This is pretty exciting stuff. Seems there isn't any Steam overlay though which is unfortunate. But possibility of having more friends to ply with is awesome.
So how about linking your existing SK account to Steam? Seems you can only log in via Sega Pass or Facebook. I don't mind starting again with my Steam account but alas, the usual account limits per computer thing OOO has going on.

Been playing the Steam
Been playing the Steam version because there's a TF2 hat to unlock from SK. Damn you, OOO.
SK has full steam voice integration though, which is really nice. Well, nice with friends, not with 8 year olds who don't know that their mic is on. Might drop using mumble if I can link my existing account...

Also, since this is my first post in this thread it is obligatory for me to complain about being able to merge accounts not being sorted beforehand.
They should have done it beforehand.
Now that that is out of the way, I'd like to say I'm looking forward to having it integrated into steam. It'll make it easier for me to convince other friends to play since they've been stubborn thus far (Even the die hard MacHall/TPS fans :o )

Problem solved. Though I was going to say it really wasn't that big deal for me since we've all got unfair advantages over the steam people
I mean not only did we have the advantages of starting earlier (lower prices and such) but we've had our own shots at exclusive things, beta players got the groundbreaker stuff, main players got the shot at Rose Regalia, things those steamers can never get (well maybe RR). So for Steamers to get their own thing, I wasn't going to complain, but nice to see we still get to take more stuff for ourselves :D

machallboyd, you are right, that comment got a lot of confusion. I might even recommend Nick edit the post to say "There is only a mask." As silly as it sounds, it being on the top of the next page puts it completely out of context.
I for one welcome our new, steamy overlords. Voice chat, hopefully overlay chat with other Steam friends eventually, all that jazz.
I do hope the eventual account merge will be friendly to those that manage multiple paid accounts. Three characters is not enough, and then there's the ME issue...

I've never had any use for Steam. Which just makes this Event Mask even more lame to me. I mean it IS cool, and I DO want it. But because I don't have any games on Steam I can't add any friends and therefore can't do a thing to get this. And what's worse, any game on Steam I might want, I already have. >.< So this is what I get for spending $80 to help OOO out. A cool event helm comes out and I have no hope of ever getting it. Thanks OOO.

Heck, you could probably start a thread where you all help each other "farm" for the hat by inviting each other. A little coalition, a little club. Not a guild, just an agreement to invite each other. That is, if you wait a week for them to bind the accounts together.
Sorry you never got into Steam. I love it, and its early days of being a buggy mess are behind it. So many uses for Steam, what would I do without you... I really like that little valve on the event helm. Oh, you guys.

We have the same join date, so naturally that'd mean we've played close to the same amount of time.
I am aware that there is a game that I can download outside of Steam.
The new hat caught my attention and I wanted to see it in-game, but apparently my region does not support Spiral Knights. Not only does that mean my main account is excluded, but that the entire island of Taiwan is excluded from this promotion.
I understand that there will be a fix for the promotion to combine Steam and normal accounts, but unless if Spiral Knights is released in my area, I will never be able to enjoy the benefits of it. As you can probably see, that concerns me and I'd like to know if something will be done about it.

I'm curious as to what other games are region-locked over Steam. Is this a widespread problem? I know my German friend was able to play an American version of Left 4 Dead via gifting (so that the blood was uncensored, though it DID autodetect the German language settings); is it possible that maybe someone can "buy" Spiral Knights for free and then gift it to you?
Haha, I'm not sure if I should feel really happy that you partenered with steam (because that's awesome) or feel betrayed that we can't link our current accounts. I guess I'll go with happy and hope you are able to work on the linking accounts issue. This should get a whole new gaming community for spiral knights (and steam if we are later able to link are accounts).
I also personally love how the new mask looks, I have always been a fan of the gask mask look for characters.
So thanks OOO for an awesome decision on partnership choice and please work hard to benefit older players with this as well.
