Is this normal? For people to just throw you random friend invites or guild invites without asking you or talking to you first?

I go AFK in Haven quite often, and when I come back I usually have a mix of two or three guild or friend invites waiting from me. Invites to guilds I've never heard of from people I've never talked to, and friend invites from complete strangers that I've never talked to before.

Maybe it's just me, but I think this is bad etiquette. If you want to be friends with someone, if you want someone to join your guild, you should get to know them, talk to them, do stuff with them, etc. It just seems all the random invites and friend requests I get from people I've never seen before is a bit shallow, and doesn't reflect well on the community.

Yep.

I get about 3-4 guild recruits a day, even while recruiting for my own guild :/. Plus, lower rank knights send friend requests, with comments such as "vana plz", "give me money". I try just to hide sometimes :P

In haven, you often find more guild/friend invites than crowns and heat. The only depth that is worse than haven is the lab, where you often get nothing whatsoever.

I too also get lots of random requests. I guess people think that the more random invites/requests they send the more likely it is at least ONE person will accept.

Yes, friend requests/guild invites are normal. I just wait the 30 days for the mail to be removed :) Sometime I accept though.

Welcome to Haven.

Believe me, that is completely normal. Being guildless forever has made it rather humorous when people randomly invite me to their guilds. It's usually nice when they ask "Fangel, why aren't you in a guild?", but not so nice when they assume my answer isn't correct because they're in a guild. :I

I almost never delete any mail that comes to my knight, so I could look over the past 30 days and count all the various invites I've gotten. I think I may go do that real quick.

20 friend invites, 11 guild invites. I haven't been playing too frequently this past month either. Most of these are from idling in Haven too.
People are social, especially in a social game.

Yeah, but people tend to be too social for my tastes. I've only had one guy pm me asking if I'd like to join their guild, and when I declined, he was okay with it and didn't send me an invite. Sadly that's only one guy in about 9-10 random invites.

You are experiencing a PICNIC ERROR!

It's doubly funny for me, being a guild master 'n all.

I don't send out random invites, though. That honor only goes to people who engage me in a...

Well, if that's the criteria for joining your guild, you can challenge me to a game of intellectual wits, but be warned, you will lose. =)

I tend to ignore most friend requests and continue to be my jolly random self, if they manage to stay alive on a difficult mission and are making an effort to be friendly then I may add them as a friend, if they screw up on an easy part or don't talk at all then I figure they just want someone to carry them along.

There must be something wrong with me.

Doesn't matter if you are a popular player or someone who just started, everyone gets these messages but me.

I very rarely get a friend request by standing around in Haven. Sometimes I got a Guild invite or two, but those stopped immediately once I joined one I liked. There must be something about me that people just don't like...

Well, at least my mail is clean. So keep up the good work everyone!

Usually, if someone joins me in the first 2-3 depths of my run and manage to not die by the time we get to either Moorcroft Manor or the T2 Terminal, then I friend them. It's not that difficult to stay alive in T1 (unless most of the depths are Fiend themed), so if someone does die, no friend request. This also applies in boss missions, except replace "not die" with "survive at least the boss". This means you Can die, just don't stay dead when the Royal Jelly dissolves or the Roarmulus Twins kill each other.

OP: It's called invite for a reason. May be they inspected your character and found you worthy of joining their ranks. Since its an invite, you can always reject. I do agree that spamming guild invites is wrong and sending invites to people who are already in guilds seems a bit awkward but there are many who are not in guild and can try out the experience in different guilds through invites.

PS: Hey it don't cost you crowns or energy to get invites or to try out a guild if you are guild-less.

Revives, Sparks of Life, Corpse Repossession, etc. That last one is a neat little trick I've yet to master.
