New forum system

At first sight, the current forum system seems like a sketch. And maybe it really is.
The lack of BBcodes requires the user to get introduced into HTML in order to post anything more than just raw text, there are no user profiles (the best you can do is to pick an avatar from a gallery), you are forced to preview everything before posting/editing, moved posts gets updated on their old areas as well (making post moving pointless), the admins can't do much to customize the forum (as far as i know), and many other deficiencies.
Too bad, because we have a great community here.
There are a lot of options of pre-made forum systems on the internet, and some are really great.
Systems such as vBulletin, myBB and phpBB should be considered, i was once a forum admin and tried those myself, they are great.
If Drupal atleast allow database export, we could do a migration without losing a single post.

The simplicity is kind of neat. I'd like a proper quote system, but the lack of people spamming silliness with bbcode is nice. The only complaint I have about user avatars is that all of the enemy pictures have the Gremlin logo in the back. Being able to see user post history would be nice, but it's not super-necessary either, I guess.

@vivix picking avatars from a gallery should be an option, not the only way to do it.
And you can call me silly, but i really miss a signature feature. It's like your personal space in the forums, and can be even topic of conversation on the gremlin chatter.

I don't like forum signatures. Call me biased, but I really don't want to see a bunch of oddly-sized low-quality pictures of anime icons with Microsoft Comic Sans usernames stapled across the center in an unattractive fashion. xXEmoxXxSEPHIROTH_ANGLE420Xx etc.
Severage has a nice signature. It's simple and also not huge or obnoxious. "~Sev" gets the point across without a 640x572 image of Inuyasha defeating Bowser plastered with EPIC WIN and a bunch of tragic poetry.

You seems like to have been on just as many forums as me. Signs can be annoying, indeed, but the right thing is to dislike a sign, not the whole forum signature feature. Many signs can be beautiful and a real expression of art.
And there would be rules against 800x1280 signs, i'm sure :P

I'm going to respectfully agree to disagree on that one.
If I had a forum signature, it would look something like this:
++++++++++[>+++++++>+++++++++++>+++>++++++++++<<<<-]>+.>+.>++.<<------.>++++++++.>>---.<<++.
It would also be devoid of anime, lyrics, and Microsoft Comic Sans.
Seriously though, things like signatures and profile pictures also require server space, which tends to be something that is not free.

signatures take just as much space as a post...

I've been on a site that's free. Allows signatures just the same as a p2p or f2p with paying content...

Personally, I have nothing against signatures.
Only thing I really want is:
A decent quotation system;
User profiles;
Instant posting, without having to preview first;
and maybe, notifications whenever someone quotes you.

I just want to be able to view all the threads I've previously commented on.
+1

You got me right here, man....right here. lol
On-topic: I agree with Blue-Phaze, except that notifications aren't necessary imo. Personally I'd like to actually show *MY* character on my little avatar <---...because I'm not red, and I don't have Black Rose Regalia. But it's the closest thing to what I do have. D:
Although, that would kind of mess up the enemy avatars. Blah.
