Meaning of this strange treasure boxes dissapear?

I remember same place was only 3 of 5 treasure boxes (2 replaced with blocks) and 1 erasing cube which I accidentally triggered.
Now there are 0 treasure boxes in same place xD
strange stuff. I saw someone once uploaded pic there was thorn barrier instead of treasure boxes.

One I found was just blocks. I had fun breaking them, but I did wish that place had some treasure...

Your pic one and my are the rarest, the rest mentioned, not so much.
The room has many, many possibilities, that is one of them. Among others are a room full of poison briars, 4 treasure boxes (with or without an Energy Gate), 4 respawning regular blocks, a button that triggers a few enemies to spawn, etc.
It is simply part of the whimsy of the Clockworks.
