Pretty simple idea. As it stands right now we can exchange tokens for materials, right? That was much more important in the past when materials were harder to get, but now they're extremely abundant, killing the purpose of really buying materials with tokens.
However, sometimes players will be mass crafting items and need loads of materials, and even then the token system isn't much of a help.
My solution is to have a shady gremlin merchant hiding in the arcade or subtowns. This gremlin would take any item that can be bought with tokens (most 2*-5* materials, a number of trinkets, etc) and would give players half their token cost in return. If you are in need of a warp dust for example, you could trade in two rocky cores and then trade your 10 new primal sparks for a warp dust.
This could also work with other items, such as sealed swords giving 10 jelly gems, but that might not be too necessary. Regardless, the main idea is "exchange items for tokens".
Tokens are pretty useless after you have bought two of every trinket at every gear level. Something else to do with them might be good.
Alternate idea: Have event vendors (Bulky, etc) accept regular tokens as well.
But I do like the idea of having more "secret finds" hidden in the arcade. :D
