I've been thinking and, wouldn't it be good to have an easier way to upgrade weapons? i mean, me and my friends love spiral knights, and i was the only one who knew how to upgrade weapons. I was thinking there could be someone in the bazaar behind a desk tinkering with a bunch of gadgets, and your knight could go over and talk to him, and he'll upgrade a weapon of you're choice.(for a cost, of course!) post if you like my idea or not.

So instead of using the good old alchemy machine, you want an actual NPC to do the job.
it's exactly the same thing, but with one problem: machines are small so they can fit everywhere. A desk, a guy and other tiny details will waste space, meaning we may have to adjust every map.

There's no use for it. It's nothing new. Demands extra work for no gain.
And the "it's coller than a boxy machine" argument is a matter of taste, too subjective.
