Apologies if this has already been suggested somewhere else within the Suggestions Forum, but many would agree with me that Haven at Dusk/Night would be a pleasant idea!

Haven itself is a very beautiful place, from its dazzling bird-like creatures, known as Snipes, to its calming, tranquil environment. What makes Haven stand out is its wonderful Crepscular Ray-like beams of light that descends from the top of the screen (these rays are most obvious when using the High Graphical Setting). We've seen Haven in the winter (commonly known as Winterhaven) and like me, many enjoyed it! It was sad to see Winterhaven part from us. But, what if we could see Haven at Night/Dusk?

I know that many would like to see this. Haven is always stuck in its daytime phase, why not make it Nighttime for a period of time? Here's a couple of suggestions for Haven at night:

- Lanterns/Candles could be placed throughout the Town Square and the Baazar to lighten up Haven a bit. Same applies to the Arcade.
- The color scheme of Haven at Night would closely resemble the Starlight Cradle levels found within the Clockworks.
- Twilight Aura's flies can be seen around Haven at night, probably around the Lanterns/Candles placed in Haven.
- Leaves can appear being swept across the screen as if it were a "windy night" as seen in this video: http://bit.ly/GEs0Rj
- Snipes can be seen roaming around Night Haven, shortly falling a sleep for about 6 seconds, then waking up and roaming Night Haven again! (Idea suggested by User: Amaki)

Yeah!

Way back there (amazing how many suggestion threads crop up in a month), but I remembered it. There's support for this idea, including from me. Especially since you've given some details. Occasional bursts of wind would look nice, as would moths flitting about the place. Maybe sleeping snipes, too?

@Lesdodis I agree! The Winterhaven was a great change of atmosphere, but I do agree with you when you said you'd like to see some new Havens. The typical sunny and jolly Haven can get a bit boring from time to time.

@Amaki - Definitely! I agree with the sleeping Snipes part. Would totally fit the environment! Where Snipes are usually seen, maybe they can be in and out of sleep? They'd be roaming around for a short period of time before falling asleep, then they'd get up and roam around again!

+1 amazing idea!ive never thought about it,but the regular ol' haven can get a bit......boring.a change in atmosphere by adding a nightime would be quite lovely!everything that you said,including the twilight aura flies and the lanterns,i can imagine in my head,and it looks amazing and so tranquile!and sleeping snipes,am i the only one imagining little snipes here and there in haven sleeping while wearing little sleeping caps?

It's little things like this that make an MMO more immersive for players, and a nighttime Haven would be a simple and effective way to give a bit more life to the game.

@Blue-Phaze - Thank you! I think Amaki hit the nail on the head with the sleeping Snipes suggestion. I can't believe I didn't think of that when thinking up those other suggestions.

@Diamondshreddie - I agree - It would be a nice change in atmosphere. As many have told me, Haven's daytime phase can get a bit tedious, even for me.

@Magnicth - Thanks! I'm able to imagine Haven at Night/Dusk too! Snipes roaming around the place falling in and out of sleep, wearing little sleeping hats like you suggested perhaps? That would be great. I would absolutely enjoy Spiral Knights a lot more if they incorperated this into Haven, since most users spend their time there.

but if it was dark at night time it would have to run by america's clock (because the server is in america) and that would mean for ppl in other countries like australia and other places far from america it would be night time almost EVERY time we play. -1 i like the idea tho

I think the main problem with this is WHEN will the game be at dusk/night, and when will it be in at day. I honestly think Haven should have it's own time cycle, separate from our own. One that enters night around twice per "normal" day, kinda like how Minecraft has it's own Day/Night cycle.

Anyhow, support! I'll finally be able to live out my dream of bein' the creepy guy in the alleyways at night.

@Dagunner - Very sad to hear that you disagree with this suggestion. But, I didn't exactly say that it would have to follow America's Server Time. Haven could have its own time in the game, like Alphastevo suggested.

@Shion-Sinx - Agreed! It doesn't exactly have to be Candlestick Keep dark, just extremely similar to the Starlight Cradle levels which are more bluish than dark.

@Cyankitsune - First I've ever heard of someone posting the same thing in the Suggestions Forum. I don't think that would work though, since we all live in different parts of this planet.

@Alphastevo - I strongly agree with what you said about Haven having its own time cycle that is completely seperate from our own. I've seen other MMO's with it, but I can't exactly remember the names of them. Like you said, Minecraft doesn't follow Server Times, so maybe Spiral Knights developers can learn from this?

Yeah, I think I read that idea in the older thread. My bad - I was just suggesting that the day/night cycle shouldn't depend on a specific time zone, it would just happen a few times over the course of a 24-hour period.

Like, say, every 5 hours we'd have 3 hours of night (or something to that affect), just something that could happen only one or twice during a playing period.

Yeah... I definitely agree with Lesdodis and Amaki.

I never noticed how Haven looked. What about if there were festivals? The snipes drinking wine, falling drunk, lol, of course Feron, Kozma, etc, would have a party.The auction house staff and strangers and knights would get together. Then in a climax, (knights in this audience) add whatever feels good.

A little input of mine

I would suggest this alot, I like and it be lovely (and maye romantic for them sk couples? =3) I suggest a 6 hour cycle. every 6 hours they can cycle btween day and night. It e nice to sit near the fountain as night falls and the usual bgm is replaced with a calm soothing bgm. =3 then I can wander the streets at night poking at sleeping snipes and knights as the cool calm breeze rustles softly through.

