first mission
The first time I ran the prestige mission, I got a Black Kat (in addition to the pre-determined one). So I haven't had bad luck.
You may be inferring too much from a small sample from a random process. The only way to know is to collect careful, systematic, numerous data.

i finally found 1 Kat after
i finally found 1 Kat after doing over 20 levels. This was a mixture of the prestige, rank and arcade levels i finally found my 1 Kat in the 1st minute of todays prestige, Scared to Death.
At this rate i will need to do 1321 levels for one 5* hat... And all within a week? I read about people saying that having a hat shows that you are prestigious or some rubbish because you were dedicated enough to dig in and get the tokens.. really? 1321 levels for a hat? D: Even im not that dedicated.. Just unlucky apparently..
The fact that this event was straight after the sprite release was a mistake imo. There is bugger all undead arcade levels due to the crystals being turned into food atm.
I agree that the spawn rate is messed up. I would like to see the event either last for longer or have the spawn rate increased.

I don't think the spawn rate has decreased. You may just be unlucky. I just began the Scared To Death prestige mission and as soon as I walked out of the starting area, I had two Black Kats and got two pages. It seems to just be luck, in my opinion. (I'm playing on Advanced, not Elite)

Spawn rate seems to be similar to the last time we had Kataclysm. Not sure if it'll be helpful to anyone but I've got 14 Black Kats out of 80 attempts (17.5%) in Candlestick Keep levels.

The spawn rate should atleast be enough to make one spawn per kat level, no? Even just a little boost would be better than this. I farmed 8 hours total on Kat levels and only found four black Kats...

3-4 hours gave me 3 BK, 2 on the same depth, specifically the same corridor, more specifically one after another. while in the other even I found none but the ones of the missions. RNG is RNG.

Also, I haven't been farming 24/7 so It's just luck and how you are doing it:

The problem lies in the drop logic, which effectively cuts the amount of kats you're able to search in 1/4. In the previous event, you and three friends could seperate into four different instance of Candlestick Keep.
Assuming an average CSK will have 25 kats, a CSK takes 5 minutes to speedrun, and that the spawnrate is 1% of all kats being Black Kats, your group would collectively find one Black Kat every 5 minutes, generating 144 tokens over the group per hour. (Numbers totally made up.) With a spawnrate of 1% and a book droprate of 1% as well, with the new loot system the whole group should have their books after an average of 8 and a half hours grinding candlesticks.
However, since invitees get nothing, you can cut all that in 1/4th. 36 tokens to share between you after an hour's running, and your group would have to squeeze in around 33 and half hours to get everyone books.
Over a week. So getting books of dark rituals would become nearly a part-time job.
You'd also only be collectively finding a kat every 20 minutes, which is a discouraging amount of time to basically be doing nothing productive.

Zeddy's logic is right, but only partially so. During the last event, people would mooch off of others' kats. I mooched a bit, but also helped find a bit. But a lot of people just mooched by getting invites and then joining. This was rather unfair to the people running the levels, whom had to find much more than 1/4 of their black kats... while the moochers would make many more tokens per hour than the actual people finding the kats.
So its really for the best in my unbiased 4 kat hat holding opinion, that the drop rate was lowered. (Though the devs COULD stand to raise the chance of finding a black kat depending on how many party members? That'd help the event quite a bit.)

Actually, it puts the spawnrate close to 1%. Notice how I said "36 tokens to share". The calculations assume you're running with a full party.

Been logging my runs through Weight of Darkness (d19) stopping for only required fights, treasure and kats.
- 86 runs, 31 kats (3 tokens each), and 1 book
It is very much random- I started with a dry spell of a dozen runs or so, then had a few kats and a book. Then later, another long spell of a dozen empties, followed by 5 kats in a row, two in the same run. The lowered rate is very much due to being unable to invite or mooch.
Each run sees an estimated average of 20 kats, so I'm looking at a spawn rate of about 1.8%. Being only 1 point of data, the rate is very likely in that range between 1-2% (unless word of dev has confirmed it is in fact 1%?). I doubt I will have enough data on my own to confirm the book rate, maybe there is a collaborative project somewhere?
The issue is definitely the inability to invite/join for tokens, as now every kat you find has to be your own.

The way I see it, and no offense to any party involved here, but the more you complain on the forums about not finding BKs, the less you are looking for and thus finding BKs.
After 3 hours, I only found 3 black Kats. They should increase the spawnrate and its only for a week :/
