Hey guys, I did some testing on the 3* SS since we couldn't find any data floating around either in the forums or in the wiki about how many times it dealt a status with its charge.
Out of 50 charges in one session, it inflicted a status about 5 times. Out of another 50 in another session, it did about 7, so that's about an 11 out of those 100 charges to inflict a random status; with what data I currently have (I'll attempt to do some more tests to refine this number). That brings us to roughly a 10% chance those charges will deal a random status (1/10 charges). As well, the AoE does not affect all of the enemies within it, each enemy has its own roll value as to whether they become affected or not. As far as I've been able to use the weapon, I've used it as an opening attack then switch-cancel into another weapon to deal damage, and it's been a hit-and-miss in my experience.
Some questions I'd like to ask y'all:
1. Would you guys consider this percentage to be viable in later Tiers?
2. Would you think it would have any use in team fights or solo runs?
3. Would you think it could benefit from a small percentage buff? Why/Why not?
I'm not an expert on Sun Shards. I passed through it to get the 4-star version about 3.5 years ago. Then when the bombs were changed I upgraded to Scintillating Sun Shards, which I never used much.
According to the wiki, Sun Shards doesn't do any status. So that's something we should fix. What does the in-game information say? Slight chance? You might try searching Google to find threads about status chances. I recall that we have data sets about how often they inflict.
It's great that you've collected data :). But it would be even better if your data were exact and reliable, instead of stuff like "about 7", which you add to 5 to get 11. Try taking a video capture that you can review later. That tactic helps you measure delicate phenomena.
As far as the general viability of these weapons go, try searching Google for threads about shard bombs. When they were changed there was a huge uproar and lots of discussion. The general consensus is that they are weak and the ticks are buggy. In that sense they should be buffed.
