Hope someone can help me (maybe Trias, who i think was who did the templates) Im a spanish speaker, and when i saw the spanish wiki i was like OMG WHAT IS THIS?! i think it hadn't been uptated since 2 years ago aprox.

So, the english wiki is soooo nice, love the lists and the codes are so well done. My job is only traduce from english to spanish the best i can and without copy/paste to a traductor (but ofcourse the code remains in english, most of the parts) and upload the images to the spanish wiki (the ones that doesnt have english text, except stats).

(That its whats a editor for the other wikis suppose to do.... right?)

But well, i been doing this for like 4 or 5 days and i had two problems with the code. One of them is no big deal but another one really make me mad.

In the damage's table, when i click show it gets # in the url and go to the top of the page, and if i click hide happens again, it is everytime i click it and ofcourse, it happens in all tables with the templates lol. I checked the codes, double-checked them, triple-checked them and i still dunno whyyyyy, everything looks the same as the code from the english wiki, i tried to see if i added something while traslating but nothing, i tried to see if i erase something while traslating but nothing again.

Really i dunno why. The show/hide section's in the weapon/shield's list works fine so if someone could help me to fix it (or better, to tell me what i did wrong xD) would be nice. I want the spanish wiki to work! i mean, its have broken links, non existing pages and im working the best i can to make it look as good as the english one xD

Thx

If you want to copy the format, the templates are where the bulk are made.
I know Dracora-Speaking has really been throwing tons of work into working the templates far.
I know when I worked on the alchemy tree template, the image links and page links would be completely destroyed if everything wasn't uniform.

Templates are really good at both hiding stuff and making things uniform across a ton of pages.
Quite a bit of the templates set up on the english wiki are made to follow a very specific set of page/image naming conventions (which a quick glance suggests you are converting the naming convention to use the templates).

As for things not working all the time despite having the same code...
Sometimes the wiki is delayed on having things update correctly. This is especially true when editing templates. Sometimes giving the page a week to update fill fix the problem. You may be able to enforce changes by saving template calls using the stack call direction (if a page calls template A and template A calls template B, you need to save template B, then template A, then the page).

A big note about the english wiki:
SK staff hasn't been responsible for a good deal of the changes over the past couple years. SK staff does maintain and lock users from editing all the sensitive pages that deal with official information (example: Promotional box content and billing pages).
This rest of the wiki is primarily maintained by users contributing valuable code and images.
Personally, I'm not responsible for much, but you can blame [or thank] me for a couple things like restructuring alchemy lines into a fancy tree-like format with completely illegible code (You'd have to blame/thank Dracora-Speaking for documenting it for me).

:)

Well here is what im doing xD Im not responsible for the templates because i dunno much about wiki (im been learning this days) but i know about HTML because i work with it (in a basic way), for more complicate HTML i looked for examples, im not good if i have to create from 0 a code, at least one that looks good (like the gear list).

So im just copy the templates (i would like to give credit because in the english wiki, u can atleast see who was the last to modify the code but in the wiki/es would look like i did it because i create them xD but i assume people would know that the "original" wiki is the english one). But anyway, im coping the templates and traslate it, but not ALL XD i mean, u can imagine? The code works in english so things like "type", "ability" and etc, stay, and names of files too (like Cold_Iron_Vanquisher-Equipped.png) because i would never end, plus, much of the images (to not say all) have been updated like that, in the case of abilities's imagen, i do upload those, but with the same name as in the english's wiki.

The traslate i do with the code is, for example, in the weaponinfo, i added "espada" instead of "sword", because in the glacius's page (same for all sword's page) it said "The *pagename* is a SWORD of 5-star" and sword is linked, i did change the code so i can write "type: espada" and the page now said it completly traslate, but that make the code don't know the page was a sword and added "needs type" in the categories, so i went back and look for the part where the code recognize "sword" to make the category and change it to "espada", so now i can write "espada" and the categories appear good (like Weapons dealing normal damage, which i also change for "Armas con daño normal"). Thats is the traslate part i do, like the headers of the table like "damage table of *pagename" i change them to the spanish equivalent.

One of my problems so far is something like that but with the gear list. It appear "status: posion" so i change it for "status: veneno" and works fine, but the code doesn't recognize that it have to put the poison image, i try everything i could to make it work but couldnt find it, so i leave it like that xD is no big deal actually, people can click the word and will go to the veneno's page.... but the second problem it is annoying, when i click "show" it goes to the top of the page, i mean, it its really annoying in the aspect of travelling for the website. Thats what i tried to fix but nope, i have not see what is causing that in the code, like i said, i trough it was something i traslate and ruin it but, even changing the completly to english again, it still dont work.

