Mercurial Movement Boost
How much of a boost IS "low"?
Is it able to be noticed with just one piece?
Can you out-run T3 rocket puppy missiles with both pieces?
Basically, is the speed bonus great enough to make it worthwhile?
With a full mercurial set equipped, it's barely faster than normal and unless you're going down a long corridor, it's hardly perceptible. I don't find the shock resist to be all that beneficial either in the roarmulus levels. Where fire resist is very good thing in FSC, I find that I can go without shock resist in the roarmulus levels and still be fine.
All in all, the mercurial set is a complete letdown when compared to the barbarous thorn line that came out with the last "expansion". I hope the devs recognize this and give it a boost.
Second that. Not worth it even in levels where you get mostly piercing damage. I did craft that set with fun equipment in mind, not strong equipment. Well, as expected it isn't strong, but I sort of miss the fun part too. Even if that running speed bonus was on 2 trinkets instead, I'm not sure if I'd wear them.

yes, but that is when everyone can see how awesome it is! In combat, everyone is only watching what they are doing. (OK, good players keep an eye out for other players, but not enough to notice movement speed...)
OK, more seriously... is it enough so that bombers can take a charged bomb and lead the pack instead of falling behind? If so, that may be useful. Likewise, many guns slow you down slightly while firing/reloading. If it helps gunners kite monsters, again, that might be useful. I see a lot fewer cases where a slight speed advantage could help sword users.
But, since finding quicksilver armor was one of my goals, I'm going to continue with my leveling up of the armor and call it good enough. Is there actually any really rare drops anymore? Besides the mewkat hat, which apparently doesn't drop...

Well, I finally got around to actually testing just how much faster you are with this armor. I have only one piece, and I assume that two would double your speed boost, but I don't think it matters much.
After clearing a deconstruction zone, a friend and I raced from one side to the other in a straight line, with no boxes or obstacles. We started at the same time and by the end, i was one to two squares ahead. That's it. The speed boost *is* measurable (I had my doubts), but only in contrived cases. If you are running through a normal level, practicing cutting corners tight and not getting tripped up on boxes/valve wheels/lamp posts/etc. will be *FAR* more of a speed boost than this armor. Sure, in theory, this speed boost might let you back up just enough faster to avoid being hit, or to dodge a gun puppy bullet, or something, but I suspect you can go for days of game time without ever having such a case.
Still, this armor isn't the worst in the game, the 5* version should be more than enough for any place in T1/T2. It costs less than most 5* armor since you are starting at 3* with tokens. It is better than the royal jelly armor because shock resistance is more useful than sleep/stun. It is better than the 5* cobalt line (Azure?). It is better than the ancient plate mail you get from the FSC. *shrug*
Hmm. based on wrs' post, I think I'll hold off on going after a move speed boost until we start seeing 'Medium' on single gear pieces -- at that point, I think, it will become really useful for kiting mobs around with guns or bombs.
Wow two squares across a decon zone... that's sad. Think I'll pass on that armor.
i just got the set today and for my test, we ran from one button to the next in a standard arena level, and i was maybe 4 squares ahead. i should count the squares on the map to get a more exact % speed boost but "medium" seems like 1% or something. pretty much useless in any situation except running in a straight line for a very long distance :(
How about you do tests running while charging stuff and shoting guns? Don't really care about the normal running, i'm interested how much it adds when you're charging/shoting.
I too am curious about how the speed boost works against effects that slow you down... But yeah, I was grouped with someone who had the helm, the other day, and just in terms of regular walking speed it was not noticeable in the slightest.
On the other hand, hey... it's exactly like any other jelly armor except you get the shock resistance instead of stun/sleep (and I'm pretty sure that stun resistance is just as useless as sleep resistance, as I'm currently wearing platemail AND a jelly helm and still get stunned all the time)...
And on top of that it gives you a unique visual option. You COULD have a blue spherical dome for a face, or a grey spherical dome, or a purple spherical dome with a big pompous king's crown on top... OR you could have a big chrome-dome that later gets an electrical aura and backswept horns. Personally, I think that looks pretty spiffy. :D
What horns? It looks like a bunny suit that melted in the sun.
Anyway - the bonus doesn't seem to do anything... it's not more fun to run around, it's not useful - but l guess we won't know for sure how useless this set really is until pvp is out (I'd bet, that it won't offer any advantage... but who knows...).

so a low speed improvement means a 5% improvement in your speed, not really noticeable. Get both armor pieces, and you'll get a 10% increase in your movement speed.

Where did you get this percentage from? I have not counted the squares across a deconstruction zone, but the 1% for medium seems a lot closer.
Also wondering this.
