So I made some eye types and using Spiral Spy, was able to test them and take some pictures. So here goes-

Based on the swarm turrets, these eyes will give the knight a corrupted, evil appearance.

Its every support classes' fear... you're going along, your friend with the gun and sword is kicking butt and you're dropping stagger storm. And then.... OH THE HORROR.

It was once written how every game needs googly eyes, and I feel like this could be the perfect opportunity to show off just how ridiculous you really are.

I've always been a fan of older games, and I know for a fact that Spiral Knights was influenced by a huge number of these sorts of games.

EDIT: I have actually updated this. It should contain all 7 of the eye types, as well as a couple of variations. There are also eyecons for the editional eyes as well, even though I didn't put them under the eyecon tab above.

Still waiting for Bomberman's stern eyes.

The Retro Eyes are the best ones, with Disconnected Eyes close behind. The latter gives the knight a more robotic look, though.

Nice

I'm all for this Idea all though some of the eyes are a bit rough around the edges so I'd hope they would smooth them out before throwing them into boxes.

Also I'd really like there to be a single eye (cyclops or a normal eye and a messed up one on the other side) or just lines like isaac clarkes helm from dead space/plasmatech armor!

Ok, so I went back and added a glowy blurry effect to the corrupted eyes, the crying eyes and the serious eyes.

Googly is different and is better off white imo, pixelated could be given it? I'll make a second version of pixelated in a minute with a pixelated glow effect. And of course the disconnected eye already had it.

Making one eye in the middle was one of my first ideas, but it didn't work out. The game stores eyes as one side of the eye, and it wraps them around, so making the eye in the middle is weird and requires even more loading of things to see if it worked. Making the eyes different per side would be cool, but I'm not sure if its possible. As for Isaac Clarke's helm, that's probably doable.

EDIT: Here is what an Isaac Clarke eye would look like. I'm not sure that it works very well.. it looks strangely flat, and when I don't make it angled to look like that, it looks bend in the middle due to the way the eyes are angled on the knight's face.

Bored and terrified eyes I will see about. Terrified eyes are kind of already a thing with the one type of eye... looks like a donut. But it isn't exactly, so I'll give it a go.

I can see how the googly white ones would be a bit odd or immersion breaking or the likes. But I kind of really like it and could also see it being just fine. Swell, even. I'll leave it up to OOO, as if I have a choice. I did make two versions of it.

Btw, terrified eyes are hard. I'll give sleepy ones a go here in a bit, perhaps. I really want to see these make it into the game, so thanks for all the positive support and otherwise.

I don't understand how you can add custom eyes to SpiralSpy. When I tried it, mine froze and I had to restart the program. I literally copied the default one and added a bit to it.

Its probably how you were editing the image. You have to maintain the color scheme using something like gimp. I don't claim to have any idea about what I'm saying, just that its a thing that I did and it worked. For me.

I actually updated the crying eyes a good bit after I made the screenshot. I should really have made another screen shot... and no, it isn't animated. I'm not sure that that's possible. But then, I haven't tried it.

I've seen someone on deviantART named Pretzelninja add legit anime eyes among others. I've also seen use of black magic in the form of two different eye textures on the same model.

I don't really want to make anime eyes, and none of the official eyes are different on either side. I would suspect that they used a photoshop of some sort upon it.

Is there anything in particular that is bad about them? While I'm not so keen on being ripped apart and told to quit to bolster whoever's self esteem, I'm all for constructive feedback and I could definitely work to improve them if there's something that's actually so terrible.

As far as I can tell, they're only slightly below or on par with the quality found inside the game currently-- which is only because I don't have access to very many tools, and am completely inexperienced. The art team could touch up on them if there's a huge problem, or they could just be added in... a few people seem to like them above, and while this does not (I really hate doing the statistical certainty song and dance every post) exactly guarantee their validity, does lead me to feel somewhat confident in my assertion.

Drowsy: I'll try making this next time I do these. Probably to-morrow, when the gunner update fails to come out.

Snarby/fiery: I tried these, actually. I couldn't get either right, and so didn't post them. I might give fiery another crack though.

Flowery: I hadn't thought of this one, but it seems like it could be legit, if not a bit goofy.

iEyes: I'm not sure what you mean by this. Our eyes are already kind of emote like, and we have pill eyes as well as a few others... post an example.

That's really for OOO to decide.

If it were up to me, they would be made available as a rare drop after completing danger rooms, and the players would never actually be told of their existence.

Specifically:
.0025 chance every time you complete a danger room; same as prize box odds
350 danger rooms completed = first pair of eyes, 100% guaranteed.
1000 danger rooms completed = second eyes
3000 danger rooms completed = third
7000 danger rooms = fourth

After that, it would just be every 5000 danger rooms, guaranteed. This makes certain that everyone adamantly trying to do so gets the eyes. Of course, there are a ton of awesome ways they could plausibly be distributed... trade 1000 sparks of life, buy for 1000 of some other token, featured auction, trade 5000 of each mineral, buy at the core for a million crowns... but this one in particular.
