In terms of pure elemental damage pulsar guns, are Wildfire and Polaris equal in base damage?

The damages are identical.

The damages are identical. The difference lies in their status. Fire means Wildfire has a higher overall damage, shock means that Polaris is safer and has more crowd control ability.

yes, but

Basically Keepscaite is right, but one should keep in mind that shock damages nearby monsters, while fire does not. Therefore shock can actually out-damage fire, when used on tight crowds.

Not that pulsars are good at

Not that pulsars are good at keeping tight crowds, unless you are well coordinated with your team at least.

quite true

That is quite true and relevant. I guess I was just trying to head off a simplistic characterization of fire vs. shock damage in general.

The Fire status does make

The Fire status does make knockback reliable, something that Shock can mess you up with is timing and distance when things don't move the way they should. Fire may have less damage output for FSC but that reliability can be nice.

Freeze on a pulsar is the middle ground you know when things can't move but that also means you are missing out on status DPS, still for shadow weak monsters there is no better pulsar.

And we have to ask.... is the Supernova Dead? not completely, but it will fade even further from popularity (is still holds a niche spot as a Tortodrone fighting gun.)

Supernova's damage was not reduced as much as Polaris was. Only the expanded shot damage was decreased and not as much, it still does more damage against neutral targets.
