I'm not really sure if this has been brought up before, But it really sucks when you get down to a single digit amount of energy. You seriously can't do anything, But sit and wait for some small amount to regenerate. D:

Could we have some sort of fix for this?

I'm not really sure if you

I'm not really sure if you have noticed, but that's the whole point behind the Energy system. The whole game is free to play. The only "limiting" factor is energy. You can however buy more with in-game coins (Crowns), so 100% free play is possible.

As a side-note, try playing the game only until your energy is gone, and then leave your computer be for a day! If you spend your energy wisely, you'll only be playing a "healthy" amount of computer games a day ;)

To throw this in:

Devs have said the Energy system will get rebalanced later on. What we have now, is not final yet. It is possible that gate costs go down, regeneration rate goes up, or even your max pool of ME increases a little. So don't jump ahead on criticizing the energy system to death :P

It would at least be neat if ME's cap were raised so that you could take a break for a few days without wasting a bunch of potential ME.

Yes, I've suggested something like that aswell before. Being able to store some "extra" mist energy if you're offline for longer than 24 hours would be neat. And it would be a heartier welcome for players who have been away for a little longer.

Bolgron
Yush

That'd be good. Say 20% of your regeneration continues after you hit 100 ME. so after another day it'd be 120 ME, then 144 ME after 2 days, etc. Nothing big, but it's useful ^^ with 144 energy you could get from Haven to Emberlight presuming you don't die along the way.

Anyway, at lower depths Annabella, you'll find that gates take longer to complete. And you'll probably end up more satisfied by the end of them. I felt the same at the start. But it's a great limiting factor because it stops people from going, in a single day, from Haven to The Core. Which is entirely possible. Adds some progression in there.

ME's cap not only stops

ME's cap not only stops people from going, in a single day, from Haven to The Core - it also allows you to spend some quality time with children/spouse/GF/BF/parents, do chores/homework/earn a living, develope other hobbies (maybe more eyes friendly ones) and last but not least get some sleep. And that's a plus ;-D

May I remind you of that a run to Core with your friends will give you about 14 k crowns? Gates that have 9 floors will then cost you 90 energy to finish, and you can buy about 200 new energy from the market with the crowns you made. So I wouldn't say it's hard to get new energy :)

Also, think of it this way: if you know you're not going to play for a certain day, you can log on for two minutes, do some crafting, and bam! You've got a brand new 3 star item practically free.

It's a stupid business model.

It's a stupid business model. And a damn greedy one.

This game will not survive. If it does its fanbase will be an extremely small sect of big spenders like every single Korean game on the market the had paid advantages. The whole energy concept is ridiculously flawed.

Once people get sick of people who spend more money having more advantages, they will get sick of the game.

The people that pay more money should not get more advantages in the game. It's simply unfair.

Everyone should have the same chance to progress, no matter how much money they sink into the game.

They made an excellent game, but the payment methods are insidious.

If there is a just God, this game will die a swift death and no one will speak of it again.

This keeps being said, but

This keeps being said, but I'll repeat it again: The Dev's have said that at some point, the energy system will be rebalanced. With that information in mind, there is no need to be yelling out about it - the best thing we can do now is offer suggestions on how to improve or remake the system, because we already know its going to be adjusted.

As it is, the game drains energy quite fast. There are some days where I feel like playing tons, and some where I just want to play a little. If I don't use all of my ME before my next play time, essentially I'm "wasting" potential playtime. And if I use alot of my energy, I find myself having to limit my other play sessions just so that I have enough to play on other days or even just craft. I don't like either of those aspects... I feel I should be able to play much more for the amount of money I spend.

@Evolution: I don't like that take, personally. I feel that I should be able to play when I want, and however long I want - I don't ever want a game telling me when I should stop or shouldn't be playing, because that is just bad business for both sides. Obviously I'll have to put in some money, but the current system consumes so much energy that if I wanted to play several hours everyday, I might have to spend upwards of $30 a month (if not more when I'm crafting).

Agreed

thats somthing I can agree with the system as it is so far is draning to much energy sure you can buy more but then this game might as well not be free to play. what I say should be added is a item mall so players can buy boosted craft items and equipment ect. and lower the cost of energy useage or get rid of it all togeather. OR just create armor that boosts the amount of energy you get sure they can be rather pricey i supose but atlest there a change at a free way for geting more energy i could live with that to.

and though I like how the game is now i get alittle sad when i see theres no lvl system but I can always get over that.

Bolgron
Erm...

Well tbh, I always saw this game as a side-game. I play it with a couple of friends of mine for a bit of an extra social bit after college. We have a b**** about people and discuss what we'll be doing the next day, and all the while avoiding boredom with smashing our way through monsters. We play it as a social thing, not as a competitive game. There's healthy competition for drops, trying to cheat the Round Robin system for a laugh but nothing big. The energy system as it currently is, is PERFECT for that we get at least 2 subtown runs done, just paying for energy after the first run with the crowns we've got. If you wanna play games longer, why don't you play another when your energy runs out, it comes back after a DAY. Not long to wait really. Personally I go and take a walk with my dog for a while, come home, and spend some time with my family.

