Want to preview Accessories before buying? Try SpiralSpy!

Hi,
tired of buying a pig in a poke? Not sure if that new armor goes well along with your colors? Want to preview an entire set of gear, but unable to find a basil that has all of the recipes? Well, in this case, I have something for you:
http://www.onyxbits.de/spiralspy
SpiralSpy is a wrapper around the Modelviewer of the Clyde library, on which SpiralKnights is based. In other words: it allows you to assemble and preview the knight of your dreams in the color of your choice.
DISCLAIMER: SpiralSpy is neither endorsed nor supported by ThreeRings. It is provided as-is without any guarantees or warranties whatsoever (in other words: use at your own risk).

"Can anyone vouch for it's validity? (OTHER than the OP..)"
No worries, I won't vouch for anything (as implied in the disclaimer). I fully understand, that offers like this sound too good to be true (and most of the time they are. Hence: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK). However, if you want to make an informed decision about whether or not to trust Spiral-Spy, can give you the following pointers:
- I publish the application under my real name, which you can find in the website's imprint (for this reason, I do not post here under the name of my knight. I really don't want to get support calls in the middle of a run or angry emails from people, telling me how much I suck ingame).
- The sourcecode for SpiralSpy can be found here: https://github.com/threerings/clyde The only addition I made, beyond compiling the source and resolving dependencies, was a starter class (de.onyxbits.spiralspy.SpyApp) that does the configuring part. If you don't trust that class, you can still start the modelviewer manually.
- I also offer another application called ScenePainter (http://scenepainter.onyxbits.de) for Threerings's other game "Yohoho!Puzzle Pirates", which has been in good standing for years.

If ya'll want accessories and whatnot to be the current end-game content, you should either endorse a third-party viewer or make your own. Your average customer (and yes, I'm in the hole) won't have the time or resources to properly preview everything. If you would like to be awful, save the rarest.

I can vouch for the quality of the YPP application, and I'm glad to see you have crated something great for this game also. Thanks for both of them! ^.^

use noscript for firefox if thers suspicious links
thers a little something in the tos that makes me wana stay away from the tool itself tho
but to be honest im most likely not gona use any accessoiries without being able to preview them, its a pity löl

Or you could just go to any vendor that has the "Preview" option on their list and use that...

I'm gonna risk it... say, how would you do this with Steam?

Stupid me. Forgot to include a screenshot. Here is one:

I doubt the site requires any kind of log-in, guys. As far as any suspicious scripts I can tell you in a few for sure. I'm loading up a VM right now. :P
My paper-craft senses are tingling!
Any chance this will let us see the backgrounds in SK?

Very nice script, Spiral-Spy. I don't think this thread will last very long (not sure how the staff will welcome it), but I do appreciate it.

"My paper-craft senses are tingling!

I seem to recall a thread about papercraft. What was it about? Printing the models on papersheet, so you could fold them into real world 3D paperdolls? SpiralSpy is most certainly able to extract and display any model from the game (oh right, did I mention? You can have the chance to meet the tortodrone again!). I have no idea how to translate them to papercraft schematics, though. As for backgrounds: Thats a horse of an entirely different color. I have absolutely no idea how the SceneEditor is suppose to work.

Cool, nice. The best part is, if OOO complains (not that I'm assuming), then they'll get a whole crapload of people complaining about the AH not having a preivew.

As I said in my second post, I also offer another application which does something very similar as SpiralSpy. ThreeRings never complained about it and even gave me permission to use YPP artwork on my website. So I am in good faith that SpiralSpy will not be a problem either. I will, however, comply in case, Threerings requests it to be taken down.

Ah, I see! Well, I really do appreciate it, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see this used for the Wiki.

To be honest, I haven't the faintest clue. I am not a steam user. I would suggest searching your harddisk for a file called "projectx-pcode.jar" (thats the main part of the game). Drop SpiralSpy in the directory above it. Then doubleclick the jar.
PS: I only have Linux, so feedback from MacOSX/Windows users whether or not SS works on these platforms would be appreciated.

