I am continually amazed at the beautiful (ok, sometimes horrifying) and unique ways knights accessorize their gear. Crests are a nice little pop of color or a way to make a bold statement about your exploits in the clockworks. They would also be a great way to show a little guild pride and let everyone know what a great group of knights have banded together in your guild.

Your objective is to create a 2D drawing of a crest representing your guild. If you aren't a member of a guild, imagine your ideal guild and create a crest. Write a short (1-2 sentences) description of the symbols on your crest and include the name of your guild.

Deadline: Deadline for entries is August 20 at 11:59 PM game time.

Prizes: Winners will be able to pick between a 30 day elevator pass or a pocket monster (Chroma Whelp, Love Puppy, and Mewkat). The number of winners will be determined by the number of entries, but there will be at least 2 prizes awarded. Additional, smaller prizes may be give out if I feel moved.

Submission Guidelines:

- Create a 2D crest for your guild. Use can use any medium you would like - paint, crayons, pastels, artpad, or other digital art program.

- Take at least 2 photos/screenshots of the drawing. 1 should be of your work in progress. 1 should be of your final project and must include your knight name and the date it was completed in the image. This can be added on your art, or written on a card that is placed in the photo. Entries which do not have both the knight name and date of completion will be disqualified from judging.

- Host your photos online at a site such as imageshack or photobucket.

- Post your entry in the entry thread. http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/61353

- Your entry post should follow the template below below. (feel free to copy it and just fill in your info).

- You may only enter one crest, so if you make more than one, post your best or favorite.

- Deadline for entries is August 20 at 11:59 PM game time.

Q: Will these be added to the game in a future guild update?
A: No, these are just for fun.

Q: Any size restrictions?
A: Nope!

Q: Can I submit art I've already made?
A: No, for this event it needs to be original art that was created specifically for this event.

Q: Can I host my images somewhere else besides photobucket or image shack?
A: Yes, you can host your images anywhere that is convenient for you, as long as you can provide a direct link to your crest in your entry.

Will the user-made guild crest get incorporated into the game (if they give you permission to do it) with the guild hall update? Just wondering.

Also, How big it needed to be for the crest? (letter sized paper or no restrictions)

Question regarding the submission

One of our guild members actually a guild crest for us quite a long time ago but i dont think that she had a pic of the drawing process and such. So is it alright for us to submit the pic of the crest along with the name of the artist that drew it only?

Should these be the original crest shape, or can they be like the summer/winter crests too?

Should these be made as if they could be used ingame? (Like not super detailed/and will look good at smaller sizes)

QUESTION

Questiosn:
Can these be animated?
Can the 2D image be displayed on a 3D model for coolness?
Can we use existing assets or does it have to be 100% original?
Can I edit a crest texture from the game, view it on spiral spy and produce an animated gif of a knights going "thumbs up" for super coolnes?

I've updated the first post with info and some additional answers here:

These crests should be original art that was created for this event. Anything previously created should not be entered.

@Krakob - what do you mean by more information?

@Talagand - You can choose the shape of your crest. There isn't a size restriction, so you can make the crest as fancy or plain as you want. It doesn't have to be sized to fit in the game.

@Ein-Eagle-Vanato - If you are already in a guild, you can choose to create a crest for your current guild, or an imaginary one.

@Sergeantwrench - Yes, that is correct!

@Tantarian - No animation please. 2D only, no 3D this time. Please do not use any existing game files for this event. Of course, you can base your art on the shape and style of the game, but the goal is 100% original art please.

@Lightyourfire - it is fine if there is more than one entry for a guild. The only limit is one entry per person.

@Cobalt - I'm looking for original art here. If you feel you did enough work to make it new and original you can enter it or you can start from scratch with a new design (you have time!).

Question

Our guild logo is a very simple interwoven T+Z+0 thing (for Tier Zero), so I kinda got distracted after designing the basic crest.

Does it have to be truly original?

In my crest, I was planning on incorporating animation from the game (i.e. skolver, snipes, etc). For example, since Jempire is well known for LD, would it be okay to add images of LD into my crest?

@Jluna - The crest should be all original art. You can certainly be inspired by art from the game, but everything on your crest should be created by you.

@Sirlancer - I'm leaving the shape of the crest up to you - you can make it the same as the crests in the game, or be creative. Just as long as it resembles a crest of some sort. If you draw your crest, it does not need to be in color. Try your best to take a high quality photo!

@Lightyourfire You can use any technique to draw or create the crest as long as it is original art that you create.

@Benightz - For this event, just the crest please.

Redid my entry from heraldic banner to a steampunk crest

I wasn't sure if a large heraldic cloth banner that hangs outside some of the vendor shops was acceptable. So I totally redid my guild's heraldic banner into a crest a knight can wear. I included the old banner as part of the progress picture, since the new Obsidian Crest of Mack contains many of the design elements of the banner.

TheBadger field tested our new guild crest which includes a nano-tech state of the art surround sound system that plays Harry Mack game music. Ummm, something unexpected occurred. We seem to have attracted a strange Notable Lichen, Soul Jelly Harry. Harry has grown quite fond of the crest and music. We just can't shoo him away to get a clean shot of the crest. We did our best. Sorry.

I removed the knights, and only a dusker + Vanaduke is shown. Is that ok? The crest is mostly shown with a blue background.
