Why is it that the Blackened Crest shield was rare but eventually added to Brinks' token shop, but not Darkfang? They used to be equally difficult and rare to obtain. Now we can get the Blackened Crest with ease and the Darkfang for what? 1M CE if the person who found it will even sell it. Just put in in Brinks' token shop for about 40 Bark Modules.

No, absolutely not. Their value comes from their rarity. Also, t2 boss tokens should not give t3 rewards.
Darkfang almost copies Owlite. At least blackened is more unique.
It'd be useless, gameplay wise. Rarity is the only reason to keep it.
Add the Darkfang as a token item, but only after converting all existing Darkfangs to something super awesome (not stats-wise, necessarily) and obviously collectable. (Also, add the super awesome version as a rare drop, as rare as the existing Darkfang is now.) Then everyone can be happy.
Naturally, this would entail tweaking the DFS stats slightly--and giving it an upgrade path--to make it not just an Owlite.
Blackened Crest was a rare item? i mean, it is a monster gear but i didnt know it was a rare item once.

@Monocelha, Yes, but Snarbolax isn't a t2 boss, nor does it reward t3 items. Saying t2 bosses could do it just becaue Snarby does it is like saying you should also get a sword for doing Roarmy just because Snarby gives a sword.
Having a ridiculously hard to obtain shield is a cool thing to have in a game like this, I would be sad if it was lost in the sea of regular value items. And what about those people who bought them for a crazy amount of money?(If there are any) Or are proud of their Darkfang that they found? Since I am one of those people who's ultimate goal in this game is to obtain all pieces of equipment, having that challenge dangling in front of my face will keep me playing for a long time.
However, having a craftable 5* version of the Darkfang shield that has stats up to par with the other shields and a general damage bonus vs. construct would be nice. Of course you would still need a lvl 10 Darkfang shield to craft it, so it is as equally rare, just usable among other shields.
So yeah, -1 to adding it to Brinks.
@Marazo, No to an upgradeable Darkfang Shield. If it became on par, or even better, than current shields, it would need to be readily available to all players, not just a rare drop. That would be a move, similar to what they did with the Blackened Crest, and it would destroy the value.
If it was merely *on par* with other shields, why would it need to be readily available to all players?

Does anybody else remember Quicksilver Armor? It used to be 5*, iirc, and was a rare drop only from Quicksilvers. Which, back then, were not very common. It used to be a prestigious, rare thing to see. And that was not only changed to 3* but made available for only 15 Bark Modules. Doing something like this would not be a terribly evil thing, though it would suck a lot for the people who have hunted for so long. (Though, with that in mind, don't forget the people who shelled out millions of crowns for Quicksilver Mail back then, as well.)
Eh... you should let players explore, have fun, not rush and finish the game!
Games are meant to last, srsly, example: pac-man----not to popular, kinda boring nowa days.
Explore not only the normal bosses, the SL bosses, cmon guys, it's fun!
So don't rush in Spiral Knights, or you might get tired of grinding and just leave!
I thiiiiiiiiiiiink he's saying that someone is asking for a quick and easy DFS and is essentially rushing the game, rushing to get the good/rare stuff and not actually playing/enjoying it the legit way.
The Darkfang shield is that last item in the game that truly means anything to obtain. It's the only item that is truly priceless. If I honestly wanted anything else I could whip out a credit card, throw a thousand dollars at this game, and have anything I ever desired. Not quite the same with this shield.
If OOO makes a new boss that needs a couple token items, then for the love of god make some new gear to acquire and leave the Darkfang alone.

i heard frm the forums that it drop around vanaduke level and from the gremlins. can we at least know where and which monsters it drops from. i mean we know whwere we could get those super rare heart pendants, from love puppies. i mean the one u cant make. hehe. so where and who does dark fang shield drop from. i do mean positive fact.
i dont like wild goose chases. can it be obtained from all monsters or is there a certain area or family of monsters it can be obtained from?
like searching for a needle in a hay stack when the needle is under your pillow and not even in the haystack. how much do we need against us to find this dam shield which only value is as a rare item. arent rare items suppose to be rare and powerful. well no, but still boost the shield. its just a copy of owlite, just a different appearance.
i mean if i was gonna search for the holy grail, wouldnt search for it just cause its rare, i would search for it also because it give me eternal life. so if i search for the shield, does it give me what, the owlite copy, sheesh.

DFs don't drop from gremlins. They drop from boxes in gremlin strata. This has been known for ages--where've you two been?
i mean to boost the shields functionality, like being able to cancel out gremlin healer circels or to bea able to have a greater push back then any other shield. something that would make it unique not just some crappy owlit coppy. its rare isnt it, then why not make it not just rare, but also powerful. something valuable in combat. not crappy stat copies.

I'm torn between yes and no. I mean like you said the blackened crest used to be about the same rarity as the darkfang but was put into brinks but I also think no because it's one of the few remaining rares in the game. I'm leaning towards no because the Darkfang shield is only 3* and has no upgrades unlike the blackened crest which starts at 4* and has a 5* upgrade.

Better? Nope. It just has a bit more Normal defense, while sacrificing Elemental defense. If anything that's not as good, because it's no longer as specialized.
It has marginally less elemental defense while having a tiny bit more normal defense than the loss of elemental, according to the bars. Of course, the bars are notorious for lying and I doubt we'll have any way to actually test the defenses between the two, given how insignificant. When i said slight, I really meant it. But for all intents and purposes, they're pretty much identical.
And stupendously devalue the rarest item in the game? I think not.
It doesn't even go all that well with IMF, belonging to a higher tier of Gremlin. It's an item in the game reserved to be a token item (or something similar) for a future T3 Gremlin boss.