You don't have to BASH this game. By bash I mean play it so you're at the top of the leaderboard after a mere days play. It's nice to do it gently. If you do want to bash the game, I think it's reasonable to pay for it.

Reason Why Energy Is Needed

The game developers cant work for free so they do need energy buying players to help pay their own bills in life. I have to admit three rings is really smart and nice giving players 100 energy every day because they are allowing you to still play the game to its fullest. I think energy is needed only because it helps make this game a lot more harder. You have to manage how much energy you spend, which items to buy etc.

Cactuscat's picture

The fact for me remains that

The fact for me remains that it is still too much of a drain, as is. I don't like spending my Crowns on Energy, because that is what I used my own real cash for. But the amount I spent and the amount of gameplay it actually has given me does not compare to the standard free-to-play or subscription MMO's out there.

@Bolgron: That is perfectly reasonable to play that way; but don't expect that everyone else to play that way as well.

Just an Idea

From what I am told and noticed they changed the rate of crowns and heat given each run I would just suggest to higher it again like before so all of these problems would disappear.

1. Keep things like alchemy,

1. Keep things like alchemy, rezes, certain doors costing energy.
2. Make gates cost 0 energy instead of 10 (or at the very least make them cost 5 energy).
3. Add a cash shop where you spend energy for various items.
4. Have people realize that a cash shop is better because you can spend your energy how you want and you would still get mist energy.
5. Also have people realize that relying on the market to get energy is not reliable and at times could make it so you can't play continuously like you can now.
6. ?????
7. Profit.

Polantaris

Personally

The only problem I personally see with the Energy system so far is
A) The Cost of Gates. 10 Energy is way too much.
B) The Cost of Alchemy in general. I logged in the other day, made myself a one then two star bomb, and instantly my Mist Energy was gone. In 5 seconds. 50 Energy for an item? That's way too much. And it wasn't even a high level item! Two stars, 50 energy. What's three stars? 100? Four is 200? I mean gimme a break that's way too much.

If the general costs dealing with Energy went down, I think the whole system would do a lot better. Item crafting should cost 10-20 at most, 20 for the high level items, and gates should cost only about 5, maybe that starter 3 for the Tier 1 areas. Why 3? Because at Tier 1 you don't get nearly the crowns you need to make up the 80+ it takes to traverse the entire thing. I'd be surprised if I got 2-3k Crowns from an entire Tier 1 run.

The game is advertised as free, and you can't do that with the current Energy system. When you advertise the game for free, people will (especially younger people who cannot pay for a lot of extra Energy) take it that way. Then, they will play for an hour, and once they leave the tutorial they will notice the costs in terms of Energy. 10 a floor, 10-50 an item...and they will instantly realize...Free? My ass it's free. Because it's not. And then they will quit because they don't have the money to put into the game because they are too young to have a job, and their parents won't pay for them. You'll lose players for more than just that. You'll lose the players who go "I need a free game to play!" See Spiral Knights, then try to play it, then go "I don't have the money to pay for this!" and leave there, even if they are older. The game NEEDS to be able to work on the Mist Energy system if players want to work that way. It's perfectly fine to require players to pay more if they want to play for long periods of time, however the casual player cannot play without paying either, and that's where the game will fail in the end.

I like the ME system limiting

I like the ME system limiting free play. It makes sense. It whets the appetite of players who will want to buy to play more. Currently everything is possible via crowns since you can buy energy from the market. Things will be a lot cheaper when the game is released, too. I think they need to have it regen quicker and lower costs, and I'm sure they will do it before release. Remember this isn't even the full game - it's closed beta.

If the only thing they do is

If the only thing they do is increase the max ME you can have, at least make it 300, so that you can craft anything without being a paid customer. If you're a free player, you won't make a lot of crowns since you can't really go down fast, and as a result it's impossible to even get to Tier 3, which I think is a bad idea to insist the game is also Free. You can't say a game is free but meanwhile lock half the game from free players.

More Three Rings ass kissing.

The model is HORRIBLE.

It might as well be a subscription based game with a free trial. You can't call a game "Free to Play" and then shoehorn this manipulativew payment system into the game.

People who pay more money get less grind? This game will be dead within the year.

Reitrenner.... Go complain about this to other games...

"MapleStory, the ultimate *FREE* massively multiplayer online role-playing game" - Cash Shop
"RuneScape, the world's most popular *free* MMO" - Subscriptions
"Wizard 101, Create your Wizard here and play for *free!*" - This game is barely free... go there since you love to complain
etc...

Go away, all you ever do here is blab about the energy system, if you don't like it, go cry. They aren't going to get rid of the system any time soon, so why bother...