I'm on a 64-bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate and the client works well. The only problem I've seen is that any of the dropdown menus seem to completely break the UI. It's still usable, but it becomes a bit of a jumble.
Steam users (like myself) can plop the file in \Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\spiral knights

You mean the File, Edit and View menu? thats ok, you don't need anything in there (in fact, you are well advised to stay away from the Edit menu anyways. At best, your head will explode, at worst, you might have to redownload the game).
PS: Im currently logged in as "Spiral-Spy" in case there are questions.

Mac User here. First thing I noticed is that I can't get all of the buttons and whatnot to show up. I'll look more into it later.

Thats "normal". The controls panel grows dynamically in size as needed by the editor components. The split panel, however, does not automatically adapt to that. You have to drag the slider in the middle to the size of your liking.

For those who want steam path, mine is C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\spiral knights

No, I mean the style dropdowns. Screenshots incoming:
Opening the drop-down.
The result. Moving the mouse around uncovers the interactable objects, but causes more of a mess.

[No spoilers, please.]
I could try random mix all-day

Is this still in the virtual machine? The only thing, I can think of right now to fix it would be to force the panel to redraw be either iconifying the entire window or by moving the splitpane slider.

OMG THIS THE BEST THING EVER BETTER THAN A [frakking] DINOSAUR WITH LASER TURRETS !

"OMG THIS THE BEST THING EVER BETTER THAN A [frakking] DINOSAUR WITH LASER TURRETS !"
Yes ... and it even lets you view the tortodrone, which kinda is a dinosaur with laser turrets.

Working and safe in case anybody else is suspicious. Having some fun with it. A devilite with a vanaduke in the right hand and a tortodroen in the left one aw yeah.

@Goldmaker
Oh, btw. forum rules say something about not posting spoilers. Please don't ruin surprises by posting screenshots of yet undiscovered content.

While you guys ogle unreleased content, I'm going to update the Wiki. You're welcome.

I completely forgot how to search specific files, so I can't even get the folder.
Edit: Managed to get it open, so far no problems aside from my navigating skills lacking.

I spy shroomcap, katcap, and sleepingcap.
Edit: Oooh and other very interesting accessories I've never seen or heard of.
I like this thing. Good job Spiral-Spy.
Edit edit: Is there a way to zoom in?

Hello Spiral-Spy I'm using Steam and I have a problem. I put the jar file in the correct place ( D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\spiral knights ) but all I have is just 4 itemes for everything and weapons are not working at all here is a pic hope you can help me

can one of u guys who know how to nevigate this app update the accessories on the wiki

@Bedtimebear click the [model.dat] button and surf the folders

@Juances Idk what I do wrong or what is the problem but I clicked on that and there are 5 checked all and nothing got some new ones but max 5 helms

image: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/163/sinttuloryf.png/
after that just search random files(some dont work and crash for me)

And it finally gives me what I asked for about 3 months ago! Thanks Spiral Spy!

The VM has issues with the graphics driver, so this was on my Win7 software.

Well I started updating the auras on the wiki, but I only got on pic up, the other two aren't showing up for some reason.
Edit: Okay, I got the Halo's up and the rest of the aura's (although I don't know when they will show up, still haven't yet, but whatever).
Didn't make pages for some unmentionable helms though, as OOO has plans for them I presume, and I don't want to spoil anything for them/us.

COME AT ME BROS
[Yes, about that. No spoilers, please.]
And honestly - this tool is awesome, I saw that textures and names long time ago, but I didn't know how to wiev the models. Thanks!

It keeps asking me to put it in SK's directory files.
Since I use Steam, it should be program files/steam/steamapps/common/spiral knights
..but it hates steam apparently.
EDIT: Tired the commandline too. It closes cmd so fast, I can hardly blink.

Someone who has it working on steam should make a step-by-step guide for us all.

I have it working on steam, i explained it all i could.
i have win7, admin rights but not patience to explain anymore

Nicely done OP. For some time I wanted to make something similar, but got lazy with OOO's libraries. Mostly because compiling Clyde required compiling a lot of other libraries since they didn't keep the compiled releases and directories up to date.
I'm tempted to click the link, but it's so ---- suspicious...
Can anyone vouch for it's validity? (OTHER than the OP..)
