I'm horribly sorry for having missed the deadline, but I got confused with the time zones! I live in Brazil and I had calculated that midnight in the US would be around 3am or 5am here, or something like that. Right now it's almost 3, so I guess I did finish in my imagined deadline!
I'm also sorry if I have gotten a little bit carried away, but it was an incredible experience writing about the Spiral Knights universe and its narrative potential. It's very character-based and it builds a lot of tension that I'm afraid the run in the Clockworks might not pay back. One of the reasons for that is that the Clockworks from the game didn't really fit in my serious setting, so I eliminated most of the monsters and had just the overall unfriendliness of the landscape be the enemy (although there are Gremlins! and Snipes!). Also the last chapters were written kind of in a hurry in the last hour or so (so excuse my typos) and they may read a little rushed, although the last chapter is just as dry as I planned.
I am not a native speaker of English and although I like to play with collocation for dramatic effect, please bear with me if you find any horrible and strange constructions.
My working title was "The Cogs" and I like this word because it's both a part of a gearwheel and a type of ship:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cog_(ship)
But in the end I settled with "Terra Incognita", which is a Latin for "unknown land", but it is still related to the "cogs". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terra_incognita
Without further ado, I humbly present you with my really long fanfiction (which took a lot of work and time! please read! and please accept my entry!)
