Hello citizen knights of Cradle, I am Rgn-Vertigo, Guildmaster of Shadow Mercenaries, and I'd like to let everyone out there know that we are going to be hosting Spiral Knight's First Ever Fashion Show on Sunday the 15'th of January 2012, 9AM EST.

We have not exactly confirmed which Haven Baazar this will be hosted in yet, but I'll get into detail about the event here.

First of all, why should I attend this? Despite it being the first Fashion Show ever set in Spiral Knights, there will be VIP Special guests Magnus and Biznasty over also! And of course, there will be many entrants that will have great senses of fashion, for you guys to see and might inspire any of you into using their costumes they put out. We will be looking mainly for unique and great usages of accessories, and of course the matching themes of costumes.

As for the categories, there will be 10 categories that you guys will be able to see, which I will list them right here...

*Black
*White
*Red
*Blue
*Green
*Gold (Yellow)
*Cute
*Scary
*Miscellaneous (Can be anything, that looks 'the best')
*Awesome (Bad@$$).

People may have concerns here about "Does personal color matter" for the color category, and the answer is no. If we focus on personal color also, it wouldn't be fair for everyone.

Nextly, the judges. We present to you our four selected judges:

Some of you might know these people, but I'm sure it will work out all good. This briefly is how the fashion show is going to be worked out by the SMC Crew group and with assistance from guilds "Valkyrie Knights" "Shadowmyst" "Kawaii" and the one and only, "Guild". More detailed details will be posted here soon, if you have any questions please feel free to ask below!

Hello everyone, my name is Soral, and as Vert mentioned I'll be helping to judge this little shindig.

I'd like to take this moment to mention that we'll be having preliminaries one hour before the main event takes place, and roughly 20-40 participants (based on turnout) will go on to take part in each of the main categories. Only the best will move on, so, as the loading screen hint often tells you, please dress for success!

Also, in addition to our exciting celebrity guests, there are also equally exciting (and fabulous) prizes being worked out at the moment which range from Steam Gifts to ingame Spiral Knights items! HOORAY!

So if you feel like you've got what it takes to dominate the realm of Spiral Fashion, come on over and strut around like the magnificent peacock you think you are!

(Disclaimer: by showing up you subject yourself to crushed dreams and hurt feelings when Ters tells you your outfit sucks)

As for the prizes, will come pretty much into Accessories ingame because, that's obviously the solution for being unique, and accessorizing yourself... Fashion for success, Hooah. For the prizes part on the steam games and coupons, confirmed that we have 50% off coupons for Worms Reloaded, and Valve titles. There's also the 33% Coupon for Valve titles, and also a 10% off Codemasters titles. As for the steam game, it's the complete Half Life series, so you guys might be able to enjoy that as well.

For the accessories that will be given out, they will all be opened via lockboxes, fresh. So noone will know what accessories they might get! Although we are not going to spoil out the GRAND PRIZE... You guys will have to be participating the event to be able to know this fabulous "Grand Prize"! Compete to be the best, show off your fashion to the world!

Even though if you couldn't participate-- again, I highly suggest you guys to come watch. There will be many interesting things for you guys to see, I'm pretty sure with that.

Hello, as you have read in

Hello, as you have read in the first post, I am one of the judges.

I will be the one managing the pre-selections. There are a few things I'd like you to respect: 1. Listen to me. If I tell you to move aside, move aside.
2. If you are impatient and generally cause a mess, you will be insta-disqualified.
3. I will call your name, and tell you if you pass on or not. Pass means, obviously, you go on, and out, means that you are not good enough, overall, to pass on.
4. If you have more than one outfit, strut your best, if it gets declined, you can >MAIL<, not PM, me (to avoid overflowing of the chat and to be able to keep track of you all better) that you want to try another costume. You are allowed up to 3 costumes.

My judging criteria is mainly based on originality. I will tell you straight out, a set of vog or snarby, or a chapeau on a wolver line armor are a straight out. Because they are overused. We look for creativity.

This is how I'd like you to organize, if you want to participate: 1 hour before the time the actual competition starts, we will gather in Arcade, in a Haven I will announce on that day, around the very last gate to the right. You will have to stand IN A LINE. If you get too far, and don't come back when I tell you to, even if you are some amazing fashion god, you are OUT.
Pay attention, when you hear your name, and PASS, PM me with this exact text: "Understood." only AFTER that I will write your username down on a list of the participants.

I would like this to be organized, as well as the show itself. I hope you will have the courtesy to behave and listen to the crew (judges and Rgn-Vertigo). Misbehaviour will be frowned upon, and of course, disqualified.

