Does anyone play this while not being a fan of the Zelda series?
Topic.
This game is, well, similar to Legend of Zelda. Especially those in the series like Four Swords, Four Swords Adventurers, and Minish Cap. Heck, even the first Crystal Chronicles resembles this (though Crystal Chronicles is not a Zelda game, it resembles them).
So yeah, does anyone play this, but doesn't care much for the Zelda series?

love zelda. my first 45 second take of spiral knights was "OMG, i'm cutting down bushes!!! THIS IS ZELDA!! I LOVE IT!!!!"
since then, i have loved the game for what it is, but i SURE WISH it'd steal from zelda even more :) For all i care, they could have a "zelda team" working in a "zelda think-tank" coming up with ways to make it more like zelda while remaining true to what it is.
I little more adventure. A little more depth. Perhaps even a zelda style castle complete with innerwoven puzzles, secrets accessible only when you come back with different items, hidden treasures, mini-bosses, main bosses, and a shadow-world alternate....all would be welcome.
Deep in the bowels of the lumber dungeon:
Depth D26: OH IF WE HAD A BOMBER, WE COULD BLOW UP THAT WALL AND SEE WHATS BEHIND IT!!! sweeeeet, there was a prism key behind it!! now i can go back to the snarby shadow liar and finally open that prism gate ive seen a thousand times and grab that purple gem. Once i get the purple gem i can go to the IMF and put it on the purple gem alter and get a redeem code to be used in back in D28 of the lumbar dungeon. I wonder what it does?
gets back to D28 of lumber dungeon...how exciting...i'm going to use my redeem code!!! ***plays zelda i found a secret music****
pauses to let you imagine this in your head
The wall slides back to reveal a darkened corridor. Darkened corridor twists and turns to reveal a small pond. Pixie raises out of the small pond and welcomes you, explains what a great hero you are, and then gives you the grimelton ring of grimalken mastery. (for trinket slot).
Now your weapons can hurt the grimelkins in the candlestick keep levels!!! now you can kill grimelkins and collect 20 grimelkin tokens. You can use them to buy the grimelkin flute.....you can play that to be warped to CANDLESTICK CASTLE!!! and there we can start this interlocking web of talismans, secret passages and unlockable content all over again with new fantastic area's to unlock, explore, dominate, be mystified and generally amazed by.
heheh. yeah. a little more depth and complexity without taking our the light-hearted, easy-going nature of the game. Don't feel like messing with all that, explorign all that? no prob. Just go to the lumber dungeon and grind through 8 levels, collect heat, collect crowns, kill stuff, and have fun. Just like we do in jelly king, just like we do in FSC.

I think it's more like the Diablo series or Torchlight.
That said, I keep expecting to get rupees from cutting down the bushes.

i have never tried Zelda and i now know that i would never want to

you couldnt be more wrong :(
no gamer should ever go through life without playing the zelda series.
Anyone who plays this game yet claims never to have seen/played Zelda is lying.

"Does anyone play this while not being a fan of the Zelda series?"
Here's a question for you; Does anyone engage their brain before starting a topic?
If this HAS to be on the forum, put it in gremlin chatter.

I don't like it when things are hidden and i have to look all over to find them. I have heard of zelda but i have never seen or played it. i only play a few online games. i don't have a game system and i never will.
@Melisan
Listen, you don't have to go all "herp-derp you posted this in the wrong section idiot".
I posted this here because I think it has some relations to SK. But, if I'm wrong I'd gladly accept my mistake, and won't do it again. But until this topic is moved to Gremlin Chatter, I still believe I have put this in the right spot.
But, really? Saying I have no brain? That hurts my feelings.

I feel this game does emulate some of The Legend of Zelda (bushes), but it's more Phantasy Star Online to me.

I'm currently playing Spiral Knights and the new Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
While they are distinctly different, I like how SK borrows the heart and collecting coins from bushes, etc.
I sometimes wish there was more puzzle solving levels in SK, such as switches/levers (hit in a certain order) to open secret doors/dungeons.
Also, Link needs to earn new "tools" in order to attain access to new areas.
Let's just say, I like how they are the same, and I like how they are different. A little more depth in SK (akin to Zelda content) might make things a lot more interesting.
PS: For Zelda fans unsure of Skyward Sword - you might dislike it at first, but after a few hours, it really is an amazing addition to the series.

