I was thinking of becoming a gunslinger but im not sure on what gear to take.
I was thinking of a mix with sunset slicker/nameless hero with a polaris, alchemer and something fro the antigua line.
Any suggestions?

If you have access to the expansion pack, the seerus mask is definitely worth considering. you could buy on the AH, but I imagine they would be very expensive. It has nice status resists along with med gun CTR and low gun ASI bonuses. If you wear a swiftstrike buckler you'll have VH ASI and with lvl 10 guns VH CTR. Once you have the resources, 2 true shot modules would probably be the best choice for trinkets, granting VH damage to everything. your last piece of armour would depend on whether you want max ASI (with either nameless or justifier) or damage (with shadowsun). Personally i would go with the shadowsun as there is no UV that grants a damage bonus against all monster types. You could try and get med CTR and/or med ASI UVs on your guns to max out everything.
As for the guns themselves your gonna have to do some research and experimenting to find out what you like. I can't tell you what to use because I dont know your playstyle, but I can tell you my experiences with some of the guns. Blitz Needle is great for FSC because the charge usually oneshots trojans and it does the most DPS on Vana. plague needle works much the same but is slightly weaker and has a chance to poison. better in a party with at least one other Blitzer. outside of FSC though, it will take lots and lots of practice to reliably take down fiends and beasts. for general use Callahan might be better.
For a gunner, I wouldn't recommend polaris as a main weapon. use it as a turret destroyer or if enemies happen to be stuck in a vortex or have backed themselves into a corner or something. spamming it will only serve to piss off your party. I've never used the antigua series outside of T2 LD so I wont comment on it. Of the elemental alchemers, Nova Driver is probably the most versatile and (I think) has the highest DPS. Magma Driver is very very fun to use but if you intend on running FSC a lot i wouldn't get it. the fire status brings it pretty close to (and in some cases might overtake) nova in terms of damage but in FSC its obviously never gonna inflict status. Storm Driver is the best choice for pvp, and would be pretty good for FSC but i think nova would still outperform it. Hail Driver takes a lot of practice to get good with, you can't just spam it other wise you'll break the freeze. the ricochets will probably break the freeze anyway no matter how careful you are, and even if they don't your party probably will, so for those reasons, I wouldnt bother with it.
out of the 3 shadow guns, Biohazard is the only one I've used. It's fun and quirky, and very satisfying to load up charges and blow the bajeebus out of things but it takes practice and your party will probably kill tings before you have a chance to detonate anyway. Sentenza might be the best option given that gremlins are typically hard to hit with guns (or at least they used to be, maybe not so much any more).
Hope I managed to help you somewhat, I'm mostly a bomber so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I have experimented with lots of weapons and playstyles.
I usually take my Divine Avenger with me or my Barberous Thorn Blade, for guns I only have one 5*(blitz) the other are 4*.
Also I have a toxic cataylzer but im thinking of selling that and getting myself a sentaza.
Good enough?
No, that's not good enough for us to understand your setup.
How many weapon slots do you use? You still haven't said.
You have Blitz Needle. Great. Then you have other guns that are 4-star. Which ones? Throw us a bone here.
Ok i might as well write down my arsenal with my swords, guns, bombs and shields.(Right now I only have a gunslinger sash and hat,3*):
Swords:
Divine avenger
Barberous thorn blade
Leviathan blade
Boltbrand
Faust
Kamarin
Guns:
Blitz needle
Cryo driver
Gigawatt pulsar
Silversix
Antigua
Toxic catalyzer(thinking of selling for 1kce)
Bombs:
Freezing atomizer
Spine cone
Static capacitor
Shields:
Grey owlite shield
Blackend crest
Mighty defender
Thats all!(I have other armors and helms like a vog set yet didnt mention them as they wont need to be for a gunslinger page.Vog is my only 5* armour and helms)
Post #1: "How many weapon slots will you use? Three?"
Post #4: "How many weapon slots do you use? You still haven't said."
For the love of God, will you please tell us how many weapon slots you use?
You see, there are no "character classes" in Spiral Knights (like how there are clerics, thieves, paladins, etc. in other RPGs). In Spiral Knights, the closest thing you have to a character class is the mix of weapons that you use. Until you tell us what mix you want --- for example, "I expect to use three slots, for two guns and one sword" --- I have no idea how you should equip.
@Bopp He NORMALLY uses 3 i know: Im his friend
Anyway back to topic
There is no BEST gunslinger sets
Preferably you'd want shadowsun set for FSC and/or Deadshot if you want the low ASI added to med undead(yeah Deadshot has ASI low)
Shadowsun has poison resistance which is good for shadow snarby but not so useful much else and Deadshot has Curse resistance for UFSC runs and that GF i know ur workin on......
BOTH OF THOSE HAVE SHADOW RESISTANCES
Justifier has normal, piercing and stun resistance which makes it optimal for JK and mix it with nameless(normal, elem and freeze)gives you perfect resistace and status for IQ
Now boss related armour and helm(shield up to you)
Snarb-Justifier all the way!!!!
