Just be patient. I am patient and you don't see me saying the game is dead and complaining about all those endless promo going about.
Besides OOO has a small team after all. :)

Just pray EA doesn't ever buy out OOO or else DLCs, DLCs everywhere.

It saddens me to see people downright refusing to play the Arcade. Even though it's an even better payout than FSC or Lockdown or whatever the hell players do on SK these days. Plus, it's more of a challenge since you need different armor types to protect against different damages and status effects rather than Skolver everywhere.

In 70 years, in my death bed,
In 70 years, in my death bed, my final wish is going to play Spiral Knights one more time. I'll join in, every haven is empty, nobody doing any missions, or any arcade runs. The auction house is completely empty, aside from a few featured items, none of which have any bids. I notice a pair of divine valkyrie wings, with very short time left. I bid one crown, and sure enough, I win the auction. I go to equip the wings, and the moment I do, I examine my character.
It looks great along with the divine veil. Suddenly, a pain in my chest, the heartrate monitor is going off. The last thing I see is my character, standing alone in Haven 1. Then all is black.
Shortly there after, someone joins in, wondering what such an ancient game is like. All they see, is my character in Haven 1, in the idle pose, divine wings and halo, before I finially get logged out for being idle.
Now I'm sad

You know, I think really we're more in a vegetative state than dead.
The game isn't going to "die", because there are a slow trickle of updates that pump life into it and a dedicated set of players that defend the game and spend money on promotions religiously-- this at least keeps it somewhat profitable, even if barely (we don't know).
At the same time, steam statistics tell us that the game isn't growing or even really going anywhere. Players peak every time an update comes out, and then die down after two months for the next year or so until the next update comes.

Its not a big surprise that every time when this kind of threads come people bash you in to the corner with a group.
What they don't realize is that the game itself had a whole year and in that whole year the updates that were released are mostly promotions.
These players get so easy satisfied yea they released new tortoguns big deal how long did it take to get those guns in the game.
Its this community that prevents the game grow because instead of complaining they just want new promos and OOO gives it to them. And therefore this game won't grow that fast.

You know, I'm starting to like these threads. They feed my constant hunger for entertainment, and salt. The problem is that they usually only give me one or the other.
As for your question: No. Spiral Knights is not dead, just at a gigantic wall of which it has not yet been able to climb. It will either reach the top or fall off. But we will not know which will happen until it does.