As for me as a judge, it will take originality and creativity to impress me. Come with a Magic hood line, on a wolver line armor, and you won't get past the pre-selection. Unless, of course, you somehow made it creative, not the usual Divine+Vog.
I am the judge from Guild, and I will judge drastically, it takes a lot to impress me. On a side note, we'll have some special VIP guests brought, of course, from Guild. The Roaring Vogs, Magnus and Biznasty (unconfirmed), who are here to be complete badasses and stare at your costumes. So let them be good ones. >:o

And, to avoid misleading, the 4 judges will leave their original guilds, to join a temporary guild, where we will discuss the scores for the contestants.

Pretty sure this has been done before actually, so this isn't a first. Past that, I doubt you're gonna go far unless you got some of the rarer accessories, which makes this a rich mans show. A shame.

@Guy: I don't think the point is just about rarer acc's. I mean, a wolver set with wolver tail? Looks cool, but not creative.
Wings or halos? might look good, but that alone won't really stand out. Surely cleverly placed canteens and such can add an effect that lets anything else stand out. If they're trying to be fair, they certainly can't focus entirely on "ooh, that acc is cool/rare/'spensive" and have to focus on the overall getup.

Think it'd be interestin' to see what folk come up with, if you do get a good turnout, if it's all about being creative.

Eh, it's one part that it's rare, and another that the rare accessories look the best and I'd be willing to bet could be put to the most interesting use. It also thins out the possibility that someone else will be rockin' your look or something similar. Not to mention they'd be what breaks ties.

Still, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they will account for all that. I dunno. It's just an easy pit to fall into. Frankly, I'll show up just to see if anyone has any idea as to what to do with trojan/love puppy masks. I've seen not one person use them in a way that didn't make me go meh.

I wanted to get a love puppy

I wanted to get a love puppy mask to go w/ my mad bomber suit, since the upper body size matched (altough the colour slightly off D: ) but they whole 30 day use thing... *shudder at temp fashions*

I don't think they can justify using rarer items to break ties, although I suppose they will automatically appear more stand-out, having less poeple likely to have the same sets; sayin' that, there aren't that many rare/expensive accessories and the people that do show up struttin' rare stuff will be competing against people with the exact same rare stuff.
Whereas the common cheap stuff is pretty seriously varied; anyone who has 20k to throw into an accessory can get one of a pretty wide choice. Interesting use of them can wind up standing out more than just relying solely on one rare acc and nothin' else.

I'd love to come along to this just for the funsies, and to encourage group turnouts like! Got barely an accessory to my name, but you always need the wee poor sods like me to still come along and buff up numbers and keep the attitude hearty! :D
Few questions though..

What exactly will the fashions be judged on? Creativity? Uniqueness? Overall matching/fits nicely? Et cetera..
More specifically, the colour categories, since there's "general the best" categories?
What's the difference between the last two categories?
You mentioned it's in the bazaar, so there'll be no swords, but will shields be included, or should they be un-equipped?
Is it just a "show up at the day" kind of sign-up?

Let me answer Guy's questions.

What exactly will the fashions be judged on?

Creativity. General look, how eye-pleasing they are. Matching, colors and armor style. Good use of accessories. Good armor combinations, clean witout accessories.
For example, an elemental hood with a fused demo suit would fit the green category, look creative and good at the same time. From me, it would get a good score. With a good use of accessories, yes, it will improve, since they will add to the pleasure of viewing the costume. I can only say Fruits would get a straight 10 for his outfit if he were to participate as contestant. It impressed me when I saw it, creative and extremely good looking.

Err, I'm not sure what you're asking here. But the categories are to divide people and give more chances.

What's the difference between the last two categories?

A chapeau on a hood would fit the miscellaneous, but not the badass one. A dread skelly mask on... man, I'm giving suggestions here. Anyway, in the second one, it's outfits that generally shout "Look at me. I'm epic. I could kill monsters with my awesome."

Shields that match the outfit, such as a grey owlite on a divine-looking set, would be a nice touch and give you a better score.

Half-half. If you want to participate, you have to come at the pre-selections, which as I said, will be held by me in a different place, 1 hour before the event.

And the time chosen so that both contestants would be able to come (and it's a Sunday man, no work, wake up early for once! >:o ) AND the judges too. For Rgn, the time is 9PM. And another one of the judges has a similar timeline too.

Err, I'm not sure what you're asking here. But the categories are to divide people and give more chances.

This was more a question on what will be separating the contestants in a colour category from the misc. (the one that's all about "generally looks good")?
Will the colour based ones be just "that's yellow and looks great" Where as the misc one is essentially just the best looking outfit out of all colour categories?

Also, just occurred; will you be expecting people to select a category, or just judge them based on what they fit the most for? Cuz I've no idea what my armour would even go into e.e...

Yes. Such as, a combo of an elemental hood and green tabard would compete in the green category.

