Swiftstrike doesn't feel too swift

Maybe my expectations were a bit off, but I got a swiftstrike buckler the other day A: because I wanted a 3* shield just in case I want to do a "kill boss X with 3* gear" run, and B: because a high ASI seemed like it would be fun.

But, all in all, I'm not really feeling like my attacks are all that much faster. Tried it with my Faust, Voltedge, Dark Thorn Blade, and gigawatt pulsar and none of them seemed to feel much different.

So, am I missing something? The way people talked about running Vog + Swiftstrike in T3 because of the awesome ASI made me think it would be a more noticeable difference.

It's still a half-decent shield on its own so I'm not exactly regretting picking it up, though a Scarlet shield or Surge Breaker (hello IMF) might have served me better in hindsight.

Thoughts?

I suppose it comes down to

I suppose it comes down to the precision of a player's perception. Lag, fps, and other 'time-affecting' factors may muddle the difference as well.

Try the slash -> shield cancel -> slash test to see if you really find it valuable. A great ASI turns a Flourish into a whipping heavy sword.

The reason why I crafted a Swiftstrike, ditched it, crafted it again, and ditched it again is because I want a speed boost but didn't find it to make too much of a difference. Although I did find my Ascended Calibur (a bit with other swords but it isn't that noticeable) a lot faster (reason for that is it has UV ASI low so the combined ASI would be very high). I am planning to craft it again once I get one piece of Vog Cub to see if Vog Cub will make this shield more useful.

If you have a certain weapon

If you have a certain weapon vs monster match up where you sometimes get hit sometimes while doing a combo that, when you do it just right, you dont, then adding asi will make your success rate much higher. Being more careful will work too.

It's really a shield with a very specialized purpose, and it most cases you're better off with a proper shield. The boost from the ASI really isn't big enough that you should be using instead of a proper shield. And if you're a sword user, the Barbarous Thorn Shield is almost always a better choice. I think you'd have a better argument in using it for a player who specializes primarily in guns..

@Zealousd I've heard worse

@Zealousd I've heard worse things about gun ASI, and given that bombs don't have a regular attack that only leaves swords to benefit from it.

I'm gonna spend a few days heating it up at least, then see if I feel slow and sluggish when I switch it back out.

@Nicoya

The shield itsself though having a hi asi bonus is only 50% of ASI attainable. ( I know you know this, primarily for other readers ).

From a shootists point of view, when I first equipped this screaming red racecar of a shield with my Nameless hat and sunset duster finally giving me ASI Maximum! I remember I felt fluid and deadly, simaler to how Neo must have felt in *The Matrix* when he finally gets stoked up enough to give Agent Smith a hard time.

Edit- I kind of had the feeling ASI was effecting "waddling" speed ( i.e during reloads & shooting while moving ) last night. Im going to look into it tonite further and see if theres any truth to it.
