[TOOL] 3rd-party Buying/Selling Site - clockworkmarket.com
I've knocked together a quick web script to bring together buyers and sellers. It allows you to post the items (materials, gear, recipes) you're looking to buy or sell (including UVs!) and the price you're looking for. The transaction still must take place in-game. The database is searchable, and at the very least will give you some idea of the prices of things. Right now the site looks homely, but it's functional.
Here: http://clockworkmarket.com/
Enter your in-game-name and post your WTBs and WTSs. All postings for materials will time out after three days. All other postings will time out after five days. If you find a posting you like, it's up to you to contact that person in-game and complete the transaction. This site does no actual buying or selling, but it gets you most of the way there. If you click "done" on a posting, it considers your transaction completed at the price you stated. If you click "cancel" it just removes it.
There is, of course, no guarantee, no warranty, and no affiliation or connection of any kind between me and the people who run this game.
I'm happy to hear any comments or suggestions.
Thanks for using the site.
Since the site doesn't do any actual buying or selling, I imagined the quantity field more as an indication of inventory than as the size of the deal. Maybe I should change it, though.
Yeah that does make sense
I love you right now. People just have to start using it.
*typing up mats I have to submit as I type*
I would really love it if people started using it. I would be even happier if something similar were built into the game.
I just finished posting everything I have (minus some rarer things).
It would be less of a hassle if I didn't have to toggle everything to buy/could do all the items in one from instead of one at a time.
If I'm not online at the time, pester me here or shoot an email to vetusnox@vzn.blackberry.net if I'm not online (That will ping my phone so I can respond faster).
I've updated the front page to show the best prices on everything, and removed the timeouts so postings will hang around for more than two hours. I'm going to move to some kind of scheme where the number of listings determine the timeout, but for now, until this starts seeing more use, listings won't time out.
wow, that's really cool :o
I've updated this application to handle armor, swords, and their recipes. Please spread the word, if you think it's worth using.
Okay, also helmets and shields and handguns, since I need some of those.
come on! this could be a really useful interim thingy till they implement some kind of in-game marketplace beyond the /trade channel.
This could be stickied! Good stuff!

You should definitely post this in the General forums. Maybe talk to someone and see if you can get a link from the wiki as well.
Btw what's your in game name?
is underscored (which is ironic sometimes since she undercut my undercuts of the black market's prices). It's listed in the sites documentation in ABOUT.
also....bombs? D:
might it be possible to import an excel sheet for data? or a large copy paste box of some sort
Looks quite interesting. The UI could be a little more dynamic.
Keep working on it~
I love this idea, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to post things. Can you give a quick tutorial?
Wow, Tantarian is selling 15,000 Flame Souls at only 4 cr each!
WOTTA DEAL
That's what happens when you sleep little and code too much.
Thankfully, the thing let's you cancel your offers.
Probably later OP will implement some sort of password system, so canceling other people offers is not as easy.
step one: enter your ign in the designated spot
step two: use the drop downs to select that which you wish to buy/sell
step three: use the drop down to select whether you are buying or selling
step four: input quantity
step five: input desired price
step six: submit
step seven: the wait begins!
I implemented the simplest anti-tamper scheme I could imagine, which was only allowing changes to an IGN's listings to be made from the same IP address. Since there's no way to actually verify or authenticate in-game identities, I didn't think there would be much value in anything fancier. I'll think about putting something fancier on the to-do list.
I'll add bombs and maybe trinkets today.
I've added bombs, and I'm starting to add in the star values for all these materials and gear.
Man, what an awesome tool. How long do listings stay up?
I'm trying to think of a good way to base listing timeouts on the number of listings for each item, with a lower bound of around 2h. Since there isn't much volume, I'm leaving everything up for about a week now. Happy to hear suggestions.
Also, if there are any web designers out there with nothing better to do, I'm happy to take a revised stylesheet.
With the exception of shards you may want the list to be alphabetical, (makes it easier to find stuff though maybe im just weird), you probably want to have it default to selling since most of us are doing just that.
Thanks for the suggestions, gamegeared. I've implemented both.
Not to rain on your parade or anything, but unless this tool is accessible from inside of the game, it's probably not going to be popular enough to do any real good. I've seen such tools made for multiple games, and they always end up failing because they can not keep up with the real time demands of the market.
I wish you the best of luck though!
1: Not every item is listed on the front page with lowest sell/buy prices
2: Listing the lowest sell/buy price just motivates everyone to undercut each other continuously to be on the front page. We should probably go to the page of the item itself to see buy/sell prices
3: Could there be a way to separate the buy and sell orders? I'm attempting to be helpful/see what people want to buy but with all the sell orders...yeah.
Some "overview" options would be nice for those of us who want to look for good deals, but don't have a specific item in mind.
At the least have a "Display all BUY" option would be nice. Then if someone was too lazy to send a tell in game to a seller, or was trying to buy lower than all current lists, you can see them and consider making a sale in game.
Display all Recipe Purchase offers (or all by *** rating) would also be nice. Though I can easily look up each individual recipe for sale when I reach a vendor, sometimes they have a LOT of recipes for sale and I would hate to browse through each one individually.
also, you might want to make it so we can click through pages of offers, or make it so more are shown on one page--right now all we can see is xienblue's inventory, lol...which is fine ofc but if it's set up for materials AND gear AND recipes, it'd be good if we could actually...i dunno, browse i guess? the different item types, because i know there are recipes for sale up there.
I've added in the ability to browse each category by selecting the "All X" from the pulldowns. It should shows all the offers for that type of thing divided into Buy/Sell. The front page still shows the top 30 newest best offers.
Finally figured it out, thanks. I was entering the item and then my name and never getting the buy/sell boxes.
In any case, it would be nice to be able to notate an item having a uv.
UVs should probably be handled some other way, since they're unique and special and probably the price doesn't compare nicely.
Now slightly less ugly! And, if something in your list of items is a "best" price, it'll be bold. Wait. That's italics. It'll be emphasized, how about that?
Maybe I should spend more time playing this game and less time teaching myself SQL.
you should add some kind of system so you can just click some kind of button if u wanna buy stuff and whoever sold it gets like a notification on the site instead of haveing to login to the game, and wait for it to load, and spend 25 crowns to send someone a message (that takes a long time if you have an old/slow computer).
EDIT: wow i just changed my mind about that it only took me like 5 minutes to get 3 haze bombs. i just sent a message with 1500 crowns attached saying i wanted 3 haze bombs and 3 minutes later i got a message with 3 haze bombs attached.
Hmm. I'm not sure I want to implement an out-of-game messaging system. Some kind of search that shows buy requests on items you're selling might be worthwhile. I'm also thinking about a way for people to refresh offers.
er...off-topic, but superbanana, you might want to be careful about trust trades like that. there's always the chance someone would take the money and run.
pfft nonsense i dont need to screw people over
Hey you are getting a 500 internal error, did it blow up or are you making changes?
Making changes. Should be working now, at http://clockworkmarket.com/
Wow. Just...wow. This is a truly fantastic tool! If only more people would use it.
I'll be posting some buy/sell offers in no time.
EDIT: For the life of me, I can't get it to work. Where's the dropdown for choosing Sell/Buy or the field for indicating price?

