lasersheild: They probably just failed to test SK in Steam or something.

Wait. I think I see it... will need to test.
"/" is being used instead of "\" in some of the file paths.
Edit: Nope.

Game will not launch, tried restarting multiple times, even re-installing the game files.
Hopefully it's a patch.. such a long wait though

Just came back to SK after about 1 and a half year to find myself unable to start the game :) GG

My non-steam friend just told me that their hotfix for this problem will go live in
90 minutes.
Just as a heads up.

Copying over from said friend:
Java's throwing a warning and since it's probably run in strict mode, it will cancel the window launch?
JAVA: WARNING WindowsPreferences.: Could not open/create prefs root node Software\JavaSoft\Prefs at root 0x80000002. Windows RegCreateKeyEx(...) returned error code 5.
Same here, java appears in task manager but the game won't start. Tried re-downloading, flushing steam configs etc, disabling overlay, changing SK's java version...

I don't even bother tell a bit after as stuff like this tends to happen with huge updates.. They allready have a fix from what patch notes says so.. give them some time.

Waited 2 years for that update, guess we can wait 90 minutes.

At least i can learn for my physics exam now without getting distracted by SK.
Good job, OOO. (not a joke)

@Egalitus
Ironically, I have a Physics midterm today. The only reason I'm posting this is because I'm home schooled and can take 3 minute brakes to post. (Besides, I need to divert myself from Canterbury Tales sometimes or else my focus lapses...ugh, so wordy.)
Also, less than 60 minutes remaining.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm updating right now! 1 more hour of downloading :D

Well it updated. Now I'm getting "Failed to connect to the server."
e: Scratch that, working now. :)
e: And now Steam says there's an update waiting. Maybe it'll break everything again. :v

Just got in game. Looks like everything's back up and running.
Okay are they going to fix this for all of us or not? Some people can get in but some of us are having the SAME EXACT problem before and after the patch and "hotfix" patch.

Patch didnt fix mine either. I'll be checking back in a couple hours or maybe even tomorrow.

I got nothing either... I wonder what they changed?
Same problem as everyone else... I am getting a pop-up: "An update for Spiral Knights is available. Would you like to launch it now, or download the update first?"
Launching it now yields the same "app is already running" message.. Downloading it sets up a window with a load bar all the way full and 'zero seconds remaining until it is open' message.
Disappointed, especially since I haven't played the last two days because of finals.

Mine doesn't launch either. Only correlation between the steam players which I know and this doesn't work for is that they're all Windows 8.1 users and I kind of doubt that the OS version would matter that greatly in running a game but then again... it's java and it's spiral knights...
From what I have read, there is not a lot of problems with Windows 8 and SK, just a lot of people blaming it for the sake of having a thing to blame. I use 8 and seem to be having the same problem as others.
Java can be a nightmare, though.

I'm in windows 7 and same here for me which is irritating me

If you're getting "app is already running" you have to open task manager and kill the java process. Don't know if that will fix everything though.

Thats not the issue.. its not even showing a window..

if you mean best update as in "Most Annoying to those of us on Steam who now CAN'T EVEN PLAY THE GAME" then yea.. its the best one.. Now I might change my rather harsh comments on this if they Fix the steam client version.. as this current hotfix didn't fix it at all
Well, now it did something different; It actually appeared to download the update, and went through that process. Then automatically opened the half-page SK window where it downloads the update again, then reverted back to its difficult self saying "App is already running" when no window is present. It does this on the second attempt to open; the first attempt nothing appears to happen. (Except i think it starts the Java process that it thinks is the game)
The screen is maximized, it's in a much larger picture for some players with smaller monitors....