JK-Justifier set BUT you could swich one out for nameless for the pesky pups and lumbers
RT-Nameless all the way
FSC-Shadowsun-deadshot mix or both
2snarb-Justifier and deadshot/shadowsun
IQ-Justifier,Nameless mix
RRT-Justifier,Nameless (go full nameless or mix of both plenty of oiler and quicksilver
UFSC-Deadshot set or mix of 1 deadshot and shodowsun
Dunno much bout wepons but here 3 wep slots
Snarb-Valiance,Callahan,polaris
JK-Polaris,umbra/senteza/Boihazard,valiance
RT-AP,Polaris,Umbra/senteza
FSC-Blitz/AP,Hail/storm driver,Valiance(if hail driver chosen switch val with ze polaris)
2snarb-AP,callahan,Hail driver
IQ-Magma driver,Umbra driver/senteza/biohazard,Polaris
RRT-Polaris,Hail Driver,AP
UFSC-Blitz/AP,Hail/storm driver,Valiance(if hail driver chosen switch val with ze polaris)
Also consider neutraliser, supernova and volcanic pepperbox.'oh wait i forgot iron sl-' never mind
Choose what you want now.
I may be completely wrong and do not wish to be abused if so(I am a bomber but this is my idea of guns)
¬ Sppw
CTR is good for auto guns and alchemers. ASI is good for auto guns and magnuses. DMG is good for everything. If you have one set, get shadow sun. If you have the expansion, however, get mask, as it is probably the best piece of armor in the game.
A general set would have one gun for each damage type. A set particular to a level would likely have two guns of different damage types and a utility weapon.
Bombs, pulsars and sometimes magnuses( for knockdown) and blasters( for knockback) I would consider utility weapons.
My "best" set without UV's would be: mask/shadowsun/swiftstrike, trueshot/focus, nova/umbra/callahan/blitz.
If you don't like alchemers( but understand why others use them), get antiguas. Callahan is optional, blitz is not.
If you're some kind of boss dodging gunner who never gets hit, get full Shadowsun, Swiftstrike and a med damage trinket.
If you're rich enough, get all the armours (except Deadshot; it's a bit TOO specialised to be useful), and a decent assortment of guns.
Justifier/Nameless will give piercing, normal and elemental defense. It's okay, but you could do with an option for shadow defense as well, so you will probably want to invest in Shadowsun. In addition, get trinkets to boost your damage/ASI. If you can afford it, a Mask of Seerus may be worthwhile if you like using Blitz Needle or Drivers; in addition, it gives Shock and Fire resistance (with minor penalty to Freeze and Poison).
About guns themselves:
Nova Driver for slag groups or clusters of constructs, an excellent gun if you've got the knack for internal ricochets.
Umbra Driver for wreaking merry havoc on large groups of slimes, can also be used on groups of gremlins although they tend to dodge.
Blitz/Plague Needle for Trolljans/Vanaduke; pretty specialist and needs some care to use, but deals a LOT of damage over time.
Polaris/Supernova for turret suppression. Whatever you do, please, for the love of god, do not wantonly spam either of these in a party. The flash is extremely distracting for anyone close-up to the enemy, not to mention it's possible to push a Lumber mid-way through its attack animation, right into someone's face.
Callahan for dealing with dodging enemies and knocking down soft-bodied enemies, cancelling their attack (gremlins, wolvers, devilites and so forth).
AP/Sentenza are both excellent guns damage and manoeuvrability wise, with fast bullets and a large clip.
Status Drivers are okay, although I'm not a massive fan and prefer pure damage drivers instead, but it's your choice.
Biohazard/Neutraliser takes some setting up to use correctly; whilst the explosions are fun to play with, if you're in a team, the other players will probably kill everything before you activate the charges.
Valiance is also good at turret suppressing, with the same 'fling-your-enemies-everywhere' drawback as the Polaris/Supernova (although without the irritating flash effect).
Volcanic Pepperbox loses some of the damage of its piercing cousins in return for setting stuff on fire; not really a good gun to start with.
Iron Slug is another gun I wouldn't bother with, since its cousin the Callahan does the same if not a better job on all enemies that can be knocked down.
I can't think of any other 5* guns at the moment.
Have you read the Gunslinger Guide on the wiki? It's a good start.
How many weapon slots will you use? Three? Any swords or bombs, or just guns? If you're going to use three guns, then you want them to be piercing, elemental, and shadow, so that you can deal huge damage to any monster. The particular choices within each damage type depend on your desire for mobility, status, and regular vs. charge attacks. For a first pass, here is a list of all of your options:
* piercing: Blitz Needle, Plague Needle, Callahan
* elemental: Nova Driver, Storm Driver, Magma Driver, Hail Driver, Argent Peacemaker, Polaris
* shadow: Umbra Driver, Sentenza, Biohazard
