Spiral Knights Discord server - an open place for IRC-style chat and voice chat

First off, what's Discord?
It's a voice and text chat service, much like Mumble and Teamspeak. It's a bit different though. Unlike traditional voice chat services, there's no tie between text channels and voice channels here. You're effectively in every text channel at the same time, quite like WhatsApp, IRC, or texting. You can also be connected to the server without being connected to a voice channel.
Another wonderful aspect of Discord is that it's very accessible, with native clients on Windows and Mac (Linux version in development), apps for Android and iOS, as well as a web app that runs in your browser.
Intent of the server
There's a lot of cool people around Spiral Knights. Especially so around the forums. Sadly, forums aren't really the best way to get to know each other and have casual conversation. With this server, we have a great, open platform for casual conversation, more fast paced discussions and sharing top-notch cat .gifs.
Having voice channels adds the very nice benefit of also being able to get together for games without having to get a server of your own for Mumble, Teamspeak, or similar while also avoiding the UI/UX disaster that is Skype.
Anyone is free to join, partake in discussion, and use the voice channels as long they follow the rules!

So there's a Bopp who joined already, but left instantly. Maybe you could tell us whether you were that Bopp or someone intended to troll? Just poke me the next time you're on and I can give you membership status anyhow. You should make sure to be logged in with a verified account for that.
Edit: actually nevermind that. I've removed the membership system because it didn't really add much. You'll just have to come on and convince us ;)

We have a total of 54 users and currently 12 online, that's a pretty decent number for a new channel in a small community if you ask me!

With the small size of the community a chat room like this is quite a nice addition. I'd highly encourage everyone to join in, as there isn't anything happening on the forums themselves. We can probably "sticky" this thread via these small bumps/posts, since there's only ever like 5 threads made per week anyway.
Keep in mind that voice chat is completely unnecessary as well.

I stopped by the group on the first day of its existence and soon left. Maybe I'll visit again.
The problem is that I don't want to spend hours chatting actively about Spiral Knights. I need to get some things done in real life. Asynchronous, occasional discussion, like what happens in a forum, is roughly how much time I have to give.

We aren't necessarily always talking about Spiral Knights. Granted, it's a topic we fall back on a lot, but you get to have fun chats with lots of various people. I've been talking about a fanfic I'm writing lately and Fezzy here's been working on a little game of their own that's coming along really nicely.

I get things done irl all the time while on the discord. Most of the conversations have been about random stuff that has nothing to do with Spiral Knights, largely because the only conversation left to have is when the game servers are going down and whether we can get Monomi Parks to develop SK instead of SEGA Networks. I mean you know, since Monomi Parks made the game to begin with.
But really you have the wrong idea of what the discord/text chatrooms are about in general. You don't go there to focus on and talk about something continuously (unless you want to and others are willing), but to just sort of hang out and have some background conversation.

I'd rather not link who I am on here to who I am on the discord. It's fine that you know who I am there, but there shouldn't be any sort of official link, as these are official forums and official Spiral Knights and official Steam forums but community made non-GM-moderated discord.

We've introduced a couple of bots to the server!
One of them is a music bot. It's hosted from my PC and isn't always online. When it is it'll play anything from YouTube, SoundCloud, etc. The fallback playlist includes the top ~500 OverClocked ReMix songs, the SK soundtrack, the Jempire Story soundtrack, and the Metroid Prime 1 and 2 soundtracks.
The other bot is RoboNitori. The feature I'm most excited about is RSS feeds. She's currently set up to repost anything from the Steam announcements and SK twitter to a channel called #dev-feed. We've also got #community-feed, which mirrors the SK subreddit, new topics in General Discussion, as well as any other RSS feeds I choose to add. Right now I've added Miabot's tumblr, Adventure is Delicious, Spiral Spy, Pocket Knights, and ReddehWow's blog. If you have any suggestions on cool SK blogs to add, I'm all ears. Self promotion is cool, too. You don't even need to be active in the discord, it just needs to an SK blog (or any other kind of RSS feed). Bear in mind that various blog platforms such as WordPress can filter your RSS feed by category, so some blogs that aren't exclusively SK could work out, too.