Kudos, consider me a new user and promoter.
im gonna tell people in haven to go to clockworkmarket.com
I think an option to sell for CE would be beneficial, especially for those late-game items that are exclusively sold in CE. My example would be the Gran Faust and Divine Avenger. The amount of crowns needed to buy one from a seller is ridiculous (~200-240k at this point), while the amount of CE is much easier to handle (~6k).
Sketchytexas, I hope you've figured out how it's supposed to work. You've got to enter your IGN before it'll allow you to post an offer. I need to fix up the interface quite a bit.
I'm not sure how best to implement a CE denomination option. My instinct is that it would be easier for players to handle that when the transaction actually gets done in-game, but if anyone has ideas, I'd love to hear them.
I've got a small idea.
(During the Up-Listing process;)
After "Material" @ [XXXXXX] , put the word 'Crowns', then add a drop-box after that that has two options; [Or] and [And]. After that, another numerical-entry box [XXXXXX] to put your CE amount, and the word 'Energy' afterwards. Of course, the 'Submit' button after that :P
I would suggest that if a user leaves any numerical-entry box Blank, or fills it with a '0', the system will automatically fill that box with "--" (on the main listing page, after the order is input). This would let players know that the buyer/seller is only interested in trades dealing in one set of currency.
My 2c. Great site btw, and im glad you gained a better domain name for it :D
Ah, yes Bleary, I figured it out. I can't believe that wasn't the first thing I tried, actually.
Any chance you could allow the option for UV identification? Loving this site btw =D 2 transactions completed in 10 minutes time.
I think UVs would add alot of data to the code unless you are adding a UV column, i mean you have what low, med, high, very high, max for each uv including, charge time, elemental/pierce/normal/shadow defense, curse/fire/freeze/shock/poison resist. damage to gemlins, undead, slime, construct, beasts, as well as attack speed. that would be a NIGHTMARE to implement. and i think its better to keep UVs out of it for now.
On a side note I have my massive inventory posted up. Send me a tell if im online or message me in game with what you want to buy.

Looks interesting, i would suggest adding an extra bar for number of stacks for sellers. for example selling 10 stacks of 5 shards for ### price, that way its not TOO tedious for the seller to sell many, and its not something where the buyer has to buy a bulk
