Like the name suggests this could be a form of tower defense, but with very few downsides to the player if you fail.
The gameplay:
- When the weekly event starts, all players, no matter the rank, get a mail alert.
- Any time the event is occurring a player may accept the item in the mail (called "Incoming Attack Intel)
- The knight is the brought to a section of the lab called the "Knight Retrieval Center" where they are briefed by either Kora, or Hahn (whichever is more fitting)
- After the briefing they are teleported to a modified map of Haven, the arcade is blocked off, the Bazaar is barricaded, and the barracks only allow you to get the lab (it is part of the same map).
- When a knight dies they are teleported back in front of the lab, with one of their spare revives removed (each player has 2 free revives)
- The event is automatically put on advanced difficulty
- The knights succeed when all 3 waves of monsters are held off, they fail however if the entire party loses their extra lives
- If the defense is a success knights are awarded crowns that vary by the party's level, (i.e. 3 vanguards and a recruit would make more than just 4 vanguards due to the difficulty and to encourage newbies to join), knights gain a special helm to show they have succeeded, and maybe have a rare chance of getting a special piece of guild furniture? Or a chance of getting a special ingredient to make a regular monster trophy in the hunter's lodge?.
- However if the defense fails, ALL knights who participated lose a value equal to what the reward is set as. With the reason to buy the extra materials needed to rebuild.
How it fits into lore:
Ok first things first. How would this fit with the lore? Simple. In OCH we see that monsters are held off with a series of energy gates that allow the knights to build bases in dangerous locations. What I propose is that either the core send out "energy pulses" that cause the gates to shut down, or that they just run out of energy. This would also explain why lower level monsters would come first since they are at the first floor, and why the harder ones would come last because they are at the bottom floor.
The solution for weapons using the core's energy is simple. When the monsters leave the clockworks, they have residual energy clinging to them and, when they are killed, the energy is absorbed by the surrounding knights. Hence essentially causing the players to "descend" the clockworks in Haven.
Instead of having us just appear in Haven like normal, the labs use the previously mentioned "Knight retrieval unit" that would also explain how we are safely retrieved from the clockworks. The reason why Alpha Squadron hasn't be retrieved? The core interferes with any attempts to send a signal in to retrieve them.
Restrictions:
- The game mode is a weekly event (occurs two times a day, one for American players, one for European players.)
- Players, whether they succeed or fail, can only participate once within a 24 hour period
- When the event ends for a party, their weapons are 'drained' of the energy accumulated through the event
- No one is the leader of a party so no one can be kicked
- No mats or rarities are dropped from monsters
Changes to make it more newbie friendly
Using the previously mentioned system, the weapons from tier before the current monster wave can be "overcharged" as it were and do bonus damage. A 2* will still do more than a 1* in tier 2, but it would only be by a factor of about 0.25-.5. This would allow newbies to still be viable members of a the group instead of dead weight. And to stop newbies from just getting 5* mats OOO can do a "hand wave" of that all mats are used in the repairs of haven.
I know its not for everyone, but I thought of this late at knight with 2 friends in a empty Haven 9. Let me know if this could be improved and if it has even a slight chance of being implemented.
BIG APOLOGY TO Psychodestroyer FOR ACCIDENTALLY COPYING HIS IDEA EVEN THOUGH IT HAD NOT BEEN UPDATED FOR A YEAR UPON POSTING THIS! Using his format to hopefully improve the presentation of my own!
Sounds cool, i would definitely play this if it was added!
Kinda has an MvM survival mode feel to it, though the reward might be a bit too high.
idk though