With that potty mouth, you will get no where!

a solution

i have a couple of solutions.
1 increase the ME meter by a small amount.
2 using crowns (around 1k) you can buy another slot for you to absorb ME in example.
by paying the amount of crowns you can increase the capacity of ME you can absorb so that you can absorb more while you arent playing.
but im not saying this last forever, maybe it could last longer for how much you pay?
3 when you arent playing you can still absorb ME but the ME you absorb while you already have like 100 full is locked up and can only be unlocked if you pay crowns, of course the price you pay should be nothing like the CE at the market.
4 when dungeoning you could recieve some type of energy that acts like mist energy.
example
theres already CE & ME, CE being the one you can sell and store up alot more. and ME being the one you can store up to 100 only and cant be sold.
this type of energy can be used only in dungeons for the reviving cost of a player. just like ME this energy cant be sold and you can only obtain this energy in the clockworks by killing a monster and it may drop a max of 5 or if u open a red chest you can pick them up.
just like heat and crowns they are shared among the team. the looks of this dropped energy can look exactly like heat but blue or something. and we can save up to a unit of 1000.
anyone likes my idea?

Okay, I generally like the

Okay, I generally like the energy system. Obviously, numbers need to be tweaked a bit (regeneration rate, mist energy cap, elevator costs, etc), and it's great to read constructive comments about how the numbers could be shifted to make the game better/more fun.

However, I don't understand the forums that complain because paying customers get less grind than non-paying customers.

Axiom: Some people have to pay money to 3-Rings or the game shuts down.

Axiom: No one will give 3-Rings money unless they get something in return.

Conclusion: The game will shut down unless 3-Rings rewards players who give 3-Rings money.

Therefore, if you don't like that 3-Rings is giving people less grind in exchange for money to run the game, please be constructive and suggest what 3-Rings should give to players to entice them to fund the ongoing operation of the game.

Personally, I like the idea of giving players less grind (faster trip to the Core) in exchange for money. Now maybe currently the trip to the Core takes too long for Free-to-Play players and that's something that be fixed as players provide productive feedback. But in general, I feel that my ability to enjoy the game is not harmed by someone else getting to the Core faster than me, which seems to make this a good business model for Spiral Knights.

I'm gonna be honest here.

I'm gonna be honest here. The energy system is way overboard to a certain degree. It's fine if you need energy to adventure. That is ok with me. But what I can't stand is that lately, all I do is login for 1 minute, craft a 100 energy 3 star item. Then I am done for the rest of the day. I spend more time playing a flash game on facebook then Spiral Knight.

Right now, the game caters to people who already with 4 star+ gear and are in tier 3 dungeons. They can just plow through some floors and make enough money to buy a lot more energy then they spent. Anyone else not in tier 3 dungeon yet will have a hard time getting anywhere unless they pay real money. I also believe this is the biggest reason for decline of players.

Those just starting the game are still fine since many 1 star equipment only cost like 10 energy. But everyone else in between... don't even get to play half the week. I do understand the argument that 3ring needs money, but the current system is excessive and will only drive away players stuck in the tier 2 dungeons.

hmm

theres no actual problem with the energy system as long as they remove it from using it for the ability to explore the game, how would they expect us to test for bugs if we're only on for about 1-2 hours a day? its not enough.
it would be a perfect system if it was used for alchemy only, because i know they limit the gameplay for people to enjoy life more, but what about the average hardcore gamer like me?
Im currently not in school until September and i cant find a job atm, so right now I just stay at home and wait for my ME to refill so i can play for an hour... seems kinda ridiculous, like someone mentioned earlier, they should just keep the energy for more powerful cash items and alchemy, im sure they will make alot more money that way, and more players whereas they gotta pay to play for longer then a hour, thats just a huge turn off for me,
anyways, whats this about trading crowns for ME? never seen/heard about this? how do I do this and what are the rates of exchange on them?

mlepinski

@Nakurai There is a merchant

@Nakurai

There is a merchant due North of the Entrance to Haven, just North of the Town's center square. He allows you to trade Energy for Crowns or vice-versa. The exchange rate changes over time based on demand. (The more players who want to buy Crowns [get rid of energy] the lower the exchange rate goes, the more players who want to buy Energy [sell crowns] the higher the exchange rate goes.)

I think they need to do something to advertise this merchant a little bit better.

Well normally people should

Well normally people should be curious enough to check every shop but I agree the game should point to the most vital parts of the game like for example, clicking the big blue button at the bottom right where it shows your energy brings you to the energy exchange also, even in dungeons. tl;dr

I feel that while more mist energy would be good, 300 would be an excessively large amount. The only reason I say this is because 300 ME a day would completely detract from the goals of a business, to make money. In this case, 300 ME a day would be able to last me for several trips through tier 3's of gates. To be able to get to the point of where you have solid armor and weapons (while still playing under the "I don't want to pay" policy), it takes a while. But its certainly obtainable. I understand that the whole, increase the ME argument is most likely due to crafting costs (which I agree should be lowered by at least a third). The majority of 'complainers' seem to be those new, that either don't want to pay or are the "i want 5* everything RIGHT NAO SO GIMME OR I DONT PLAY." Give it time, this game has a solid foundation.

hey

why dont you people just buy elevator passes then there is such little need of energy for 30 days its a pretty good solution and its only 5.95$ per month so its pretty much the answer to this and if your like 11 threw lets say 14 then just do house work or neighborhood work for fast money
