i have heard too much people complaining about this game and they still playing it.
so what im doing hear is to hear your reason for playing this game. i ill start by myself for sure. my answer have 2 points the 1st is: Uurriieell. 2nd is: LD.
and yes Uurriieell is a name of a player who played with me since(2011) my start (best friends) :D.

Family bonding and all that. It's a light mmo - in some ways similar to zOMG (RIP) - that I can play with my kids. We can have a lan party in the basement, and the daughter at college can join in.

I keep playing because I want ALL THE STUFFS. Only for the reason that they look so pretty/awesome that I want to keep playing to get them. Of course there is the Radiant problem, but meh to that. I care about the looks of gear which keeps me coming back.

I originally started playing because I needed a distraction from my terrible life. Kept around for the cool people and the addiction of trying to craft everything. Nowadays I don't play as much but my plan is to ride this out to the end even tho its become a bit stagnant, plus Im curious to see what this game still has to offer.

It's just fun
The game itself is pretty much a filler game for me now at least. If I'm not doing something else and I want to do something I'll start up Spiral Knights. It's fun on its own too, but a few other games have my attention right now so I'm catering to them.
But Spiral Knights has also bred some great friends, so I like to stick around for them. :)

I Love the game too much to leave it just like that. been playing for almost 4 years (it will be official 4th year in april)
over the corse of time, iv done many things, made many friends and i became a Mentor.
basicly what i do is i take new players and help them around the game, teach them, advice them, assist then and bring them to the ranks of vanguard.
i have been Mentoring people for about 3 years or so.. so i cant just simply leave them. im still needed...

I'm also living with mental illness- not Bipolar Depression, but something similar in some ways, and I do use SK for escapism sometimes. For me it also involves playing and talking about the game with some one who also enjoys SK, since it's a way to simultaneously indulge in geekery and take a break from seriousness and gravity. There are other aspects of the escapism, but I feel that I whinge and whine about my stoopid life more than enough, so bleh.
I also sometimes like to wail on monsters to vent frustration.
I also like the refreshingly bright and unique setting, rich with adorable and absurd things. Jellies are delightfully alien and jaunty, an impressive pair of traits to combine, and their extreme simplicity makes it all the more impressive for its elegance. Kats, Wolvers and Chromalisks are much more familiar, but they're all so adorable I can't help liking them, and the Chromas' status variants strike me as rather clever allusions. Alchemers are IMO among the most memorable fictional weapons I've seen, seemingly clumsy and random chaotic things while at the same time very finesse-oriented, at least by standards of comparison with other weapons in the same game. Sudaruska/Triglav is my new standard for "epic fantasy sword," so full of light that it's swung about like a little maul, warpick or similar.
I also want to have "that poncho from Fistful of Dollars," with those ridiculous SPACE SPURS (on Spiral Knight hooves...) and quick-swap cylinders.

Simple
I want to get everything that i can buy with in game currency when it comes to gear and feel like a top player. When i mean top, i mean having every piece of 5 star gear out there or 4 star if there is no 5 star for that line. So yeah pretty simple, just gotta spend 100,000 american dollar equivalent of time in the game to get everything, i'm half way there ;) wink. Still, spending 3 years in this game makes it the longest i have played any mmorpg.

I still play every now and then because I don't want the 3k+ hours that I spent on SK to go to waste. That said, I'm gradually playing less anyway because of how boring the game feels after learning every level well enough that I can just auto-pilot the whole game.

when im bored from playing SK i quit it for a week to month :P try that when you back you will find it pretty fun. also you can delete your main send cr to new alt but this alt quit the alt remake the main and have fun :P (my story in short way XD) @arilys

I already suffer enough lag during PvE. PvP is just me getting killed before other players even get near me on my screen, in LD.
(Also, being bad at Bomberman, I really suck at BN :p)

Last year I stopped playing for about 3 or 4 months. When I became active again (which was a week or two after the Gunner Update) I felt just as bored after doing only two levels in the Arcade.

I also tried that. Didn't work. Guess I'm just too bored with SK right now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Heck, I only bought 1 Weapon Slot when I started playing again because buying the second weapon slot + trinket slots just feels like a waste of CE.
Thanks for the suggestions anyway, though. Just because they don't work for me doesn't mean that they won't work for other people :p

I played because I had a real-life friend who played. He got bored, I joined a guild. Guild fell apart, I joined another guild, THAT guild fell apart, and all of my new online friends gradually stopped playing due to gameplay-stagnation-induced boredom.
I myself am on indefinite hiatus and just decided to read the forums due to boredom with my other games, as well as what I believe to be a masochistic form of nostalgia.
So, there's my Spiral Knights life in a nutshell.

While I haven't been playing much, per see, when I played a lot, it was because I loved the art and the world and all that. The steampunk feel is unique. I also like the gameplay, because it isn't too heavy and involved, and you also don't have to do any silly waiting for this or that. (Oh, and I loved my guild. I stopped playing as much when my guild went under. I'm still a part of that guild.)
Back when mist was a thing, I liked it for that, too. The energy system was pretty well done, as far as energy systems go.
I've mostly moved on, but I still hang on the forums because I am making a fan game. (And dropping a project is a bad omen among game makers!) Because of that, I do log in sometimes. Sometimes I go on a playing spree and play the game for a week or something.
I'm playing SK because I like the not so grim-dark-as-LOLWoWCoD mmo but still has good artistic design and gameplay.
I'm also playing because at heart I like the simplicity of the game mechanic hack and slash with a shield.
I'm also playing because I dream someday I'll invent a game like SK that will blow it out of the water and isn't defined by MMO gambling aspects that plague even SK to this day.
