more damage or a stronger shield?

Hello, just wanted some thoughts on is getting a Barbarous Thorn Shield for it's damage boost is worth it even though it's defenses are not as great alternatives or is it better to get shield that is stronger in terms of defense (like a Crest of Almire) in exchange for less damage?
*(in case it helps I mostly use the brandish swords series)

On my first shieldless run, I learned the importance of shield cancelling the hard way.

The best defense is a good offense.
You can use SSB if you want, but if you actually like using a shield as a shield, then go for the BTB.

Yes, you want Barbarous Thorn Shield. Expert players value offense so much more than defense that they even use Swiftstrike Buckler.
