So with Windows 8 actually being released next week, when will we actually get support?

I know that OOO wasn't touching Win8 previously because of its prerelease status, so will that mean it will take some time to set things up, or might it be pretty soon?

I'd like an estimate, but an exact date would be pretty neat too if they've said anything about this already :3

Greetings,

Previously Windows 8 support was avoided since graphics drivers were not ready yet. At this point the dust has settled and Windows 8 support is good to go.

Spiral Knights will work on Windows 8 IF your graphics chip manufacturer is still providing full driver support.

This means that most recent systems will transition to Windows 8 and play Spiral Knights if you wish. However, there are a few incompatibilities to note. Some manufacturers are taking this release as a convenient time to halt support on older devices. While these devices will likely work for normal tasks due to Windows default drivers, lack of outside updates mean they have little or no OpenGL 3D acceleration functions enabled (critical for Spiral Knights).

  • Intel integrated graphics from before the HD 2000 will not work.
  • ATI parts from before the Radeon HD 2000 series will not work.
  • ATI/AMD parts from Radeon HD 2000 series to Radeon HD 4000 series need this special driver release.
  • NVIDIA GeForce 5 series (not the 500 series!) will not work.

If your current device is listed above and you enjoy playing Spiral Knights then upgrading to Windows 8 is not for you. There is nothing we can do at Spiral HQ to make these devices work better on Windows 8.

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

Even though one of our main computers is about to go windows 8 real soon, we have both Linux and a few other computers which it will work on. Therefor, I think I might be able to help test the Win8 compatibility. ^.^

And this is the only reason I'm excited about Windows 8. Forcing late adopters to upgrade.
