Found something Peculiar in the Aurora Island background.
So I was walking through a wolver den trying to get some easy heat for some of my stuff when I noticed something shiny in the corner of my eye on the rotating background. On closer inspection there was a little bump thing next to it, so I decided to take a screenshot and be on my merry way.

Unfortunately when I took the screenshot, it didn't sparkle at that moment and all you can see is the little bump behind the scaffolding in the lower right of the screen.
I was lucky enough to see it again only in a different area of the background when I reached the elevator, only this time it isn't blocked by scaffolding and I can actually see it sparkle in the shot.

My character's facing it, I would've had the cursor pointing to it but that disappears in shots. It looks like some strange creature is welding the metal bars.
Now with that in mind I decided to keep going and on the Low Gardens, actually found one rotate into view in a hole in the stage, however you can't see the thing next to the sparks, just the sparks themselves.

If anybody has trouble seeing what I'm talking about after staring at it for a while I'll be happy to bring it into MSpaint and circle it
So I thought that was weird. They really put a lot of detail into the background, but I never noticed those things before. Anybody else notice or am I late to the party? Perhaps some speculation on what it actually is?

I zoomed in really close into the picture, and I don't know about anyone else, but it slightly looks like a Tortodrone.

Well, Totrodrone WAS there in beta... Highlight stuff please?
I would've loved to have fought Tortodrone when he was in, however I only joined when steam hopped into F2P business and have been playing ever since.

^ Prolly the clearest pic.

I would've posted zoom in shots, but it gets too pixelated to make it any clearer than the full size version.

Yes, we're a little silly with details sometimes. The sparkling thing you've circled in your pic is a gremlin scorcher welding the skydome together.

Firstly, Ohai Nick!
Secondly, lol. Even zoomed in all the way, I'd never guess that.
When I look at it now, I can actually see it myself. That little yellow thing behind the "bump" is that fuel tank that they carry. Very interesting detail there.
I wonder if you can see them in the night-levels?
Oh cool I guessed right.. Well on the welding part anyway =P
But that's pretty neat, it's kinda fun looking at the background while you're waiting in the clockworks, it has a lot of cool details put into it.

And wow that was a gremlin scorcher? Nice to know they still work on the clockworks while we destroy most of it ;)

I figured it was a Gremlin Scorcher when I first saw what you were talking about.
It's a gremlin with a welding mask. It makes sense.
Plus that big tank on the back kind of gives it away.
Was standing in the haven lobby when I saw this thread and it got me looking at the background closer. Wow, I hadn't realised the scope of what I was looking at!
here's a diagram I made up-

So each of those spheres in the geartowers is a level! And there rotating is why the levels remix over time. But wow, the size of it all if those cranes are hoisting up entire levels that we run around inside. Well, I THINK we run around inside at least.
Yeah I second BTYM's comment.
That is totes awesometowns, bros!

I always wondered why the background was cogs and gears instead of, well, other levels.

@nick wow
@pixel holy carp man. wow.
@c7 it does sort of look like a tortodrone
@shoebox wouldn't it be coolish if u could see other levels in the background and see other guys fighting?

Spot on pixeljoy, very nice. Yes, levels are housed inside skydomes and then slotted into trays, then stacked to form towers. Each tower then cycles through the Clockworks and when they make their way to the Haven Arcade, they can be entered via a gate.

Aurora Isles, Lichenous Lair and Wolver Den are the only levels that actually spin upside down inside the domes.
I'm not sure if I missed any other levels.

nice work devs, every detail counts, and the whole world fits!

It would make sense that this is the "that players see every day that so far as we've seen, no one has ever figured it out" -- after all, its part of the login screen, so every player sees it every day they logon.
Very very impressive, the amount of thought that goes into small details like this never stops to amaze me.

but i just thought it was gonna be something more deep and insightful about spiral knights than just how the clockworks function. I thought it was common sense that those spheres housed levels.

Seriously. Look at the Time it was Posted BEFORE Posting.
This thread is like 4-Months Old.

I had that same idea. I got bored so I started staring at the background and thought the same thing and I said it in my guild chat and Dark-Fantasy is my Guild leader I am the one he mentioned who said the same idea but gj for figuring it out pixel boy

These days, nothing can stop them.

now nick tell us whats in the core
or maybe we just guess and you tell use when we get it right

When I click the screenshot links, It only brings me to his screenshot library,

Congratulations, another glorious necro.

All these necros are driving me to make a thread to explain necros to the uninformed.

I can see anything, your profile is CLUSTERED with screeshots I can even find the pick, and I want to see it so bad.

just click spiral knights under sort by game. narrows it down a lot
