A small but important upcoming change to charge attacks

In a future update charge attack will be changing in a small but important way so I wanted to give everyone a heads up.

Currently when charging any weapon, taking damage results in losing some of your charge. Once your charge has hit max, it can further lose its charge if you take damage.

The upcoming change will result in the following:
- When charging any weapon and taking damage, you will lose part of the charge (the current behavior).
- When charging any weapon and hitting 'max charge' you can no longer lose charge by taking damage.

This means that once you hit max charge, you can hold on to it as long as you hold the charge and are still alive.

What this change does:
- Players who experience issues such as not placing bombs due to damage taken just before placing them will no longer have any issues of this kind. Once you see that you are at max charge, the attack is yours to fire.
- The risk/reward element of using a charge attack is retained as you can still take damage, however much of the frustration of losing it is removed, allowing you to 'brute force' a charge attack.
- PvP will obviously play out a little differently with this change encouraging more coordinated efforts to kill bombers instead of just dealing chip damage to them and interrupt them.

Overall this will be a positive change for the game, mitigating frustration and reducing latency issues.

As long as piercing swords

As long as piercing swords still have gun-like range and can finish before the strike due to latency or whatever, I am not sure if PvP will play out differently... but that's just me.

This is a very welcome and very simple change. But what do you mean "part" of the charge? I was certain being struck while charging negates the charge entirely.

Sounds promising.

While you are looking at bombing in PvP, might check out the RSS projectile issue. If your projectile hits yourself, a teammate or a dead body it'll stop prematurely.

diversity is the best part of pvp i think... the flourish/btb will still reign over this update, but this is def added strength to bombers

Shock ticks?

What about shock? The ticks make you flinch, how will this interact when you have achieved a max charge?

Will it be similar to when you're on fire in that you just receive damage? Will the knight stop, flinch (while holding it's charged weapon in position), then continue on its merry way?

This will be interesting when interacting with VT fields.

I'm trying to imagine how the knight will look when you receive a large knockback, such as a levi blade, or nitronome, or lumber/trojan smash.

I love it!

Anything that helps bombers is fine by me. (Not a bomber myself, but it does seem unfair that charge interruption is so much more a problem for them than the other two classes.)

This is how it worked before its current implementation; the problem was that you could get pecked by something and have to start charging all over. To make it more fair, they changed it so if you have charge, a hit takes you back to x%, and the base amount you fall back to progressively increases with each hit you take while continuing with that same charge.

love this change. I use FoV

love this change. I use FoV and it'll mean fire won't stop me from unleashing a second charge! With no CTR UV I could get the charge to light up, but couldn't unleash it reliably before the fire canceled it out. Now I can kill myself even faster!!

(seriously, I'm looking forward to this change)

This sound like a good

This sound like a good feature. Presently it's sometimes hard to see when you've reached full charge though. Perhaps the current weapon icon could change colour or get a little indicator light to unambiguously say "full charged", or even bar-graph that shows your progression to charge.

hmm

I think this is a welcome change, especially for bombs, but I feel like bosses should still be able to interrupt your attacks. Because, well, they're bosses. I know you would still take damage, but you should also have to charge up again (at least partially, as it works now).

A step towards noobs who couldnt avoid monsters while charging weapons?

This is pathetic, the part about "when reaching max charge you will no longer loose your charge".
The part about "you will loose only part of charge when hit" is somehow fine but the other change is just pathetic.

Don't think it'll affect me much, but it'll help in those lag-spike moments where you're about to unleash a charge and get hit sooner than expected. I like it :P Might just start playing LD more and spam bombs for the heck of it XD

@Asukalan: Your negativity never ceases to amaze me... I'd be long gone from SK if I were as frustrated/disappointed as you in the game.

For the Last Time, the Hammers aren't OPd. In T1, yeah, but it can be Fixed by making it 2*, like the Shadow Bomb.(Don't know why they haven't Implemented that, yet...) If you wear full Dusker & use Swift Flourish in T2, then...(Pic's being Stupid)

I think it's a good change

My first reaction was that the change would be OP in PvE. But then I realized that the change is necessary in PvP. Currently, few people use their charge attacks in PvP because they get hit first and lose their charge. Those that try to use charge attacks quickly learn to stop using them. To me, the change will affect PvE some, but that minor issue will be offset by the amount of fun and balance the change will bring to PvP.

I like it. (=

You've got the right idea. I love it when skolvers and duskers QQ at how OP the hammer is when they have zero elemental resist. That would be like me QQing how toothpicks are overpowered if I used elemental or shadow armor. But then again, haters gonna hate.
