Power Surge Weekend????
I'm loving this. So elevators will be 5ce during the time of the power surge?? :O And what's the deal with Chaos Cloak there?? Will we expect something different for the set? A hint!? Please say it is so!
What do you guys think about Power Surge Weekend?
Nobody knows if it can be obtained in-game :o
What does it mean by server time?
Says 2pm server time and 9pm server time. Just wanted to be able to put that in my own time zone (PST)

Power Surge weekends were in the beta, elevators were 5ce, and hourly lotteries (where the unknown n00bs always won) were always held.
Something bad can also happen- CE prices will skyrocket... Probably.
The server time is PST. The Chaos Cloak and the Magikat Hat you saw there are just nothing, probably just for show and stuff.

Ah, I was wondering if they'd ever do one of these again...I could've used this a lot sooner though XD Still its always nice to be able to run more stages for less. I'm sad that I won't be making the most use of this though. I really can't play on the weekends so I'll barely be able to get in the Friday bonus (4 PM my time).

Nice to be able to delve for less energy for a couple of days. I'm really looking forward to if they'll do a bugfix tomorrow along with the event, though. I want to use my Polaris the way it's intended. D:
@iNZANE
Why exactly would this cause the price of CE to skyrocket? Half price on elevators means people needing energy half as often as normal. People aren't going to be playing quadruple what they usually play simply because elevators are cheaper. There are only so many hours in the day.
Less cost = less demand for CE = lower prices
this will be fun and it has a nice timing too so i wont get bored of it by end of event :D
E:@above actually yea im gona try to play quite a bit Lol.
E2:dang i thot the event already started Q.Q
@Greenery, Quite obvious why CE would rise because of this.....people need to stock up on CE to use during power surge. Just cause the elevator cost decrease, doesn't mean the amount of CE they have to use is any higher. Most players would probably wanna stock up 1k+ CE to play with over the weekend. So when everybody is stocking up CE for Power Surge, CE Price goes up.
Actually greenery I think thats exactly what he means. More people might get CE just to do way more elevators then what they normally would just because it is cheaper. Yes there are only so many hours in the day but most people might actually be able to play that much for the whole weekend to make use of their CE in a greater way once their Mist runs out. I just think they will think that once their mist is out, they won't feel as bad as using 5 CE instead of 10 on an elevator because they will see it as not going to waste. I don't know that is just my opinion.
Stock up with 1K+CE to play with over the weekend?? Only the extreme with no life will be using that much CE over a three day period solely on gates.
Quite obvious that this event will not cause the price of CE to rise. It will remain where it is or go down. It's simple logic.
Even though CE will be less needed it will also be more valuable. The higher the value of something the more it costs and after the weekend I doubt CE will go back down.
How exactly will it be more valuable? It would be the complete opposite.

because when elevator costs go down
it translates to more CROWNS / 10 energy (or /5 energy)
and when more crowns enter the economy, it devalues crowns, making other things cost more crowns.
materials won't take as big of a hit, or might even drop in price
because materials will also enter the market faster
however demand for them won't actually increase, because crafting costs is still the same.
so the people who have a lot of time and a lot of accounts. will spend their time running depths to stock up on crowns, use it to buy CE, to either keep, or continue to run to make more money. They will stop is when CE costs too much and the profit they make is no longer worth their time.
@greenery
> Quite obvious that this event will not cause the price of CE to rise. It will remain where it is or go down. It's simple logic.
It may seem as clear as day to you that CE prices will go down.
However when the weekend comes and you see that CE prices go up, I hope it will actually open your eyes a little to the dynamics of this system.
That's the Magikat Hat. How to obtain it is unknown.

