Hey guys,

I think that in addition to the colosseum options that Spiral Knights already has, there should be a "Team Death Match" and a "Capture the Flag" mode. Although Lock Down mode is fun, I feel like these game types would add a little bit more pizang to Spiral, and overall would make the game more appealing to new players. Moreover, it wouldn't take a lot of effort to design these game types, at least I don't think it would...

I'll just mention 'search bar', because I'm feeling really drained today.

As for the ideas themselves, Team Deathmatch is pretty much what has become of LD; A big, egoistic mess. I;m not wholly against it, but I don't recommend it.

Capture the Flag would be really, really hard to balance correctly. In terms of movement speeds anyway. Aside from MSI's, we all move pretty much the same. I can't think of any good way to balance it correctly to allow even chances of escape and/or death without causing mass-frustration to the players.

Idk, I can't think of anything really doable to make this work. Never have.

LD classes with CTF could work. Send recons to get behind enemy lines to get to the flag->have them pass it off to strikers to run it back/send strikers to get and bring back, with guardians keeping the other team occupied. It might work, but would we be able to shield/use abilities with the flag?

As for TDM, just play LD and don't worry about capping. It's the same thing.

Capture the flag, maybe. Objectives keep people busy.

But deathmatchs lead to cheap tactics.
Considering the nature of LD maps, where we need protected bases tochange gear and class, I imagine that in TDM we'd kill a single oponent then hide the rest of the match and win by 1 point :P

I see your guys' point about there being some foreseeable problems with these game types, specifically a Team Death Match game type*. Here's what I was thinking in terms of a Team Death Match game type: Each team would have a combined total of 25 lives, and obviously each time a team member dies , that counter would be reduced by 1. There'd be no time limit, so as to prevent people from camping. All the armor abilities would stay the same. I think the rest of the logistics could be worked out by OOO if they were ever to decided to implement this game type, but feel free to post any other problems you guys see with having a Team Death Match game type.

*I don't think saying that LD is already, in most senses, a Team Death Match mode is a good enough reason not to have a separate Team Death Match mode. I mean, think about it...If there were a Team Death Match mode, then people who only want to use LD for the pvp-combat aspect would move to the Team Death match mode, and people who care about actually capturing would be much happier playing LD--seeing as their opponents and allies would be focused on the same goal.
