A little help with gun choice.

Hey guy. First of all, sorry if i write anything wrong, english is not my first language.

Now to the question.
I played SK a long time ago, didn't play that much because the energy system annoyed me and because I didn't followed the patches I only discovered that they removed the energy to use elevator some weeks ago.

I have the basic knowledge of the game mechanics. (Damage type, forge and crafting, etc)

Decided to make a gun + bomb buid. I liked and intend to use Ash of Agni/Voltaic Tempest later on but don't really know what the best gun to use with.
I know a lot of you probably are going to sugest the Alchemer line, but I have a problem with those guns.

- I don't have a really good connection (it's playable but I have some lag spikes from time to time) which makes a bit hard to use the main mechanics of the alchemer (aim to ricochet and switching for DPS)
- I play mostly solo (becaouse I'm kind of a lone wolf and my time schedule doesn't match well with my friends + they didn't like the game that much either) so guns with knockback are not that big of a problem

Considering that: What guns do you suggest to use with Ash of Agni/Voltaic Tempest?
I imagine a piercing and a shadow one, as bombs already covers elemental damage but I dunno. have seen some people suggesting polaris...

Welcome back to the game. Your English is quite good. Thank you for mentioning that you know the basics. Then we don't have to tell you a bunch of stuff that you already know.

First idea: If you view yourself mainly as a bomber, and you just want a gun for emergencies, then consider Valiance. It is really boring, but the damage is not terrible. The non-normal blasters are also fine, but normal is a sensible choice for an emergency sidearm. Most importantly, even the regular shots do knockback, even at close range (unlike pulsars). That could be useful in emergencies.

Second idea: If you want to do extreme damage by combining your bombs and gun, then consider Blitz Needle (or other autoguns). When a monster is about to shock-spasm from your Voltaic Tempest, unleash a Blitz charge to kill it and everything around it.

Ash of Agni is also a great bomb, but it purely does damage, so it doesn't make particularly interesting combinations with other weapons. And it's a little redundant with Voltaic Tempest. Consider a vortex bomb, for an even more interesting combination. Or consider Dark Briar Barrage or Dark Retribution or Nitronome, if you want to do serious bomb damage sometime.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I think i wasn't really clear typing "Ash of Agni/Voltaic Tempest" I'm not going to use both, I intend to use Voltaic Tempest against fire immune enemies and Ash of Agni against enemy or levels which shock isn't good (quicksilvers, etc).

I'm actually more of a gunner although I'm having quite some fun with bombs. Have been using both with almost same frequency.

I was indeed thinking about autoguns but don't know if they work as main weapon (i guess i can get the hang of it with some practice)
About the blaster line, it's sure a bit boring but for me it's have been working pretty well. I was thinking about the pierce or shadow version but I guess there's weapons of that damage type that can do better.

And about pulsars? People say the knockback is annoying for a team, but i'm playing more solo soo...
magnus? I heard a lot about Callahan and Winter Grave, are they worth investing?

but anyway. Thanks for the suggestions

pulsars

Pulsars do huge knockback when the shots expand, but not much (or any?) knockback at close range. If you were mainly a bomber, then you would be bombing whenever you had a lot of time and space. You would use the sidearm only when enemies were surrounding you, and in that situation pulsars aren't very helpful.

But upon re-reading your post, I now understand that you are not a bomber who wants a sidearm gun. Rather, you are a hybrid gunner-bomber, who wants to use one haze bomb and one gun. This changes things...

An elemental haze bomb paired with a non-elemental pulsar could work. But it's not great for a solo player, because neither one does much damage per monster. Monsters stay alive for a long time and thus have many chances to hurt you. And probably the game gets kind of boring.

I'd recommend either a damage-oriented bomb (DBB, DR, or Nitro, as I mentioned above) or a gun. The charge-oriented guns are alchemers (which you don't like), autoguns (risky), and magnuses (less risky). The regular-shot-oriented guns are alchemers (which you don't like), blasters (okay but boring) and antiguas (okay and very boring). Then there are catalyzers and tortofists, which I don't recommend for your main gun. Pulsars are more about crowd control than damage.

In summary, if you're planning to get only one gun to pair with AoA or VT, then I recommend Iron Slug. The charge attacks are powerful and fun. The regular attacks are weak but fun. The normal damage works on every monster. Stun is helpful.
