Every so often in PVP while I'm playing my game freezes up. I can't do anything and I can't quit out of the window. I'm using Mac OSX, I've used two different macs and this problem persists. When it freezes if I open up a new SK window I login and it loads me into the PVP game I was just in.

The window that froze previously I am unable to get rid of unless I hard reset my computer (holding down the power button) - If I try to simply shut down or restart it says it cannot because Spiral Knights is prohibiting it.

too. I am also OSX. The game's sound cuts out and then a second or two later, the game freezes. The only thing I can do is force-quit and relog... at least it returns me to the battle, but this is ridiculous, as it happens at least once every two battles... leaning towards once every battle.

I can't even force quit, the windows just sit there, I have 4 SK windows open right now...It happens every few battles, I think when it gets too heated. My settings are on the lowest too.

Happened or the 4th time in 20 min. I'm so done with PVP until this issue is addressed and fixed.

Having the same issue.

Same OS, same symptoms. Only in Blast Network. I can force quit, but not from the dock. I have to use the little 'force quit' function from the Apple dropdown menu in the upper left corner.

Likewise, running pretty minimum settings and it happens on both my machines.

I managed to take third in a round after locking up. I am fairly sure I'd be rocking the network if not for this issue.

Same here

Same here, macbook pro. It seems to freeze near the end of the game when the clock is at around 20 seconds.

Frustrating because several times I've been in 1st place and by the time I force-quit and log back in I have dropped to 2nd due to being an easy target while dc'd =P

Actually no - but good to know. I figured out that if I go to the dropdown menu (by the apple) and click "services" the game completely freezes up and allows me to force quit instead of just giving me the quit option, but I will keep cmd+option+esc in mind as I'm sure I'll have to use it a lot if I want to play PVP.

Same here as well. (Mac user)

Same issue as above, glad I'm not the only one. I've tried playing in a guild team, random team and free-for-all, doesn't matter. Every couple games, the sound goes out and about 10 secs later the whole thing locks up. Didn't this happen to Mac users when the Auction House was launched? You'd think they would test this stuff on a Mac.. guess not.

Just posting to say I have

Just posting to say I have the same issue. Out of the 2 guild matches I played, one of them froze exactly like this. Sound cutting out and everything. I managed to close the window from the force quit menu, and when I restarted it up, I was back in the match I was playing.

Running Mac OS X 10.6.8, though it sounds like a general Mac issue.

4 crashes in 15 mins...

I just tried to play 3 FFA matches and the game froze on each one. I force closed and reopened and it put me right back in the match. On the third match this happened twice. What's the deal??

Basically, it doesn't happen in 10.7, which is what they develop on, but happens in 10.6 and 10.5. They're trying to figure out the problem.

This is stupid. Why implement and advertise a feature if half of your userbase can't even [frigging] play it without freezing? I'm disappointed that something like this would go through so much hype without even bugtesting it. You should know better than this, 3 Rings.

@Bearissoslow: Read the post above yours. If they are developing on 10.7, that means its tested in that environment and worked, which usually means its good enough. If you had to bug test every single configuration found in the wild, there would never be time to actually push the patch out.

So the question remains..... whats so majorly different about 10.7 that native code would work there, but not in older versions?

AFK troubles

So now with Macs freezing in PVP and due to Aug 11 Bugfix we are considered AFK and lose our money and any chance at getting ranks and tokens. This is a whole lot worse than before.

If you know its gonna crash, why do you still join? Most people would avoid it until it got reliable enough to a actually get to the end of a match.

Because it only crashes 20% of the time probably - I've actually played a lot of PVP and even when it did crash I was able to get back in and usually finish 1st or 2nd anyways. Now with this new update its completely worthless and wont play at all, at least before I had a bit of leeway.

Completely agree with Paska, before the updtae it was a pain to have to log again to finish a match, now you can not do this anymore, so no PvP for me until this is fixed...

Everything Paska said is true. Before the patch I could still play, as the client didn't freeze every time, and when it did I could restart it with not too much delay.

Now, forget it.

Also, to answer one of starlinvf's snarks from before about us not keeping our OS up to date: There are various sayings that relate to things like "never buy the first model year of a car", in this case being "never install the .0 version of any OS". 10.7 just recently came out, and with any major release being just a wide-spread bug test these days, I don't upgrade my OS until the .1 update is released. Look how often any major changes in this game are followed soon after by a bugfix. There are always problem with any new release, and it's usually a good idea to wait until the most blatant ones are fixed.

Both last night and just right now (looking at a frozen client). Doing excellent, my team up by 18 to 12. 1:17 left. FROZEN! 4th time in these two days.

Before I did a jelly run yesterday I got 3 freezes.
After I did a jelly run last night I got no freezes. After each game I left to the arcade before starting another. Went from 45 tokens to 81.
This morning I hit the party lobby in the clockworks and went up. First game in and I froze.

So far my conclusion is that it is random. I got lucky last night.

Attempted workarounds - I have twice in my history (more than these past two days) been able to launch a second client and continue. However, the last two times I tried it (today being one) it just hangs at the login screen. It appears the locked client is holding onto the connection with SK? Normally when you launch a second client and log in using the same credentials it kicks out the first.

OS X leopard.

this last time I was able to log in with second client right after the freeze (first client running) but the second client logged into Arcade (already kicked out of blast network).

Happened again

Just did a t3 run to the core, figured I'd end the night with some pvp. Successful first PVP game (but not enough bribing to get bonus). Second game, got successful bribe 2 coins to winning team, 2 minutes left... JAVA LOCKUP. tried second client, no use. logged out completely. yeah, back at haven... >.< I don't know if it is your code or the recent update for Java for leopard... seems to happen alot more now. I am getting more temporary screen freezes in the clockworks, but it doesn't boot me out... i might end up a few squares away from where I want to BE but I usually don't die from it (put exception with arenas and vanaduke lava here).

Does not seem to matter whether I bribe or not (been usually dropping in 3 energy but last few did not contribute any to see if that had any effect - nope, still lockup - tho meter was filled, don't know if it is that?). Finally sick of it though, no more. Last game was up 18 to 9 but both sides were to receive a bonus 2 coins.

This time second client did connect but threw me to haven. I have 5 screenshots of when I got lockup, and one of a graphics glitch during the filling of the meter.

It's worth noting...

... that the devs are expecting the client (OSX, Windows, whatever) to use official Sun Java. OSX (at least prior to Lion, haven't done anything with 10.7 yet) has a "special" Mac Java that has various hooks in it that are not in Sun Java.

I'll add my "BN doesn't work on OSX 10.6" report to the pile, but given I have several issues with my Mac that my Windows desktop doesn't have (even though my Mac has superior hardware) I'm going to assume it has something to do with the Mac JRE.
