Out of curiosity, does anybody know who of the OOO team implemented the game with the "Auto-Aim" option and the reason for the feature?
Auto-Aim Feature
Just curious, why do you care about who programmed the feature of Auto Target? What is it going to prove? Are you going to harass them? Because that's just silly, but very likely.
Idk who made it, but I assume it's for people who use keyboard only or a gamepad.
Not everyone uses a mouse when aiming.
@Whimsicality
No, I won't harass them. Certainly someone who put a great deal of their time into the game. I am just curious what the features use was, that's all. :P
@Traevelliath
Yeh, that makes a lot of sense, Traevelliath.
Being forced to aim in only 8 cardinal directions for keyboard only users is a bit of a pain. Moreso with guns than with swords, but... Mouse users love to abuse it anyways, despite, you know, having the full 360 degree spectrum to work with! Nothing you can do about that, though.
idk why this game even mentions that you can use keyboard controls. It should be left buried in the options menu and mouse should be marketed as the default control style with optional controller usage, since it's so much better than keyboard.
Yes, discourage a control scheme just because it's conveniently not the one you use. After all, this thing is acceptable, right?
The auto aim feature was made to auto-aim at enemy easier
The fact that the hit will always target the closest target also helps the netcode to register the hit since it's being helped by it's own algorithm (auto-aim and hit detections)
Auto-aim exist in many worlds, even subliminal in many of them. Most fps have auto-aim feature on consoles to help stabilize on a focus point, because most of the time, casual player would miss the target. It is similar in others games such as Zelda (and Spiral Knights for that matter) to have control over WHEN they activate the auto-aim feature (z-locks for zelda, your auto-aim button on SK)
For people to be butthurt about this mechanics is childish, ludacris and show the lack of knowledge in developping field from the SK community. That ain't new.... It is an interesting and common thing in every, single, video game... go play golden eye 007 on 64, auto aim is there
Edit: And I still can't believe people are still talking about AT-AA, you need to go to AAAA, the anti-auto-aim anonymous and get some help... geezus
So what if you get hit by a Uberha3er claiming he's god tier. The game was designed with 13+ in mind. And making a handicap for them to stop harassing each other will be fair.
The above backfired :)

You don't need a fancy gaming dpi switching mouse to play. You can just buy a cheap office one for 10$ or something.
If you want an example of a game where aim actually matters, here's a vid of Osu
I don't really see any excuse for not having 360 degree aim.
You can do PvE just fine with a trackpad (I use a mac with a trackpad, and I can do PvE just fine, which means other people can too). And really, buying a $10 mouse isn't that much of a hassle, and shouldn't be the deciding factor for playing a game. Basically, Laptop users have a trackpad or mouse, desktop users have a mouse. AKA tools to give 360 degree aim.
If you want to be able to play competitively on other people's level, then you could get yourself a mouse as well. I don't get what Whimsy is whining about so much either, its not that hard to obtain these tools. Use what you have, or upgrade. Unless there exists a barrier that prevents people from buying a cheap mouse?
I play on a macbook pro, and use a $15 laser mouse from logitech. Not exactly a gaming setup.
the real question is, who enabled it for LD? and why?
probable cause is that console games historically used aim correction for consoles
I used it to find out what the monster names were.
Then I used bombs and the AA feature was useless.
the real question is, who enabled it for LD? and why?
NO, you got it all wrong. The questionS at hand are: Who the hell care? (apparently you) Why does it matter to you? Why does it feel like you got emasculated when you got beaten by someone, who you THINK uses the AA, over the internet, on a F2P, kid mini-game, inside your game? Are you THAT bad at life that you feel this is your holy grail and that anybody who takes this away from you must suffer the raging tantrum of an angry kid?? (probably)
- Every AA discussion ever
Edit: Oh yeah you got beaten down. Lag spikes happens to everybody, stop crying like a baby and face defeat like a man and stand up after getting beaten down. Go play LoL with 8000 ms ping then come back and talk to be that AA gives an advantage to someone... the problem with LD is more about net-code than anything else, but kids are too busy crying over nothing than crying at the proper thing

Eh, I'm sure what you're all upset about. The OP was not demeaning at all. The dude clearly just wondered what the original point of AA was. His question has been answered.
Case closed, it's for people who use the keyboard as opposed to the mouse.
It's mainly for people using laptop touchpads, gamepads or people who hate trying to aim with the ridiculously fat cursor this game has.
It's like the accessibility feature of a smartphone, it can help, but do you really need it?
