For those who don't know how this gun works and the pro/cons of using it (there is a thread in General Discussion about it):

Pros:
-Normal Damage (no damage penalty regardless of enemy type)
-Very long range (can hit enemies outside of auto-targeting range)
-Very short travel time for bullets (dodging enemies seldom dodge shots if you fire on-target)
-Each shot, normal or charged, can knock down and interrupt enemies that are not immune (i.e. Alpha Wolvers)
-All shots do AOE damage; normal shots damage enemies adjacent to the target and charged shots cause a small-radius explosion on impact
-Charged shots have a high chance of inflicting the Stunned status on enemies

Cons:
-Normal Damage (no damage bonus regardless of enemy type)
-Low Rate of Fire (2 shots before reload) results in lower DPS than Valiance, the other Normal Damage 5-star gun
-Briefly roots player while firing
-Very small push-back after firing
-Charge Attack causes large push-back, knocks the player down and has a slight chance of inflicting the Stunned status on the player

In the balance, the Iron Slug is good at pinning down enemies from a considerable distance and preventing them from moving or attacking by knocking them down and interrupting their attacks. If you aren't splitting your shots up too much between multiple targets you can completely lock down enemies that aren't immune to knockdown, preventing them from moving or attacking at all until they are dead. Iron Slug is less effective as a last-ditch defense when the enemy is up in your face, as the knockdown effect on the enemy is partially offset by the rooting effect on the player, and kiting is also slightly complicated by the rooting effect, though this is balanced by the greater-than-normal range of the gun and low time-to-target of the shots.