Expect CE to rise 1-2k directly as a result of this. I'd say 3k for the upper end, but that might be pushing it.
The "power surge" will result in a massive injection of crowns into the economy however since there is no event timed for the same time to get people to buy CE (i.e. Rose Regalia) the amount of CE will remain the same.
More crowns on the market + same amount of CE = CE prices go up.
The only question is how much. The price of CE will ultimately be "stable" at roughly what the "average player" can make for his/her 100 mist. In other words, the price will be stable at what that player can make on 100 mist, buy 100 CE, and play for the same amount again. Above that price, only the very stupid would buy it, as they're "losing crowns" if they do. Below that price, there will "almost" always be someone willing to pay "a little bit more" so they can continue playing.
The primary way players make crowns right now is by milking the jelly king levels (sans the king himself), which will net you 7-9K crowns for your 100 mist. Before the release on Steam the price of CE was moderately stable around 7K. If the "power surge" was perminaent, we could expect CE costs to ultimately stabilize between 14-18K.
What I think is going to happen:
CE prices will peak just shy of 9K at the end of the "power surge". After a few days in which people try to keep prices up, thanks to people buying as much CE as they could with crowns, and the costs of CE being higher than sustainable, the price of CE will start to drop, sharply at first and bottom out around current prices. It'll then start to creep back up to 7-8K -- where it should stabilize.
Zingman - The Spiral Economist.
Zingman the Ignorant is more like it. Ever since the crown output balance update the JK run is no longer producing in the 9k range.
Also, CE at 9K? LOL. Can't wait to come back and Sunday and laugh at that.
I say the CE price will go up like Zingman said, I will bet all the CE I have right now. You can trust me because I was the few who believed Peter Schiff when he predicted the economic recession.

More crowns, means more recipes bought, which means more people needing to craft items. In case you didn't know, it costs CE to craft items. Personally if it increases oh well, I'll get some good use out of my mist.
More people will probably buy CE.Too bad I will only be able to play like 2 hours of the entire event. :/
What folks will hopefully gain from all this discussion...
is that Economies are *complicated*, and hard to predict. (Hence, the Stock Market)

I think you're a bit modest with 1-2K
i would have predicted 3~4k, but because it's only a weekend I'm not sure
current it's ~6k/100 so I would suspect that if elevator prices halved
even 12k/100 would be 'profitable' to some people.
so i can see them even willing to trade 9k+ CR for 100CE to keep playing

I was hedging my bets :P
Plus i'm trying to buy as much CE as I can right now before it prices jump
(oops did I say that outloud....)

LOL
only if they let me know earlier...
cos most of my crowns are currently tied up in recipes = \
if i'm lucky i can sell them off before CE goes up
Just when is 2PM server time anyway? Is it hard to give this information in GMT or something?
If I recall correctly OOO's location is San Fran, CA.
So in 11 hours.

Could someone please tell me how can I make a 6k rate for CE profitable? I don't keep a close watch on my crowns or the numbers of elevators I get, but I don't think I harvest more than ~6,200 crowns in a run... Is JK the answer?

The previous Power Surge weekend was done during the preview (or was it beta?). Elevator costs were 80% off, and there were energy giveaways every hour.
...Also during the beta (or was it preview), CE costs peaked at 22,000 crowns per 100 CE. I do not have information on whether these two events happened at the same time, but it certainly looks plausible.
(If you were wondering about that Chaos Cloak knight and the Magikat Hat knight, they're probably the same two people from the previous Power Surge Weekend's banner. Clearly the Chaos Cloak guy had been upgrading from his old Magic Cloak.)
Seems like this Power Surge is much more... restrained... than the previous one, in the hopes that they can still HAVE Power Surge weekends without Energy prices going crazy again. At least, not to the same extent. I guess if that's what it'll take to have a Power Surge, then I'll take it. I totally never thought they'd never have another one after what happened last time.
Friday, Friday... Gotta get down (the Clockworks) on Friday...
I suppose this is as good a time as any to try for Cradle And All and Dauntless Delver.

There wont be giveaways, that was only for the end of Closed Beta so players could get a chance at the awesome... WHAT TIME IS 2PM SERVER TIME in EST??? I don't even know what time it is right now server time...

