there is the Scarlet Shield but that is a random drop, its 3* and can go no further star wise, think il skip it.

Royal Jelly has the highest piercing resistance of all shields. It also has stun resistance which is useful. There is no reason not to take Royal Jelly over BTS if you aren't a swordsman unless you want to mash together your gremlin shield with your pierce def shield by making an Ironmight which isn't as good on those pure pierce attacks which are basically the only ones that really hurt...
So RJS is awesome even if it has sleep. That sleep will come in handy on slooms once they return. Then RJS will be the best piercing shield by far defense-wise >:)

Hipster?
Royal Jelly Shield, like Rawrcake pointed out, protects the player from piercing attacks better than the Barbarous Thorn Shield and Ironmight Plate Shield.
It's arguably the best piercing shield for bombers and gunners.

Heater Shield, Scarlet Shield, Dragon Scale Shield, and Omega Shell are all pretty hipster though. There's no reason to use those over any other shield.

I actually saw several people using Dragon Scale Shield, either because they were mislead (you often saw people asking about it on forums) or for the very cool look. So it's a no for hipster shield.