@Cyankitsune - Hmm, that could work. Make it 6 hours though as 5 hours may seem a little short. Having a 6 hour night might work though. I definitely agree with these suggestions!

@Bluebrawler - Hahaha! Couldn't help but laugh at this!

@Hexzyle - Hmm, background music may be a problem at the moment. When I first thought of Haven at night, I had thought of a track that isn't currently used for anything that could work, but then was told, by a Guildie in the guild that I'm Founder of, Gyro Avengers, that it seemed a bit too scary/sad for Haven at night. This is the track I'm talking about.

My argument to what a Guildie said is that Nighttime can be very scary, for some. It's dark, and you aren't able to see much. But I do see where he was coming from. Maybe that theme could be used for a Halloween event at some point in the game. Maybe Three Rings would have to remix the current Haven theme like what they did with Winterhaven.

@Spellfencer - When I read "festivals" I instantly thought of the Halloween one held a couple months back. I don't see when the festivals you speak of could be held, though. Maybe for a special event like Halloween or Winterhaven?

@Daarke - You know what? 6 hours seems reasonable! That means every 12 hours, you've seen day and night. It makes sense; there's 24 hours in a day. Great suggestion!

What's this about SK couples eh? Haven't seen any couples in-game yet. Well - one, but I don't think they were in a long term relationship. (LOL)

Hmmm...

I think a 6 hour interval gives a nice impression of time flowing. To it to much and time will seem rushed, do it to long and time will drag. 6 hours would be best in my opinion for everyone to get a chance to see both times. Also maybe then we will get the term of Nightowl knights and what not. XD

I really wasn't expecting the sleeping snipes to be so popular. Now the idea's out there, however, I think Spellfencer has a point. Snipes can do a lot of things.

That Graveyard theme ... wonder why they took it out. Sounds like Castle Ambient, but more mournful. If I find anything from another game that would work, I'll link it.

@Daarke - Agreed! 6 hours seems perfect. In 24 hours, we would've seen two nights and two days. Every 12 hours, one day and night has passed. This gives everyone the opportunity to experience both day and night no matter where they are on Earth. Hah! Nightowl Knights! Genius!

@Amaki - Sleeping Snipes is popular because it's a simple, yet brilliant idea! Even I didn't even think of that idea when thinking up this one. Plus, I think it's something that everyone would like to see since Snipes are extremely lively in the daytime.

Also, the Graveyard theme is in fact "Castle Action" (I'm a massive fan of BGM) but as you said, it does seem more mournful. I have no idea why they even took it out of the game. Maybe they're planning on using it for a Core Level. Who knows what Three Rings has in store for us? Thanks for your support and suggestion on this, Amaki!

Perhaps, to go along with this, Haven could change during the seasons? We could have the current Haven for summer, an orangy feel with dead leaves for autumn, a white feel with snow for winter and a lively feel as the plants burst to life in spring. (not really sure how spring/summer would differ though :/ )

Kroknor - Well if it isn't my fellow guildie, Kroknor! I agree, people with Vog Cub and/or Divine Veils will look outstanding in the dark. Heck, even people with Skolver would look radiant too; the Skolver Coat is extremely shiny. Thanks for your support!

Yeah, actually, that could work! But that would be a heck of a lot of work for Three Rings as they have to keep re-modelling Haven like what they did with Winterhaven! Great suggestion, though. If you'd like this idea to be more recognized then create a new Thread specifically about this idea! Thanks.

The already have night textures that can work for this actually. If you look at their textures they can just use the grass textures from like the snarby levels, and a few of the dirt textures and foliage textures. And they have someone lit up snipes on the sniped stranger hat. I bet if this got enough support i could simulate it in photoshop actually.

I'm happy you actually posted this. It's such a good idea, and it shouldn't go to waste! Sleepy snipes, fireflies, lanterns, floaty leaves, all of it to make Haven more beautiful!

In regard to the music, Haven is such a cheery place, and the old graveyard theme just doesn't fit, however epic it may be. It needs a cheery song!

And for the times, I think every few hours would be good for the change from night to day.

Kellnox - Kellnox! Another member, co-founder, of Gyro Avengers! Good to see you're here supporting this suggestion! I agree with what you said about the music. Maybe the "Graveyard" theme could be saved for the next Halloween event if Haven is at night then. We need a cheery, but cosy, Haven theme for Haven at Night.

For times, I think 6 hours is reasonable. We could have a 6 hour Night and a 6 hour day. I've already explained why above.

As for the last personal bit, I wasn't going to call you a guildie anyway... x)

Magnicth - The more support we get, the bigger the chance of seeing this in-game! Mostly when a Thread is getting the public eye, the Developers usually listen to what players want since we are in fact the players of the game. Same happened with the update when they changed smileys to emoticons in the game. The public didn't like it, and Three Rings listened and removed the feature just hours after updating the game. The same could happen to Haven at Night.

Every Wolver Alchemy path would look great in the dark, except for Snarbolax. All you'd be able to see is those red eyes...

Quite creepy...

Okay so I could see this all happening its just based off of the clock they want to set this on, most of what I see and I'm staring to see as a great idea is that the haven should have its own seperate time frame non related to any other it should probly cycle maby 4-6 times a day maby even more but I think six is the most that it should.
Seasons are another great idea and would be nice to see but as I'm sure might take time to do.
Seasonal events as well it all looks nice and would be cool and give the game more character. Like imposticubes, they wanted to be different and have character and now the game will..
