Rescue Missions - let the wounded rest

I did the rescue mission in the T3 fiend levels today, and the two rescued knights there were really... NOT helpful.

I was soloing and thus fought defensively. The two rescued knights however, don't. Upon triggering the group button, they charged in towards nearest targets, getting the devilites' attention, then realized I was backing up drawing the fight out, they ran back to my direction, taking the whole pack towards me.

They once pinned me down into a corner with a few devilites. My shield held, but I never let them did that again.

When I try to go offensive with them, they happened to like killing the bosses first, turning the green devilites into the most dangerous version.

They also Calibur charge devilites into my face. Reminds me of the days playing with PUGs.

"Not helping, guys," and that's exactly why they need rescuing in the first place. In my heart I was cheering for the devilites when the rescued knights were frozen by snowballs. Stay frozen, you!

Suggestion: The AI knights disrupt tactics players want to use. Allow us the option to let them rest, by talking to them. They will then sit down, hide their heads under their arms, and be ignored by the enemies. They will of course be teleported along with the players in this state.

@Evilnut:

Wow.

Extraordinarily, I was thinking the exact same thing earlier doing missions today. Soloing against Fiends, these guys block ALL your gun attacks by shielding from them, hit switches all over the place making it hard to do anything, and don't do *expletive* for damage.

What a coincidence that I was thinking "Why can't you guys just rest for a while?" not hours ago.

I think it'd be cute if you could tell them to hide while you take care of anything. Have a little dialog with them about it. c:

They're pretty much

They're pretty much mechaknights that don't die and don't shock you.

@Nicoya-Kitty:

Except there's usually 3x as many of them to block your bullets, and I'm pretty sure they're even weaker than Mecha Knights...I had 4 of them attacking a single Devilite for like 10 minutes..after I already cut it down to 1/2 HP.

Okay, maybe not 10 minutes, but it was a long time.

Yeah, they barely do any

Yeah, they barely do any damage at all.

Yeah...

I just did the devilite mission today and the knights do a great job of hitting things out of the range of my oh-so-carefully placed DBB's. Interestingly enough, though, it seems that they are unable to go through force fields besides teleporting. So for a small portion of the mission I actually was able to leave them behind while I took care of the baddies. Let me tell you, that part was nice.

That said, I love this idea. +1

I love tactics, I also like

I love tactics, I also like Necromancy and Summoning in many RPGs. I would like to have the option to give them commands, or actually USE the icon commands for something (I'm talking about the Attack! Fall Back! Follow Me! and Help Me! emotes)

Attack: Do what they do now, just pick random targets, or do whatever they like to do.
Fall Back: Attempt to get as far away from enemies as possible, or to turn enemy attention of them entirely, what you're suggesting.
Follow Me: Stick close to the player issuing the command.
Help Me: Either attack your autotargeted enemy, or attack enemies that are attacking you and draw attention onto themselves.

Because I have never seen any of the above commands being used in the clockworks, bar the occaisional "Follow Me" when someone falls behind or the player finds something the party has missed.

If you let them get hit

If you let them get hit enough, they will sit on the ground. I know from the last rescue mission I did :-P

@Nordlead:

The problem is they just DON'T DIE! So they perpetually get in your way..the only way I've ever seen them "die" is after slashing at like 4 Grimalkins, which of course munched on him every time he attacked them.

I haven't been able to "kill" them otherwise.

Can we make them not worthless?

So I did yesterday's Prestige Mission involving a lost knight in Candlestick Keep. I went and found him, then I just left him there because I knew he would do nothing but cause trouble. I went past a party button, so I couldn't even go grab him later. Did it matter? Nope! I was still able to complete the mission and get my daily prestige from it, despite me not even rescuing the knight.

I think in their current state it would be cruel to require players to have these guys actually follow us through dangerous places like CSK, especially if they're going to literally charge in and kill themselves. However, if an AI improvement were made, it would be neat to make it so you have to save these lost/captured knights. I love the idea of a rescue mission, but they really need a bit of work at the moment...

I haven't tried not saving the knights in Deconstruction Zone rescue missions, but I think in these you probably do need to go save the knights. If this is the case, that's kind of a weird inconsistency that should maybe be addressed.

Dudes....

I'd say follow Hex. Emotes may actually have some material use now.

WANT.

They are not worthless.

The only reason I didn't die to the greavers in the great escape was because the rescued knights got their attention. The knights get the enemies attention people.
Also remember the huge amount of howlizters at the end?
The npc knights blocked the bullets and the flying skulls that were meant for me.
A lot of the times the npc knights blocked attacks that were meant for me.
Also the battle against the 3 battlepods at the end was a lot easy because of the knights.
The npc knights are the only reason I could do The Great Escape alone.
They are not worthless.

Way to necro this thread Leafblader.

NPC Knights have been (mostly) FIXED, so they aren't nuisances anymore. They're just dispensable aggro-pullers.

When this thread was made, NPC Knights were broken and blocked all YOUR attacks, but not enemy attacks.