You can select one or I will assign you one in the pre-selection. If you know where you want to compete, select it, if not, I'll find the best match.

Some suggestions to help you out:

Scary/badass/cool/rawr
Cute/anime/chibi
wolver sets (since you know that there's gunna be people who just show up in the wolver lines!)
Interesting/innovative/unique/clever
Funny/humorous
booby-prize/horrible/terrible/awful/failure
and maybe one for "sets that are otherwise boring/crappy looking, but made to look interesting by accessories alone".

The ones you have weren't a "here's new ideas", was just tryin' to summarise all the possible categories you could have, that I could think of.

I guess it might be a bit late to suggest this but it could have been nice to have a "duo category" as I constantly see cool people with matching sets idling around haven. Obviously, they don't have to match exactly but fitting a theme, color profile, or anything that makes it work really.
That said, too many categories might dilute the competitiveness.

You can't decline the entire wolver line just because it's the most worn item (for obvious reasons - asi/dmg). If wolver contestants are that much of a problem then simply make a "best full wolver costume" free for all category that anybody and everybody can compete in.

Well I did suggest a wolver catergory!

But mainly the reason they don't want wolver people showin' up is because it's not interesting. They make look cool, but take two steps into haven and you'll find a score people wearin' them straight up. So goin' to a fashion show to see peoples interesting use of accessories and fashions and you just see someone show up wearin' the exact same thing you see fifty of in haven? Is it fashion, interesting, fun? No.

If they do do something unusual or interesting with the wolver line though, he's already said that they'll consider them.

I see why full wolver sets would be declined, even the caps (I think they're butt-ugly) but the coats fit very well with lots of helms, especially if the colors match (yellow on wolver, red on dusker etc).

As an owner of an ash tail coat that i spent a considerable time finding the appropriate chap to color match, then more time finding the perfect tail i am a little offended that wolver and chaps are frowned upon, coral chap, ash tail coat cool Wolver tail fancy pipe and parry, and ghostly aura, its sleek its Chique and i find it offensive that you would judge down on me simply because i chose a fur coat over something less used

@Juances: I believe it is an hour or so after the regular maintenance reboot. To be on the safe side, I'll say an hour instead of 2.

@Oakgear: They're not all just 'selected' randomly, there were specific reasons I chose these people as judges.

P.S. Magnus as VIP has the right to judge your costumes... Watch out.

It's surely NOT limited *YET* After the server reboot tomorrow (Sunday), Tersak should be off finding participants. So you still do have chances to join, no problem!

This is not a "come show off your vog set with a canteen and get stuff" contest. I decline full wolvers. Wolver coats need to be combined with a helm that is uncomminly found combined with a coat. We dont want embervogs running around and I'll snipe you all down. Wolver category will happen over my dead corpse.
Xanafein, if you would have kept shut you could maybe get past the pre. Why? That sounds like a mildly creative costume, as it isnt straigt gold chap on vog coat.

No, the pre selections are right after the reboot in a haven I'll mention about an hour or two in advance. But as long as you make it before 9AM EST, you can add me as friend, adding the message that you want to be pre selected and you can join me.

Actually, I will announce it now, I will hold the pre selections 10 minutes after the server reboot in the right side of the arcade in haven 4. Anybody can come, but you need to get my "Pass" in order to take part in the actual thing. Keep it civilized so everybody can get reviewed. I will judge harsher or lighter based on how many people will show up. If you want to watch but not participate, PLEASE stand apart from the participants and follow what I will ask.

IMPORTANT. That ^ up there, and this:

The final categories are: Cute, scary, basass, and general ( for those who cannot choose/ dont fit in the other ones) if you cannot choose, I can pick one.
The actual show will be in the Bazaar, I will announce the exact place and Haven at the end of the pre selections.
In the actual show, instructions will be given by Rgn-Vertigo so LISTEN to him.
The judges will give you a mark from 1 to 10, Magnus can add to that of he wishes. After each judge has chosen, I will take all the numbers, add them up and divide that by 4, or 5 if Magnus has given a mark too.
After each category has a winner, Rgn shall proceed to tell us how the grand winners will be chosen.
If you have multiple costumes you can enter multiple categories, but can win only one.
That should be it. Any other info will be given on-spot.
As Soral said, by joining you subject yourself to curshed hearts when I tell you your outfit sucks or it's common. We look for creativity.
Any kind of mis-behaviour will be frowned upon and poked in the eye. And kicked.

Equipping a fitting shield will add to your score, an unfitting one will sbstract and none wont do anything.
And just to take sure people dont get confused, only the show starts 1 hour after the reboot, but as dtated in my previous post, the pre selections will be 10 minutes after. Just read the thinds the "important" tells yoh to.
