Because that's what it seems like. I can't see myself ever buying radiant crystals... if my radiant crystal supply runs low, paying for a shadow key and running UFSC for 50-70 crystals is significantly more economical.
Is the intent with the radiant change to promote running UFSC?

EDIT: Okay, I misunderstood slightly, but that's still hardly a savings at all - you either pay 700 E for 50 crystals right then, right there - or you pay 450 E, probably about 10 SoLs and a couple of hours for a variable amount of crystals that might be greater.

Alphappy, I'm pretty sure Khamsin means splitting the cost:
-1800CE/4 is 450CE per person.
-Let's say on Average you get 50 Radiant Fire Crystals from Firestorm Citadel.
-You also get 12,000< Crowns along with a Shadow Lair Material which if lucky, sells for 20,000.
-That's 32,000 Crowns which as 8000/100CE is equal to 400CE so you only actaully spend 50CE if you're able to sell the Material.
-You get 50 Radiant Fire Crystals for 700CE.
This means that theoretically, that if you're able to constantly make 32,000 Crowns over and over:
-By the time you hit 700CE, you would have run UFSC 14 Times, with this added up you would have made 700 Radiant Fire Crystals compared to buying them from the Supply Depot in which case you would have only made 50. This is a 14:1 ratio, hence running Shadow Lair proves to be better than just buying them from the Supply Depot.
Now let's say you can't sell the material at all:
-12,000 Per Run for 450CE, that's 150CE back per run so UFSC is actually only 300CE, this is still a 2:1 ratio compared to supply depot.

I've done it recently but didn't count the heat crystals gained. It makes about 21k +6-7 tokens on Elite though (which seems to be making the material sell for less)

12000 sounds really low. Are you factoring in almirian seals? I think you get 6 from darkfire Vana and they're worth 1k each?

@Zeddy, I completely forgot about the Seals, thanks for reminding me. As for 12,000 I'm more or less taking into account of the last time I ran which was before difficult came into effect. I might try running UFSC to get a better grip on data.
EDIT: Or assuming that people are right and UFSC nets 20,000 average on Elite:
-1800CE/4 is 450CE per person.

-20,000 from running on Elite, beating Darkfire Vanaduke 5 times yields 30,000, if the Material sells that's an additional 20,000 Crowns.
-That's 26,000 without the Material selling and 46,000 Crowns with it selling: 300CE for the former and 500CE for the latter. 150CE for cost for former and netting you back 50CE. (Counting 6,000 since you earn 6-7 Seals per run and each seal is worth 1,000)
-You get 50 Radiant Fire Crystals for 700CE.
Since I can't do the former anymore since you're actually gaining profit, it can be done infinitely and you'd be constantly making enough Energy to constantly run FSC, I'll go ahead with the former of not being able to sell the material:
-26,000 Per Run for 450CE, that's 300CE back per run so UFSC is actually only 150CE per run, this is still nearly a 5:1 ratio compared to supply depot. 250 Radiant Fire Crystals for 750CE compared to 50 Radiant Fire Crystals for 700CE.

What about the first time vanguards? Those Who doesn't have the right 5* gear for UFSC? People who just spent all their money for some crappy UV and now bankcrupt? People who used up all their SoL? People who have crappy latency, (UFSC is one hell of a lagland BTW and I only have one bar on FSC< UFSC is a no go for me(not wasting any SoL)). And of course, the guy who just made his first SK account. Do they know how to buy CE? Not all of them will, I can be sure of that.
And 100% of the Sk community? (which means everyone) Are you sure about that? Next time do some home work before making a statement. I heard that there are people out there who spent four SL keys and opened all four lairs only to realize that he can only get into one of them (me: ROFL ) Trust me, 99.99% of the people in closseium forum section are either trolls, AT haters or raging skolver clones(not to mention the Jemp vs MoJ and 21 vs. climax scandle). Suggestion forums are filled with moronic suggestion which half of the time are hardly relevent (making SK into a FPS. R U SEERUS?!)
SK community is a decent one, but certainly to a smart one. There are stupid and butthurt people here, and sadly they are controlled by an equally as butthurt system. A system that constantly mistreat parts of its fan base, for it be F2P or P2P. Hopefully, one day, radiants can be accessed once again by the masses, the 99%, not just some elitists.

You seem to have misunderstood the word "Capable".
Alphappy said that 100% of the SK community (By community, im guessing he means people who have completed the mission "Crossing the Chasm") is CAPABLE of trading for energy which can then be used to get into UFSC. All of the SK community can get into UFSC (You can invite a T2/T1 player into a terminal and then go into UFSC with them, right?) and trade for energy. If one does not have enough crowns/money, he is capable of making more, If one does not have Enough SoL's he is capable of making more, and such. Thats what he said. He didnt say than everyone in the SK community is capable of finishing UFSC alone, but Everyone is capable of getting into UFSC.
The most plausible reason why the shining crystals are dropping now is so you can actually get your nightblade/blackhawk/graviton heated in time to make your obsidian stuff.
