Need some advice - Time to quit?

So I've reached a point in the game where I'm feeling like I've done it all.

I only play maybe once or twice every 3 months or so, if that. I only play with one of my friends and neither one of us is really "in to it" any more.

We've done everything in the game at least once and seem to be out of content. I know this game has been around a very long time, will it continue to be around?

I have some really nice equipment I could sell and then turn that currency to other games I do play more often, but I guess I don't really need to if the game is going to stick around a long time such that it would be worth holding on to my goodies.

What should I do?

The best advice? Go play something else. Come back when this game has content that revives that spark you had when you first started playing. If nothing happens, keep the door closed.

I don't know. Just keep your account and leave everything the way it is? Also, don't listen to those, "Can I have your stuff" comments.

I know that feeling!

Well, to be honest, I have felt like quitting this game a few times, but I have one piece of advice. Try to find something (anything) in the game that you find interesting, whether it be wanting to build a costume, liking to do challenge runs, or even just chatting with friends.

I actually stick around Spiral Knights for those three reasons.

My verdict: Take however many breaks you need until you find something to do in the game, but don't sell your items. If you find something interesting (new content or otherwise) and don't have your gear anymore, wouldn't it suck to have barely anything to get started from again? Don't ever quit the game completely; always keep an eye on it in case something interesting comes along.

agree

Go on hiatus, but keep your characters. Return when there are truly new weapons to try, new monsters to beat up, new bosses to vanquish, etc.

As far as I can tell from the people I know, this is how many veteran players handle this game. They enjoy each brief return, because it reminds them of whatever they found delightful: the art, the devilite humor, the weapon mechanics, the friends, etc.

The thing getting me down

The thing getting me down most is the cash-cow nature, or feeling thereof, of this product.

I'd like to go into detail, but please don't take it as an attack or a personal affront to the game you all obviously love very dearly. I too have enjoyed my time here, I'm just troubled in feeling like my time may be up. This is merely a summary of my feelings and I beg you to help me change my mind about it.

Please note I said "product" earlier, and not "game". I am absolutely in love with this game's potential, but the best way I can describe my feelings about it currently is that it's "in the wrong hands". This game has so much charm and appeal, but in the end it's abundantly clear that it's all about the almighty dollar and nothing more.

I've played games kept alive by micro-transactions before but this one just makes me feel dirty. From the pitiful drop rate of critically-important crafting materials to the persistent and annoying projectile lag, virtually everything I do makes me feel strangled (even bullied) into striving to buy energy.

I started only about a year ago and back then they offered deals where you could purchase Energy and got some free prize boxes along with it. Nowadays the prize boxes are purchasable by themselves. Just a straight-up cash grab (and such a frighteningly high price!) for a box that could contain, at best, a cosmetic item that has zero impact on the game whatsoever. Is this something that comes and goes during "lean months"?

To me this game is like meeting a beautiful girl who seems to be really interested in you and has a few important things in common, but all she ever does is demand you buy her things and you're pretty sure she's just in it to get citizenship. You want it to work, so badly, but you just can't trust her.

Can anyone help me not feel this way?

Well the problem is that

Well the problem is that everything revolves around the dollar. OOO answers to SEGA and has to meet a bottom line for them.
I find that while the drop rates of orbs are fairly low, if you find the right arcade gates you will have a great chance of getting what you need. If there are arenas in stratum four, I will grind there for a while because I can get elite orbs quickly. Eternal orbs aren't a concern for me since I already have too many.

Prize boxes being purchasable alone is what they did to stabilize the market. Back when you got energy with the prize boxes the promotions would cause massive fluctuations in the market, and I believe it made them a bit less special. Now when promotions come around, prize boxes only instead of with energy helps preserve the market unless the promotion is in insanely high demand, like the Rose Regalia one we just had. Energy took a sharp rise during the event because the items are that high in demand.

The promotions help OOO meet their bottom line to SEGA and give their employees salary. In addition, the promotions are mainly work for the art team, which takes no time away from the coders trying to fix/update the game.

I can't make you NOT feel that way, but here's a TL;DR of what I said.

1: All games revolve around the dollar. This game does it with cosmetics, which I feel is a respectable way.
2: Crafting materials have a low drop rate, but remember that the cost of buying orbs is exactly identical to the crafting costs before there were orbs.
3: To find the crafting materials more easily, have a look through the Arcade.
4: Separating boxes from energy stabilizes the energy market. For the first time in 18 months, in July, I had seen the CR/CE trade ratio at about 6500CR per 100CE.
5: You aren't required to buy the boxes. You said they contain a cosmetic item that has little impact, but some people are costume builders (like me) where it has a big impact for them.
6: Promotions are planned ahead of time, and the Rage promotion actually had content planned to come with it, but the content had to be delayed for whatever reason.

now it's the same

Now your thread is the same as all of the other "I'm unhappy with the trend of the game" threads. So I'm done here.

If you enjoy the game, then play it. If you don't, then don't.

I'm on a hiatus basically

I'm on a hiatus basically until actual content is added in the game, I, like you, have done everything there is to see and do, and when you've done them more than a 100 times, it gets boring and repetitive, what I did is find a game that grabs your interest and can hold you for the time being until OOO releases actual content, no, promos don't count now get that out of your head, OOO will see my money when ACTUAL content is in. Content is permanent, not event, reskins, or anything you've done in the game more than 20 times.

Well, OOO needs to make money somehow. And as much as I despise their way of cashing in on the fan base, some desperate measure must be taken to keep this game alive, again, OOO will only have themselves to blame when they shut down the server, not us. One's demise, is always one's own making.

I haven't been playing SK for 3 months now, what did I play in this three months you say?

Just check out this bad boy, you know you are jelly :)