Server Time is the same as Pacific Daylight Time (current GMT -7). This means that the event starts at 5pm EST (GMT -4).
timeanddate.com is a great site to look up time zone values to aid you in the math of timezones.
Also, the Previous Power Surge weekend did not coincide with the mystical 22K per 100 CE. That was right before they introduced the current themed stratum system three weeks before the last weekend.

Thanks!... I remember those hard times... the expensive CE -_-
I am so glad I never use my 2 mist tanks yet :D Now I wont be wasting any CE!

Dear OOO,
If you keep putting Kat Hoods / Hats in the images related to your updates and promos, for the love of god please put them in the game and let me get it!

OOO, y u do things to raise energy prices?? ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)
...They're making your energy worth twice as much. Just put off crafting until the weekend is over?
(Also, thank you for the clarification on the beta-and/or-preview's energy prices. Do you happen to remember what the prices were at during or shortly after the last power surge?)
@greenery
Its friday and its already risen 400 crowns since last night. You lost this argument since you said it would lower. kbye
Altho i do doubt itll reach 8-9k crowns / 100, but anything can happen ! lol

It's like Christmas. Everything (seasonal) is more expensive before the Christmas season.
After that, prices of almost everything lower again.
Same with Surge Weekend.
If the event causes energy prices get to the point where it's equal (or more than) the profit from 100 ME, then after the event the prices will eventually begin to go down.
At least that's what I think.
Well, if the prices get to the point when players can't afford buying it and stay there, then it'll be bad (no new players - old players eventualy leaving after some time - bye bye SK). It's up to players (both CE sellers and buyers) to realize that and don't let it happen.
But that's different topic and I also said this before.
But I'm looking for another possible Surge Weekend that will offer lower crafting cost... Guess material prices will go up => profit :D
--------
Also, when you look at the Gates interface in game, you'll find the Game Time there ;)

It's possible that energy prices won't go down after the event. The huge influx of crowns that people earned from Clockwork runs won't go away, while most Christmas presents aren't actively participating in the economy once they are bought. And what will people be doing with those crowns? Probably buying CE, at least in part.
you'd sell off all your CE at the peak in anticipation of the fall after this weekend.
My money would be on prices not falling after this weekend though. There will just be a big inflation, the players that saved up the weekend's excess crowns will grudgingly buy 100 ce a a time as they need it, waiting for the promised fall. This will draw out the inflation and people will adjust... and the price will stick.

The thing is - when there are more crowns, people can afford bying more energy. BUT when the energy prices go up, it kinda negates the "more crowns" thingy.
So more crowns + higher prices => everyone can afford the exact same amount of energy as before => we're not getting anywhere ;)
And the crowns won't last forever, either.

During preview, power surge weekend actually caused the CE prize to take a dive.
(The underlying mechanism probably is that many people used/will use power surge to collect recipes (=higher crown demand), while they put of crafting (=lower CE demand).
On the other hand the economy during preview != current economy.

Either way, storing your wealth in CE is always a safer bet than storing it in crowns. Crowns don't have much intrinsic value, but as for CE, you can always convert it into crowns bit by bit by doing runs through the Clockworks.
So when there's uncertainty about CE prices, just go ahead and buy as much as you can. (Which may or may not cause them to rise anyways.)

I was hanging out in Haven 1 and I found some people that will tell you when the power surge starts if you pay them. That's stupid because you can quickly google timezones but even more stupid is the people that pay for said "service". W-T-F!
lol wow seriously? How much were they paying them?

Actually, last power surge event, wasn't the reason CE prices took a dive because the preview was ending and people with CE to throw around was well, throwing them around to last minute new players? I remember giving out about 3k of CE to random new players while I was sitting around talking listening to people talk to the GMs and I know I wasn't the only one.

They were at about 6,500 when the event started, dipped down to 6,425 right after the start, and are now back up to 6,500.
I'll post in this thread every hour with the current price. :3

Energy price is still 6,500.
5:00-- 6,500
6:00-- 6,500
Difference: 0
I'm wondering what kind of armor is that that looks like a Kat.
