Ok I dont know if anything pet idea like this has been suggesed but what if we had a new slot, or make it a weapon or trinket slot the iteam would named (pet leash) or something close to it. It would cost CE or CR whatever SK would like to make it and ones you buy one you can go out into a clockwork and find something you want as a pet and tame it. Once you do that you can show it off in town and have it on your profile and when you go back to a clockworks if you are in a party alone or with a friend you and/or your firend can have your pets out to help fight may have low attacks but hey its better then noting.
New Pet Idea
both ideas are a start to this and quit dissaproving of absolutly everything starlinvf. seriously, i havent heard you ever saying something positive. and i keep telling you how it would work, what would be better and so on.
Cullman, if you fancy the idea of pets then check out some of the other pet posts. they all have good ideas and dont be shy to post your own or simply agree or point out flaws to help me inprove it.
Im being honest about it all to make the best it can be. and hopefully bring it to life.
I'll put more positive comments when I see some real thought put into how to integrate them into the game other then.... "we should have pets", "those pets should fight", and "we can put equipment on pets". Then everyone starts agreeing, and start going on about what equipment they can use, but no one has discussions on how to control/deploy them, life spans, how the change in DPS would affect runs, how the AI has a tendency to interfere with crowd control, or considerations about how it could be non-optimal to not have a pet. I've already seen one implementation of pets being poorly implemented and then deeply rooted into combat, to the point where they could never be taken out, and I'd really hate to see Spiral Knights fall into that trap.
Well, i think that the pets should move like a mecha knight but they act as a weapon when we are going to deploy them but the pets are not included in the weapon slot but in a new slot for pet. For the life span and stats, they should like have their own life for diff. Types of pets and it will increase with its level. So like wolver pets will like still inflict piercing damage and for attacks that have knockbacks the enemy still get knocked back. So instead of acting like a secondary weapon, it becomes a weapon which is not included in the weapons slot :P how people get pets should be like rare drops from monsters such as wolvers or chromalisks instead buying them using CE or CrxD
@starlinvf: if theres something missing or flaws and not complete feel free to say whats missing and the flaw. I'd love to think about it and fix it. Sorry if my idea is not really good coz im not such a creative person :P
I think they should just make vanity pets that don't contribute to battle.
Oakgear, if theres too many threads, take out a few of the options, like armour or weapons.
Wuvvums, pets on show would just be like accessory's, we already have them.
@Minatokamikaze: I went into a pretty lengthy rant at Sizuki in another thread, and didn't feel right about spamming it in this one as well. Don't get me wrong, I've been thinking about this a lot the last couple days, but I haven't been able to come up with a system that didn't have a 1 or 2 glaring flaws. Most of the problems crop up with keeping pets an optional feature without it becoming non-optimal (as in its always better to have a pet).
The closest I've gotten is making pets a remote controlled creature instead of autonomous, and having it become the active weapon slot. But it keeps breaking down since it takes the Knight completely out of danger, and the pet could eventually get killed and be of little consequence to the Knight... and that doesn't really bold well for a relationship with your pet. Now that I'm older, I realize how deranged Pokemon really is. I know thats not a functional concern, but that pet is supposed to be your buddy, and all you do is make it fight and die for you.
I also considered making them like Mags from Phantasy Star, where they work into optional functions or abilities (disregarding passive stat boost for obvious reasons). But that idea directly takes them out of combat and turns them into a piece of equipment.... also unsatisfactory results.
Making them a temporary summon (ie like a Mecha Knight) is the most manageable, but it makes gear assignment for pets (something that everyone seems to want) less rewarding. But having them constantly there mucks up the DPS balance, and has a side effect on crowd control since enemies will probably lock on to them.
Theres is however a strong possibility to create a new game mode centered around pets and equipment to make the additions fully relevant, and then limit the summoning abilities in the clockworks so it doesn't heavily impact the run. At least this way, all the benefits of the pet equipment can be realized and balance will be focused mainly on the new game mode.
sorry if i was getting anoyed to you to starlinvf. i think pets have ups and downs about it, and now im just stuck between the two.
to be or not to be that is the question (*deep voice)... i think maybe then pets should exist as what i said, or not exist at all but we should get better mecha-knights in the clockworks, say they should have status's, maybe it can even change to what you are wear.
but to be honest ive just outgrown it now. i can still see why people whant it, but then i can see why they might not.
Well, that's the thing, pets could just serve to be another aesthetic. Believe it or not, some people like having a certain aesthetic and part of it could be a snipe companion or something else.
I mean, the pets in Ragnarok Online did not fight at all. And WoW had vanity pets too. They're kind of standard, actually.
kind of like accessory's then though, so not much point then.
Well that's the point. I think if you want an extra fighter that's not a player they already have that; they're called the robots. And there would be a point; they would have a certain aesthetic, would be "for fun" and people could collect them.
mmm, thats what i think about it, like i said you dont have to have it. though i disagree on that first bit, accessorys for looks and collecting. animals as a extra pair of hands.
If you want an extra pair of hands they already implemented robots, and you could get players. It sounds like pets would be persistent and could probably get over-powered. If they aren't done right they could be a game-breaking or balance-breaking mechanic. It sounds like it could deeply change the dynamic of the game and how the dungeons work to essentially have a off-hand player.
And what if you had a part full of pet-owners in one dungeon? You'd essentially have an 8-person team.
I don't see why we can't have pets simply for fun, and not for some game mechanic.
inviting players means you end up losing some of the crowns and mats.
Actually you don't lose crowns depending on party size. Everyone gets the same amount of crowns, it doesn't change at all.
Mats are inexpensive. Look at the auction house. Aside from the new materials from the shadow lairs you can probably get ANY mat you want for under 4k crowns. I don't think your argument is a sound one for why we should replace players with NPCs. This is meant to be a party game and it's meant to be enhanced by having other players.
thats what i mean. it is shared around and you dont get as much as you would solo, pets would help.
though a thought has just occured to me, they dont have to be pets exactly, they could be an "aura" accesory (i know what i said earlier), for example;
- ghosts could wander around you
- (and i hate myself for saying this one), a few, 3 or so butterfly's could fly around you.
- a pack of wolver spirits could follow you sround, randomly fade now and then and reshow a few seconds later. colour of spirit changes to accesory colour
i think theese ideas have good qaulities, a pet simply sitting on your shoulder will give a kind of juddery feeling since they wont do anything.
aura's only have two options at the moment, this would add choices. everyone using the same auras will get annoying after.
I think i might post this.
heck with pets, I'd be happy if there was a stranger in haven who sold snipe feed you could toss them like some old lady on a park bench
This is a combination of 2 threads started yesterday...... both ideas were not thought out very well when asked about how to balance it against current combat mechanics, although the taming part is new.