That's its why i need help xD if u want to see what im talking about go to http://wiki.spiralknights.com/es/Divine_Avenger and (even if eveything is in spanish xD) it is the same as the english one. Clikc the show/hide in the table of dmg (Tabla de Daños del Divine Avenger, it says) so u will see it will go to the top of the page and the URL will have a # at the end. And if it doesnt happen and works fine, then tell me because it probably be what u said, that it took time to fix (because, right now, i have some problems with images that i re-upload and doesnt show properly, but i read that is common)-

OH and i clean cache in those page and still doesnt work, i cleared the cache in the browser and still. And about staff in the wiki, i saw just Clotho updating promotional boxes (like the peridot page) but just a few pages have "delete" in it and are still there. Like i said, i think the spanish wiki was not update since august 2013 xD

@ Cache

The wiki caches pages internally, and you don't have access to clear the wiki's cache. Thus, sometimes waiting fixes the problem. This is especially true with images, where they will normally take a week to show up correctly on pages.

@ Crediting the other editors

You'd be surprised how much content of the wiki is actually non-SK admin contributed. I don't think any one of the images on the divine avenger page you linked to were from SK staff (they only sometimes appear in the edits fixing tags for the images).

I'm not sure of the best way to do it. Personally, I would make a comment on any of the pages you copy and translate somewhere along the lines of...
[noinclude*]This content was taken from the english version of the wiki [permalink of the english page, not the most recent] on [date] and translated by [user][/noinclude*]

As of right now, it appears that you are taking other people's created and shared content and calling it your own.

*Edit:
The noinclude tag hides content from appearing on the wiki page, but is useful for communicating information with future editors. This will be useful for templates/included pages. HTML comments can be used as well (for pages that aren't templates). Alternatively, it might just be better to use HTML comments for all to be uniform.

disagree

The whole premise of the wiki is that no one owns any article (outside of user space). It's all shared.

You do not need to credit any specific editors. You also never get to call any wiki page "your own".

If you're going to do a direct translation of an English page, it might be helpful to note the date/version of the translated page. If anyone starts editing the Spanish page directly, then this gets hard to maintain, though.

i see

@Skepticraven

About the cache, then i guess i can't do anything but wait :(

And about the credit, I do want to credit, i mean i just want to traslate everything, not to make it see like im the creador of the idea/images/etc xD but i read the manual style (not all) in spiral and the wiki (no wikia, wikipeadia's manual of style) and it said u dont have to sign it because it is kind of disrecpectiful for others edits, but i add in others links, the link to the english version in (till now) all of the page i been editing. First time being editor, and im just doing it because... omg... u have to check the es/wiki, is horrible everything is broken, evertyhing is red links, no images of abilities, stats, equip, its just awful xD i couldnt resist it. Also because i want to create a user page and a guild's page in the english and spanish version.

P.D: is trias and novaster's admins?

@Bopp

So, it is okay if i dont credit? i mean, like i said to skepticraven, i add in all pages the english link (for credit's reason and because some ppl might want to see it) but it is my first time editing wiki and i dunno if what i am doing is good or bad or i dunno xD

And yes, im doing a direct translation of the english page but i dunno what u mean by "version" or where to add u, u mean like.... in the comment's when editing the page? or the page itself? i really doubt someone will want to edit the page, i mean, i have not see anyone editing so far xD (this year at least, without counting clotho the admin) and if they do, well, its everyone's web xD i did my best

look at Wikipedia

When you read a Wikipedia page, do you see who wrote it? No. Hundreds of people have edited it, and none of them gets credit (except on the history page, which most readers never see). Similarly, when you read a Spiral Knights wiki page, maybe 5 or 10 people have edited it, and none of them is mentioned.

By "version" I mean a specific version of the page, from a specific edit on a specific date. For example, here is a link to the Abilities page, but here is a link to a certain version of the page (after my first rewrite, on 2012 March 31). You can find these old versions in the history of the page, here.

Your questions are quite reasonable and not at all stupid. So ask more if you have them.

Heh, there may have been some confusion with my last comment, as the forum removed my "noinclude" tags. The idea was to have that statement hidden, but there if someone editing down the line was wishing to update it. I'll edit the post to have it shown as code to be viewable.

My suggestion is almost identical to Bopp's, only adding a note of who did the translation.

Are Trias and Novaster admins?
Nope.

ok!

Then i think i would add it but in the commentary, after i done editing and all i will add the date/version like: Fisnish traslating today (date) from (date/version) of english wiki. Or... the noinclude thing xD i dunno i will have to see which one feels better :). The only thing that i still need to fix is the table problem with the #, i google it and havent find anything xD. My hope is to be fixed in a week because it was a cache's problem.

Thx both for ur help! I trough i was doing something wrong doing it in this way xD
