Greetings testers!

The Preview server is available with a new Lockdown map, Mines, along with the Legion of Almire danger mission, which we would like to have tested further. Please read the following instructions carefully before testing.

Danger Mission: The Legion of Almire
Our first danger mission can be found under Prestige Missions. We are looking for feedback on difficulty (too hard/easy?), the new monsters (were they fun/interesting to fight), and any other thoughts or suggestions to improve the experience. These missions are for experienced players, and should be appropriately difficult - please be as specific as possible when comparing difficulty to other experiences and dungeons you have played in the game. You will have access to tier-appropriate gear for the purposes of this test. For those of you who participated in the first round testing, definitely note if the experience was better or worse this time around, and how it could be improved.

Please note that this mission is still a work in progress - monsters and especially rewards are NOT final. Current loot in the level is NOT indicative of the final payout.

Lockdown Maps: Stadium and Mines
Stadium
Utilize bombshells and team-specific barriers to hold your team's side of the map in an arena with plenty of space for large battles.

Mines
Carve and blast your way through this stone-filled mine. Open up assault paths or leave stones in place to delay your enemies. Map feedback is appreciated!

Leave us your feedback in the Testing Feedback forums: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/forum/62

The Preview Server is now closed.

Thanks for participating!

New lockdown maps

Sme preliminary thoughts on the lockdown maps. This is from the perspective of someone who plays guardian- I'm very sensitive to the effect of movement speed, as well as the tension between capture and damage stats.

Mines
I really like the addition of rockets to knock people back, and the plethora of narrow hallways makes it more likely that rockets will hit. Gunners will love those areas. One problem I ran into, though: the locker room entrance is too narrow, and in one match, a nimble guardian/ shock bomber duo was able to bottle up our respawns. (this isn't the only map that aids spawn camping, but it's the only one that places ammo outside to make spawn camping easier) Because rockets can be thrown farther than guns shoot, might I suggest that the rocket pads be placed inside the locker room? This would make it harder for opponents to hang just out of gun range while waiting to kill respawns. Having rockets inflict stun might also be thematically appropriate.

As a slow walking guardian, I had some trouble given that this map is very.... elongated, with a lot of fighting areas that are very far from a capture point. During one match, roughly half the players switched to striker to join an endless melee in an out of the way spot. It definitely impacted our teamwork where captures were concerned.

I like the clearing with pillars in the center, but the cover it provides might favor sword strikers on a map that's already movement-speed-centric... Putting spike traps or even unquenchable magma in random corners would offset people who randomly dash around, and reducing the length of the hallways would encourage people to fight near capture points. This will be a great spot for bombers, though, especially as people get their bombs heated to level 10 for the ctr bonus.

Stadium
There's a lot of new stuff in this map, and overall, I like it. Traps and walls are thoughtfully placed around control points in a way that forces people to attack sideways, cutting a lot of the fake advantage of attacking (or defending) from below. The rocket pads behind a fire trap promise to generate hours of schadenfreude, and while team barriers are still new to me, I really like the attempt to discourage spawn camping by granting very clear advantages to one team near their home base. The video screens and cheering fans also lend ambience.

My approval of this map has just two caveats. First, all the awesome new stuff is a bit laggy, and none of the graphics updates have ever done anything for the effect that fire/status pits have on my frame rate, even on low detail. Complaints of lag were common from players during my match. Second, the southern corner capture points are weirdly out of the way and down a long series of isolated hallways; players who go to capture or check these points are basically out of the fight for quite a while by lockdown standards. I'm not sure if I like the implicit promise that the point will be captured between when I notice a point has fallen and when I can arrive to defend, but I suspect that recons would thrive. One way barriers could be used to create a better shortcut for the home team, though making travel time too imbalanced might just put the point out of contention altogether.

Quick thoughts

I really like the changes in Danger mission. I think my main feedback would be to change the starting depth on the tiers. For T3, it would be nice to have it on d24/25. Or ????. I noticed a lack of heat for my gear, and that might be a thing holding back the mission.
