I can load this game just fine on my laptop, however, my main desktop will not load it at all, despite the desktop being more powerful than the laptop. I get the GUI overlay, but the rest of the screen is black, and this is the Ready Room only. As soon as I return to Haven, it never loads all the way. What is going on?
March 1st Patch Broke Loading
I tried everything from the other threads. I have updated drivers, I have reinstalled, I have checked the registry...nothing. Again, my laptop works fine with this, and I am not sure what the issue could be. Windows would not be using its own drivers, as I did not have this issue 2 days ago before the March 1st patch. It can not be a nvidia card, or else a lot more people would be complaining here...I am at a loss as to what to do.
Again, the GUI will load, and I can mess with settings, but the rest of it is black. If I try to load Haven, it will not finish loading.
I tried loading up a mission from the ready room, and it took me to the mission room, and the room loaded, but my character did not.
I can move my character around the mission room, but I can not see it, and the camera perspective does not change.
Could you try installing and using Google Earth? It uses the same rendering engine as Spiral Knights (OpenGL), so if that doesn't work, we'll know it's a graphics card problem and not a Spiral Knights problem.
As always, google Earth is fine. I know my graphics card is alright, use it to play a variety of games that all still work.
Grr, this is a hard one.
It isn't hardware issue if nothing else is broken.
It isn't a driver issue if a variety of other games work.
It isn't an OpenGL compatibility issue if Google Earth works.
It isn't a registry issue if the GUI loads consistently.
I doubt it's a bad install if you just installed it.
I doubt Nivida software comes with anything except compatibility mode as its default.
Unless your computer has both an integrated GPU and dedicated GPU, it isn't a graphics card swapping problem.
Unless I've missed something, I'm out of ideas. Sorry. :/
Guess it is just my laptop for now. This is lame. It worked just three days ago.
I have the exact same problem - down to the black Ready Room and incomplete loading. Oddly enough, it only seems to happen when I'm loading the Steam version of Spiral Knights; the default Spiral Knights client works perfectly fine for me. Does that apply for you too?
Could you copy your projectx.log file here after you get stuck? If there is a loading error it may show it. I have a hunch that your game did not patch properly on your desktop.
(The log will be found in the folder you installed Spiral Knights to.)

Same thing is happening to me. It just started last night when I logged off and tried to log into an alt account. Now the same thing is happening on my main account too.
I've tried rebooting and redownloading the program. Still cannot play. I just get the Ready Room with no graphics.
I want to know what is going on, and most especially why this is not happening on my laptop. If this was my only computer, I would be even more peeved. I know the game itself is not being compatible with my computer, but I have no idea other than that.
This game is still broken on my main computer. Anyone yet?
are you on multi monitor setup?
I used to have the 8800 gt card, and it would not show anything for SK on my sub monitor.
Sk could only be displayed on my main monitor.
That setup of mine is now gone so this is all i can help you with.
Hoping there are some solutions to this. I see other people on this forum have the issue, so it is not just me!
I post, because someday, someone will have the answer on how to fix this.
Based on that snippet from your projectx.log it appears that part of one of the JAR files for SK may have not patched properly. If you have not done so already, please try uninstalling and then reinstalling Spiral Knights. If you are a Steam user please make sure the Spiral Knights folder is completely empty after using the "Delete local content" option. None of your in-game progress will be affected.
Thank you. I waited forever for a good solution like this. Everyone else mentioned the reinstall bit, yet no one else mentioned the deleting of the folder. Anyway, thanks again!
Usually you delete everything before you reinstall....
Usually uninstalls delete everything for you, so I am used to a bias is all.
Did you update your graphics card drivers? This sounds like a case of Windows using its own drivers. Otherwise, it could be a bad install of Spiral Knights.
