I don't know if I asked this before, but seriously, how long will it take for SK to come out with content? [RANT]

*Purpose of this thread is just me ranting and me confused about the current state of the game*

There's plenty of discussions about this, but I just don't really understand. This game has ran on its feet for 10+ years and the fact that ex-Three Rings employees are still on this game, what is taking them so long to communicate and fix the game?

This game is seriously in development hell and the only way I think SK would succeed in terms of reaching more players is if it were to be funded by support by the community (like a GoFundMe), sell it to another big game corporation, or just in general have the community that have specific knowledge, experience, and commitment to add new things into the game?

I mean I haven't seen SK advertise on huge platforms? Why? I don't know. Just look at games like League of Legends, Fortnite, Forza, Call of Duty, Valorant, and other games? They've advertised and updated their games to their audiences. They've used Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, or even TikTok to grab people's attention?

Who is behind all of the hold up for the game? Where is our answers?

"Grey Havens operates games created by Three Rings Design back in the glorious first decade of the new millenium. Rather than allow those games to disappear forever, we have assembled a doughty crew to keep them operational for as long as we can."

The games in question are:

Puzzle Pirates
Spiral Knights
Please enjoy these fine electronic entertainments.

-- The Grey Havens Crew

How can you fund a domain and website and not do anything with it? How many screams will it take for people to actually take action in changing the game?

I just don't understand honestly, lmfao, there's nothing new, changing, or fun about SK? Challenges, 1v1's, LD, recreation ideas, weapon demo/testing and other "redo this ideas" just aren't fun anymore. It's time to update Grey Havens.

Because they don't care.

SK hasn't had full time developers in over a year, maybe 2.

Their position has always been that they'll do what they want and don't need or want community help.

Maybe they feel they're still getting an acceptable amount of profit on this game without having to do much, but they seem happy to let things continue as they are.

:/

Why would they advertise when milking the existing whales are simply cheaper and better?

But in all seriousness, the only way I can see we, the players wrestle the control of SK away from GH's hand is through a massive boycott of the whales, forcing GH to come to the bargaining table, or give up on the IP and give it to the players to recoup the losses. But that unfortunately will never happen. Some people have way too much investment in the game to give it up. So it is a slow and painful death for SK from this point onward.

whales?

If we had whales in this game, the game would've been profitable. No way we have whales that spend $10k a month on this game.

I define whales as game addicts who pay to win to get the satisfaction, and I'm talking in 5 figures range.

If we did have whales, I can tell you this game would do highly good like no other MMO.

p2w

I support p2w, whales, and whatever close to them, but I just want to know if we do have whales, where is all that money going?

I know it's not for advertising, updating the game, bugs, content, or anything relevant to SK.

Game's in "maintainence mode." It exists as an archive, moreso than an ongoing project. We all know that new content infusions are required for growing/maintaining an MMO playerbase but that's not the point of Grey Havens. They're just here to keep the lights on - and to be honest, that's OK.

We'd all love to see SK grow and flourish, and there are many great potential ideas in that regard, but let's be real for the second. The game's over a decade old. Most of the founding team have moved on. Content development requires programmers, resources, money - things not available in sufficient supply for this project. Where would you find the investors? How would you recruit and pay the programmers?

We're just enjoying a sliver of time from bygone years. A window through time into what once was. Enjoy it if you wish.

I personally quit out several years ago (transfered all wealth/assets to my younger siblings. Nothing left on my account but my old favorite costume and my little Tabby sprite). They're still young, and despite everything, they still seem to love playing every now and then. But for me? I've seen everything there is to see. Done everything there is to do. Eventually, the only option is to retire and move on.

And, sometimes, that's OK.

The lights are still on. Play around and have some fun, if you wish. But if the world feels played out for you, then it's time to explore new horizons. Many worlds out there.

wise

I guess you're correct. I can't expect more or less from the game other than preservation. They made it clear from the start, but it's just potential waste that a game like this can't be funded or sold anymore. Can't think of any popping MMO, but I also can tell SK would've had a huge potential had it listened to its supporters. Till this day I never finished the game since 2011, but I'll try to make the best of it as I can.

oh well

It is what it is.

What if?

If this game had a crazy amount of players like Team Fortress 2, do you all think the devs would notice, unlike Valve for their game?

Boycott will not help.

GH will never add anything.
The seasonal box gambling will continue until interest eventually dies out and then server will go down. There will never be any new content regardless of how well or poorly the server's activity goes. So, a boycott will only end the game, not add new content.

Could fans perhaps make a separate client with an expansion pack that contains sandbox style missions?
The caveat being that you obviously don't make crowns there, that you can add to your actual SK account.

How difficult would that be to setup? Perhaps it can be singleplayer initially.
