I know you guys have been throwing chairs and saying that SK through Steam on Mac is working again, but it's not for me. It doesn't open at all. Is anyone else on Mac playing SK through Steam having this issue. If so, how did you fix it? Or is it something that can only be mended on GH's end.

Is there anything interesting in /Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Spiral Knights/Spiral Knights.app/Contents/Resources/Java/launcher.log??
Or is it not even getting that far, maybe steam is having trouble launching it?
Is there anything in the files in ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/logs ??

SK Steam on Mac Launch Issues
Having the same issue with Tidysnacker. The recent update didn't really fix the problem at all. The SK icon briefly shows at the dock then disappears without running the game. Have reinstalled java, steam, and SK to no avail. I hope this gets fixed soon.
EDIT: Launched SK through the steam directory but it does not allow me to log in using my steam account. I think the base game works by itself but it just doesn't allow me to connect through my steam account.

I reinstalled SK and it still
I reinstalled SK and it still does not work. When I try to go into Library then Application Support, Steam is not in the Application Support folder. Maybe that's the problem?

Confirmation of this Problem
I also have the same issue; like Vincesanity said, the SK icon briefly shows at the dock and then disappears. Similarly, while I can't seem to successfully launch the game through Steam, I can launch the game by opening the client directly, without using Steam. However, since there is no option to log in with a Steam account that way, there is still a problem.
There doesn't seem to be anything interesting in the log files that Gyre-Of-Guile suggested, but then again, I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for.
The crash reports that the OS itself produces suggest that a process called "jspawnhelper" triggers an "EXC_GUARD" exception, causing the game to crash immediately after launching. Not sure if that helps with understanding the problem, though.
Another point is that this bug started to affect me yesterday, even though I had been able to successfully launch the game two days ago.
I sent an email to SK Support, too. Hope this gets fixed soon.

Two things to try, please.
Open a Terminal window (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal)
1. In that window paste the following command:
cat ~/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Spiral\ Knights/Spiral\ Knights.app/Contents/Resources/Java/launcher.log
(It's all one line, there is a \ before each space, it might be line-breaking it here. God help us all.)
2. Also, longshot, try pasting this command:
chmod a+x ~/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Spiral\ Knights/Spiral\ Knights.app/Contents/Resources/Java/java_vm/lib/jspawnhelper

Just launched it with my own
Just launched it with my own JVM, that seemed to work. I'll still paste the logs though just so you can fix it for some other people hopefully. Also, that "open with JMV" thing works but my SK icon does not. How do I get the icon to work or get an icon that opens SK with JVM?

Did a quick look over all of it and the only real identifying information in that log you have to worry about is your operating system.
If there was anything of the sort, whenever a staff members walks on past again I'm sure they could just edit it out.
But that's great news if the game is working again for you! Hopefully the other users will report back if the new option is letting them run the game again. :)

Thanks tidy, but that launcher.log is from when you used your own JDK, so it doesn't help me.
I tried to figure out how to make your Desktop Icon launch the game with "your own JVM" but there's no way with steam. You could probably link to the run.sh script somehow.
For now I am still focused on making the main launch method work for everyone. If I can fix that, then the icon would work for everyone too.

Encountered new issue
I have tried entering the commands in the terminal as said from the previous posts and it showed a new option in steam to launch via "Your own JVM" since it was the only option worth trying since the other option of "Play Spiral Knights" doesn't seem to work still.
However, using "Your own JVM" launches the game albeit it only plays the background music of the log in screen and only shows a blank screen with my desktop wallpaper. I can confirm that the game is running as I press the escape button and I can hear the menu pop up however you just can't see the actual game window. Tried switching between 1.6 and 1.8 versions of java to see if it's worth trying and it still didn't work.

I seem to recall things about how fullscreen SK can be problematic on a Mac via other users in the past. Could that potentially be the issue? You can try clicking around on other applications and see if it lets you or if you're locked into a fake fullscreen Spiral Knights.
If it is some sort of fullscreen issue, you could try adding a "-windowed" or "-window" argument into your launch options on Steam to see if that does anything.
Granted it may be something else entirely, but it's worth a shot.

I don't think it will react to -window or -windowed, but there is a way to reset the video that's more complicated...
Run the following command in a terminal to reset your video:
touch ~/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Spiral\ Knights/Spiral\ Knights.app/Contents/Resources/Java/resetvideo.now

improved but not working
I just found this while looking through the Forums and am also having the same problem. But after I launched with my own JVM after you made the tweaks I saw the Spiral Knights Patch Downloading screen but a few seconds later it closed again. At least it opened though. The sad thing is I've been having this problem for almost a month now. It originally started on the 18th. Please find a way to fix it fully.

While I went into the local files for the Steam version of SK I saw that instead of the normal folders and files there was only the run.sh and the website downloaded version of SK. When I opened it, it just went to the loading screen but there was no sign in with steam option. Just thought it was something worth noting.

The projectx.log is still the same in my post above. Just thought that it might be useful for you to have both the normal launch and the JVM.
Sorry for the post above just ignore it except for the projectx.log, that's still the same and you can look at it.

problem duplicated
I have been able to duplicate the problem. It may only affect 10.10.x and older.
I don't have a fix yet, but hopefully I can figure it out...

So will you be able to fix it Gyre? I really hope that the problem is the version of my Mac then, I've been Spiral Knights deprived for almost a month. Hopefully you will be able to fix it too.

As best I can figure out, it's some sort of interaction between the game, steam, and older mac os.
As far as I know, if you are having this problem, you could just update to the latest macOS and be fixed, right?
It is only broken for me on older macOS. I have been trying things all day. I can run the game, and I can try various ways to run it from within steam, but they will all crash and burn after the updater runs. I will have to keep trying tomorrow.

Well, isolated may be a better word for it.
From the logs posted, it looks to be a Yosemite (10.10.x) thing for certain. Is the issue Yosemite exclusive or does it appear to be affecting Mavericks and earlier as well?
If unknown I think I have access to a Mavericks (10.9) computer I could try to get into and see if the same issue persists on over there. Would that be of help in any way? More data to work with and all that...

I updated my Mac to Sierra, which is 10.12.3, and Spiral Knights works! I'm so happy and can finally get back to playing! Just as the Kats come back as well, even better timing and added happiness. Finally the wait is over and the fun times shall be had!

Have you uninstalled and done a full reinstall of the client?