It sounds nice to join something like this with a currently very small community (hopefully it'll grow with the acquisition by Grey Havens) so I'm tempted to join. Although, to all of the current posters on this thread... I've never talked with or interacted with before in game (except maybe Fangel a long long freaking time ago during a shadow lair). Eeeeeeh, maybe I'll give it a try.

Just press the first link in the OP. If you are logged in to discord on your browser, it will have a button to accept invite. Otherwise you will have to log into discord first

I left the discord because the owner is biased towards a handful of people, the mods make me switch channels to talk, they don't consider slurs against trans people real slurs and they're slow to act when something real goes down. Definitely wouldn't bother joining at this point, the only reason it's still around is because people find it through the subreddit and stuff.

We've grown a heck of a lot since we started. We're over 2,000 members at this point from all stages in the game. We're always welcoming more!
@Fehzor, I set aside all personal relationships with people when moderating the Discord server, however I will take into account personal history if it's relevant to the issue. Since you haven't come to me specifically about these issues in DM (which I highly encourage, I take DMs from all server members), I wouldn't have any particular knowledge on the matter. As such, I'd be happy to address them here.
1) We ask that channels stay "on-topic" as best as possible. If you're talking about your grandma's cooking in the chat designated for talking about Spiral Knights, then it's probably not the right channel, even if talking about Spiral Knights got you onto that topic. We only ask for this due to the fact that someone who wants to ask or talk about something Spiral Knights related can do so in the right area without interrupting the other conversation.
2) We do not condone any form of bigotry on our server, but have historically preferred a hands-off approach. When someone uses targeted offensive language, should a moderator be active or pinged, we'll be more than happy to address it. If you don't see action taken, you're free to bring it up to us individually. You should already be aware of this, however, as I have had to speak with you individually on this in the past.
3) All of us are running this server as volunteers and out of love for the game. While we do try to cover different timezones, there may not be a moderator watching every chat at every second. The mod team has only relatively recently expanded to have a more active crew on-board, however seeing as all of us do have lives outside the server and are running this purely out of passion for the game and its community (not money), issues may take some time to address, especially if no-one pings a moderator (which, usually they do).
That being said, we do have a lot of expansions made to the server since the original posting. We have trade and help channels, promote Spiral Knights livestreamers, run community events, and more! We also try to stay on top of Spiral Knights news, so usually you can get notified about something happening in the game within 24 hours of it being mentioned(and we do occasionally announce things that aren't properly announced on forums, such as slime casinos or lockdown rule changes).

There's a lot that I could say but the forums on the whole wouldn't let me so I'll cut it short-
The only positive thing I was getting out of the Discord was news of when the server updated and the supply depot sale changed. On the flip side, nothing was done about harassment and the moderators on the discord did nothing to censor certain slurs. I shouldn't have to go and talk to you because you should be able to notice them and make improvements yourself.
So I left and friended the people that posted the news. Now, I can get my SK news/spoilers without intrusive questions and slurs. How nice.

Honestly, I'll have to agree with what he said. I've been in the arcade for a bit of time and I noticed that the moderation on the server isn't exactly the best. Or, well, not at all. Especially I noticed one of the mods that kind of caused the issue only to get worse? And then post inflammatory comments, kind of breaking the rules themselves? I dunno what kind of moderation this is, but i'd consider it pretty embarrasing.
As for the rest, I noticed that one of the mods is actually doing their job and the other just seem they're mods becuase they're "popular" or whatever. You should give that one a freakin' raise or something and just remove the rest.
Plus I did hear that people very vocally wanted changes with the stupid "boosting" or whatever but apprently the server owner is too stubborn to consider what others would want and is more "their" server than "their" server.
I otherwise left already, like I posted anything there anyway.
I'd also like to tell anyone joining to join if you want, but just be beware of that mod who flames others though.