While I'm vaguely aware of the Zelda series, I've never played it. However, saying one game is like another, or stealing from another, can be said about, well, a whole lot of games I can think of. But the same can be said of books, movies, television, etc. etc.
Shakespeare said it pretty well:
If there be nothing new, but that which is
Hath been before, how are our brains beguiled,
Which, labouring for invention, bear amiss
The second burden of a former child.
(Sonnet 59)

I only played Four Swords... but a year after I began playing Spiral Knights! (October 2010)

I'm NOT a fan of the zelda series at all and am one of the most hardcore spiral knights players around xD
I do know quite a few zelda fanatics who play because of the similarities though.
BUT I do like crystal chronicles

I wasn't a lucky enough kid to get the original Zeldas on NES, never got the one on SN, but did play through the one before Ocarina of Time. It was all right.
I dislike Zelda on principle now because of it's iconic role in internet culture. It's a really lame thing to rally around..though it's not near as lame as my little ponies are...

Ha ha, my point was not really that the post is in the wrong section but that it’s just one of the most pointless comments I've ever heard. Now if you had said wow I think that SK borrows some ideas from the zelda series (well you would not have been the first one to post about that), you may have had a more interesting discussion.
Tengu I had zelda on the Nes, the one with the gold cartridge and it was cool.

...in this game concerns to Vanadukke's mask.
I would risk saying that Vanadukke himself is not a bad guy at all. He is the lord of the Almirean yet he acts so agressive, dark and shadowy because he is cursed by that floating fiery mask.
Just like it happened with the Skull Kid who wore the Majora's Mask and got cursed by its evil power. He had never been a bad creature.
Stop to think for a while: when the mask comes out of Vanadukke's body he somehow faints while the mask keeps on attacking over and over. He is so cursed by that mask!!
Another thing: when you grab a sprite and throw water at it it purifies. Have you seen the curse mark on top of the sprites when they are trapped? It means he is cursed. But as soon as you throw water at it it becomes white (purified) and the curse vanishes. Same idea applied to Vana's mask. When you hit water on it it turns blue and stops attacking (as if the curse would somehow temporarily vanish). But the cursing power of that one is much stronger for it comes from within so it grows back on it!!
That is just me but yea I'd say "Majora's Mask" pretty much solved the mistery behind Vanadukke's behaviour. =P

@Hymura If that's the case, then how come Vanaduke still attacks you after his mask is destroyed? If the mask was making him aggressive, Vanaduke would stop attacking after the mask is gone.
the mask is never really "destroyed" it changes shape before that happens, just like in majoras mask at the final boss
ty for mentioning that, ill be dreaming of the masks origin now(ull know the connection if uve read the manga)
also i love how MM got so many speculations and theories from the players while sk gets fan fictions
i used to think MM is a bit far fetched from the zelda series but it even complements the mist energy/gate rotation(a game with an actual time flow and regularities!)
and since were already on it, my top music recommendations for dreaming about MM
just curious if we found more similarities in generic mmorpg than in zelda series if we actually tryed(altho the weapon/skill system is somewhat groundbreaking as it influences most of the gameplay :l, so Zelda's weapon arsenal might win :'D)

I have Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past on the SNES. I haven't played it for a long while, but yes, it's very similar, and yes, Zelda is awesome.

I like The Legend of Zelda...............and I play this game.

I'm just gunna...gunna leave this riiiiiight here...

A little(Ok, a LOT) of Cussing in those vids, but they're funny...to me...Everyone has their own Opinions. ._.
...Get off my back... ;-;
Anyways, Nope, I HAVE played Zelda before Spiral Knights. To those who haven't: http://i529.photobucket.com/albums/dd333/Sonic402183/YDTMASDF.jpg

This game IS similar to zelda, but a lot more to classic zelda, think of A link to the past and before, when the series was more focused on combat than on puzzles.
If you like this game, chances are that you will like classic zelda.
and you can actually feel a big difference between the classic zeldas and four swords adventures, while both are top down view, four swords adventures is a lot more focused on puzzles.
I like the classic series a lot more, heh, more fun and open in my opinion.
I don't think this is that much like Zelda...
There are a lot of top down type games that mimic the original Zelda, but I wouldn't say that SK is heavily based off of Zelda. Zelda focuses more on single player problem/puzzle solving, while SK is more around multiplayer and combat. Zelda combat tends to be a puzzle on its own, with most of the enemies that actually pose a challenge only being defeated by a certain piece of equipment used in a certain way. SK combat is swing sword until stuff stops moving + dodge/block when enemy says "I'm about to attack!" via colored lines on the ground.
That being said, I stopped caring about the Zelda series after I finished Twilight Princess a few years ago.
