Thanks for the feedback! All the knights only have one weapon, so you get to choose what that class is. (Bomb, sword or gun.) And you cannot get a 5* weapon if you are only 1*, and same goes for hired knights. And I was thinking all rented weapons would do normal damage, and anyone who is willing to do a pixel art, that would be welcome!
But, thanks for feedback! I was not fully expecting a yes!!! So this makes me happy! (-:
Hired knights and Rented weapons
The knights would act like normal rescued NPCs.
Normal rescued NPCs are unkillable.
If "killed" they just sit down, then get back up later and continue fighting.
I easily completed the third floor of "The Great Escape" without attacking once - The knights did everything for me.
These should be killed permanently (well, lets say they just return to Haven after dying), or be able to get up only once (emergency revive). Otherwise players could do just that, and win without really doing anything

To "revive" them you have to kill an enemy near them. This does include lesser things, such as a howlitzer head.
I will say though that under the current system, these sort of things wouldn't be so OP that could just hire them and sit back. You'd have to pay a fair amount to get 2 5* knights to help you through vanaduke, and if they both go down at any point you'll have to stop dodging and attack enemies to revive them.
It's not a bad idea, but the NPCs are not designed to be in every level. They would get stuck, fall down, and not help the party. Better to have a full party of 4 than to spend money on an NPC knight.
In Haven, you can ask other knights to help you with a mission. Many knights of higher ranks like to do missions again and will help you.
There will always be other knights of your own rank who need to do missions. Try joining one instead of starting one.
Bottom line is that a party of 4 is free and effective, and a party of 1 + 3 hired knights is going to be ineffective and expensive, and you likely won't make back the money you spend on them except for very early on.
OK. But what if no one wants to join? I still think you should be able to hire knights and weapons.
Trymal
Would be interesting.
As a Side note the weapons should be of the Cutter, Antigua, and DBB lines or of that sort. Knockback should be negligible so that hired knights won't knock enemies into allies. All of them should be normal damage though to maximize effectiveness.
